Chapter One
This is my second fanfiction. If you have no idea who I am or why I even bother writing for you guys, just roll with it. BTW, check out my other fanfic, Percy Jackson Meets the Electroclan, now called Shockwave, which is complete, and my other two fan fictions, which are just getting started. At this point, you may stop reading the bold and skip to the story.
Percy's POV
Woo! Just saved the world! Who's awesome? We are! No casualties... um except Leo. But something in my gut says he's not dead. When you're a demigod, you learn to listen to your gut. Well, unless you're me. I don't learn unless a monster teaches it to me the hard way. So it's a good thing you're not Percy Jackson! Hm. Getting a little off topic...
I'm just walking with my awesome girlfriend on the beach. No big deal. Play it cool, Perce.
"So Annabeth," I look at her expectantly.
"Yeah, Seaweed Brain?" She doesn't even look at me from her place on my shoulder. How rude.
"We just came back from a war," I trail off again. Finally, she stares at me.
"And?" You know, most boyfriends would hate it if their girlfriend was as sassy as this, but me being Persassy, the epicest, most sassiest person in the world, she's still not as sassy as me. So I don't care. Deal with it.
"Well," I smile at her slyly, "Remember when you said, 'Come back alive, Seaweed Brain. Then we'll see.' I believe you owe me a kiss."
"That was a year ago, Seaweed Brain." Annabeth laughed. Man, I loved that laugh.
I shoot her my best baby seal face, "So you're not gonna do it?"
Annabeth put her hands in my hair and behind my head, "Now, Perce, I think we can do better than that."
Her lips crashed into mine. Let me tell you, it was like Elysium. Too bad for you losers, you'll never get to experience it. Well, the Annabeth part, not the Elysium one. Soon, we were just making out on the beach. Who cares? We just took out an evil earth primordial. We should at least get a little free time.
Eventually, Annabeth pulled away. I pouted at her. She just smirked. A- Wha- How? Did she just resist my baby seal face? Gods, I gotta tell Piper and Jason. Whoo. Starting to hyperventilate here.
"We should get going, Perce. The harpies won't care if we recently saved the world. They'll shred us anyway." Annabeth said matter-of-factly, like getting killed by your camp security was normal. Now that I think about it, it kind of is.
"Fine," I pulled her up to her feet. She looked a little too triumphant. I've got the perfect solution.
I slung her over my shoulder and ran as fast as I could, ignoring her death threats. "Perseus Jackson, I swear to the gods if you don't put me down, I will send you to Hades the hard way!"
That was not a threat I take lightly. It didn't matter, we were at the Athena cabin, anyway. Annabeth dropped lightly to her feet on the steps of her cabin. "'Night, Seaweed Brain." I kissed her goodnight and went to my cabin.
I was so exhausted, I didn't even care that I was still in my ripped jeans and camp t-shirt. I flopped down onto my bed and slept a dreamless sleep.
Ha! Yeah right. How many of you believed that? None? Well, that's depressing.
I was in Tartarus. That place had no blue cookies. I can't even imagine it. It's TERRIFYING!
Tartarus was standing in front of me and Annabeth. My sword clattered out of my hand. Again?!?! If we ever get out of here, Annabeth will never let me live that down.
I stared at the swirling figure in front of me. Why couldn't I ever just see a nice little bunny rabbit? Or be with Annabeth in a not life or death situation? Jeez.
I blinked and suddenly, Annabeth was hanging by the throat in his hands. Okay, I am officially freaking out. "NO! LET HER GO!" I screamed, "KILL ME! JUST DON'T HURT HER!"
Tartarus just sneered and slowly squeezed her neck until it snapped. I wanted to look away. I tried. It was just too painful. But something was holding me back.
I couldn't turn my head, couldn't close my eyes. It felt like my heart was ripped out of my chest and boiled in flaming hot lava. Tartarus opened his mouth, and I was sucked into the void.
I didn't care. Send me to the Underworld. Just let me be with Annabeth. But something told me that I couldn't go to Hades in Tartarus. My soul would stay here forever, and without her.
I was startled awake. My fists were still swinging and I struck someone in the jaw. My eyes shot open and the light blinded me. When my vision cleared, Annabeth, Piper, and Hazel were in tears, while Nico, Jason, and Frank were trying not to freak out.
Jason was rubbing his face, where a bruise was already starting to cover the majority of the right side of his jaw.
I sat up, shaking off some of my cold sweat. I grimaced sheepishly, "Sorry, man."
Jason smiled, "S'ok."
Annabeth cleared her throat, "Could you give us some time alone?"
Everyone shuffled out of my room, clearly shaken up. Annabeth looked at me, still crying, "What were you dreaming about, Percy?"
I told her everything, except the part about me not going to the Underworld. That would just freak her out more.
She looked even worse now than she did then, "I'm sorry," she crooned, stroking my hair, "How come I'm not getting nightmares when we went through the same thing?"
"Wait, you're not getting nightmares?"
She shook her head, "I did, and I still am, but I'm not screaming or thrashing, or anything. I just wake up scared and sweaty."
I shook my head, "I'm fine now. Let's just go get breakfast."
Hola me llamo time skip. I am here to transport you to breakfast. Have some pancakes, some blue pancakes.
I sat alone at the Poseidon table. Me and Annabeth kept making eye contact. I wish Tyson were here. Everyone else has siblings, even Jason, and Nico, the other children of the Big Three. And they're not half monster.
All of the Olympians flashed into the Dining Pavilion. I sighed. I guess I was just feeling trashy today.
Zeus, aka Mr. Drama Queen, said in a thundering voice, "We will be bringing the following heroes to Olympus to thank them for their service. Any other demigod is to remain here and do whatever Chiron requests of them."
He looked around grimly, not seeing any faces in awe. He grunted and snapped his fingers. I felt myself teleporting to Olympus. Such a Drama Queen.
I see that rest of the seven, Nico, Thalia, and Reyna kneeling on the floor. They look around in awe. Well, except Annabeth. My girlfriend is the Architect of Olympus. Annabeth's just great at this stuff. Finally getting to accomplish her dream. Building something permanent.
The gods are sitting on their thrones, smiling down at us like we're little puppies begging for treats. I know I'm cute, but puppies sure as Hades aren't as cute as me.
"Reyna Avila Ramirez Arellano!" Bellona called. Cool, some of the Roman gods are here. "For your service in bringing back the Athena Parthenos, the gods have decided to grant you partial immortality, so you can fairly lead the legion of New Rome as praetor."
Reyna stiffly nodded her head. Romans were way too stuffy. Greeks literally had their war council around a ping pong table eating cheese whiz. Nothing like cheese whiz and crackers to get you strategizing.
The gods shot Reyna with purple beams of light. Her eyes rolled up in her head and she collapsed into the arms of a nymph already stationed behind her.
"Nico Di Angelo!" Hades shouted, "For your assistance in delivering the Athena Parthenos, you are named the Ghost King and will continue to serve as an ambassador between the two camps."
Nico gave the gods of a ghost of a smile and knelt back down.
Hades's image flickered for a second and Pluto stood before us. Can't say I like this version better. I'd be lying.
"Hazel Levesque," Pluto said calmly. Seriously, I don't like this guy. But his eyes shown with pride for her and I bet that I looked the same way. She was like a little sister.
"For your heroics, I am proud to say that you will be made a god. A minor one, the god of jewels, and your curse will be lifted while your powers remain. Do you accept?"
Hazel looked so stunned, it was funny. On her first attempt to speak, her voice was nothing but a squeak. Frank took her hand and she cleared her throat, "I accept."
Aphrodite squealed, "Frazel! You guys are so cute!"
Frank and Hazel turned beet red and looked down.
Ares changed into Mars and I have to say, I'm still a little surprised. Mars can read. READ! And he can WRITE! I didn't think it was possible. Mars is so different than Ares.
"Hey! Stop embarrassing my kid. Anyway, Frank Zhang and blah blah blah. Your life will no longer be tied to a stick, and blah blah blah, and you will be made the minor god of shapeshifting. Do you accept?"
Frank, still holding Hazel's hand, said, "I do."
Aphrodite shrieked, "You may now kiss the bride!" Frank looked bewildered.
He looked at me for support and I just shrugged. Hazel was like thirteen. Weren't there laws against this?
"Um... not in marriage!" He stuttered, a little frantic, "I accept the godhood."
He clamped his mouth shut and I chuckled at the two of them. Hazel was fanning her face and refused to look anywhere but the convenient golden wall placed beside her. Frank was sweating and looked worried. Annabeth pointed out Hera giving me a dirty look. Deja Vu, anyone?
"Piper McLean!" Aphrodite said, still grinning, "You will be made the minor god of beauty and charmspeak for your aid in defeating the giants. Do you want it?"
Piper smiled and nodded. She looked really tense. Suddenly, my stomach grumbled. Athena groaned and shoved her face in her hands, muttering something about incompetent sea scum. Everyone else laughed.
I scratched the back of my head, "What? We didn't get to finish breakfast!"
Annabeth kissed my cheek, "Such a Seaweed Brain."
Hermes and Apollo were practically rolling on the floor with laughter. "My favorite cousin!" They screamed in unison.
Even Hestia and Artemis were chuckling. I could tell Hades was trying to keep a straight face, but seriously, he's gotta stop. He looks constipated.
"Jason Grace," Jupiter bellowed, "Your heroics have deemed you worthy of being the minor god of winds and lightning. If you choose to accept, we will agree to let you serve as my lieutenant for the rest of time."
Jason looked shocked. Then he smiled, "I accept the godhood, your highness."
Jupiter shifted back into Zeus and looked at me pointedly, "You could learn some manners from my son, sea spawn."
I rolled my eyes and yawned. Piper, Jason, Frank, and Hazel looked horrified. Jason whispered, "Nice knowing ya, man."
I just grinned at them. Thalia, Nico, and Annabeth looked amused. Of course, they did. They only knew me too well.
Zeus snickered, "One can only hope." Then he turned serious again, "Thalia Grace."
Thalia stepped forward calmly, her tiara glittering on her black hair.
"We cannot lift your rank any higher, but again, we can promise help in filling in your hunters' ranks. However, Athena, Artemis, and I wish to bless you with increased powers of a child of Zeus, battle strategy, and further power of the hunt."
Thalia nodded, "Alright, Father."
Three beams of silver light shot into her heart and she joined Reyna in Unconsciousness Land.
Athena smiled, "Annabeth Chase. You have helped us previously. With Camp Half-Blood in ruins due to that imbecile child of Apollo, you will be the in charge of its reconstruction. Also, you will be made the minor god of wisdom if you so wish. What is your choice, my daughter?"
Annabeth looked torn. Finally, she looked at me and I took her hand and nodded in reassurance. She sighed, "I wish to remain mortal."
No one looked surprised. Athena asked her about it anyway, "Why?"
Annabeth looked sideways at me, "Because I already know Percy's choice."
Athena argued her point, "But you will be made a god with him this time."
Annabeth shrugged, "No one knows him like I do."
I grinned at Athena, who looked a little miffed. I had to completely shove down and gag the urge to say, 'In your face!'
Poseidon spoke up, "Perseus Jackson. You denied our gracious offer of minor godhood after the Titan War. We wish to give you a throne as an Olympian God." My friends gaped at me.
"Annabeth was right. I wouldn't have accepted even if she had. I can't. However, I want something in return for me losing eight months of my life to fight this war." I glared at Hera.
"I want Hestia and Hades to have a throne on Olympus. They deserve a say in these kinds of things. Also, I know that you didn't free Calypso like I'd asked. You swore on the River Styx," The gods looked ashamed of themselves. Serves them right.
I continued with a shrug, "But, I figure that Leo's alive and has probably already rescued her, so I want something else. I need a list of the minor gods. Every last one. Gaia still turned some of them against us, like Kympoleia. Everyone gets a shrine this time. Everyone gets a cabin. So that if their demigod children ever show up, there will be something waiting for them."
My friends looked at me appraisingly. I'm on a roll today. Then, they realized what I'd said.
Piper and Jason attacked me, "You think Leo's alive?"
I shrugged, "It's just a gut feeling. Hades?"
Hades's black tablet appeared in his hands, "Well, his soul isn't in the Underworld."
They were smiling like maniacs and for a second, were even more jittery than Leo was.
"This time, I want to see it happen." I watched as Athena passed around a pad of paper to write their godly children down and Zeus snap his fingers.
Two more thrones appeared at the end each side, one red and flickering with flames, the other crawling with bones and shadow.
Hestia and Hades smiled gratefully at me. Eventually, the paper was handed to me. I looked at the list, that just went on, and on, and on, and on, and on. The paper must have stretched for miles. I grin.
My stomach growls again. "So about that breakfast thing?" I look at the gods.
Zeus cleared his throat to speak, "Perseus Jackson. The gods have made a decision. We know that you are loyal to Olympus. You have helped us, so we will grant you one other thing. The gods have decided to bless you-"
I cut him off, "Who sneezed?"
Annabeth facepalmed and turned to Piper, "This is what I deal with every day."
Athena took that moment to jump into the conversation, "So you'll let him go?" She looked hopeful.
Annabeth glared at her, "No."
Zeus continued, "As I was saying, the gods will bless you with powers from our spheres of influence. You have no say in this matter. I grant you safety in the skies. You can now pass through the air without fear of getting struck down. Also, you will have the electric power of my children. Your father cannot give you much more. Except he does grant you power over shape shifting. There is no child of Poseidon stronger than you."
I take small bows, muttering, "Thank you, thank you."
Zeus grinned, saying, "Furthermore, you will have the power over the dead and shadow travel, the power of Charmspeak, power over fire, the ability to tell if someone is lying, skill in thievery, proficiency with the bow and arrow, and the power to make plants grow."
The gods shot me with small beams of light. How long will it take for me to faint? The correct answer, I didn't faint.
Honestly, I'm more surprised they weren't going to be paranoid freaks about 'a demigod that's too strong.' The horror! We should just vote to kill him like the rational deities we are!
Artemis snapped her fingers and we appeared back in the Dining Pavilion, everyone sitting at the Poseidon Table.
Everyone else crowded around my table, asking what had happened. Jason spoke, "Me, Piper, Frank, and Hazel are gods."
Every oohed and aahed. The Roman campers looked confused, "What about Percy and Annabeth?"
Piper said, "Percy was offered a position as an Olympian god. He turned it down. Annabeth isn't a god because she knew Percy wouldn't want to be."
The Venus/Aphrodite children fangirled, "PERCABETH!!!"
I spoke, trying out my new power, "Everyone go back to your tables!"
They complied. This is so cool!
I listened as my friends got excited over their new roles. I was happily stuffing my face with pancakes when Piper brought me into the conversation. Dam you, Piper! Let a guy eat his pancakes. Heh heh. Dam. Never gets old.
"Percy! Why'd you turn down being an Olympian?" Piper asked.
I shrugged, "Csh I dun ly reshpunshiby." I replied, my mouth full.
She looked disgusted. She turned to Annabeth, who responded, "He doesn't like responsibility."
Hazel looked astounded, "How'd you know?"
"When you spend five years with the same Seaweed Brain, you'll get the hang of it," She said, ruffling my hair.
Just because I was a little, teensy, tiny bit immature, doesn't mean anything. I pouted, swallowing my pancakes. That reminded me of something.
"Piper! Jason!" I screamed, "Annabeth resisted my seal face!"
They looked horrified. Hazel asked, "What's your seal face?"
I raised an eyebrow at her, "I'll tell you if you make me two dozen blue cookies."
She frowned, "No way, Perce. You're like a little brother to me and all, but seriously?"
I looked at Piper. She motioned forward, exasperated, "Just do it."
I shot her my best baby seal face and said, "Please?"
She melted. She got up and went into the kitchen to make me some. Yay! Blue cookies!
Frank leaned forward, surprised, "Was that charmspeak?"
Piper cut off my reply, "If that were charmspeak, all of us would be up getting him cookies. Hazel's will is strong."
Frank nodded, "Uh huh. So, Percy, can you teach me that move?"
I turned to him with my best Chiron impression, "No, Frank Zhang. The baby seal face is for masters only. And by masters, I mean," I dropped the act and grinned, "The one and only, PERSASSY!"
Everyone in the Dining Pavilion laughed. I know, I'm a funny guy.
I am a time skippy, time skippy, time skippy. Later in the day is the best time of day because you have enough energy to get rid of people you hate.
Chiron trotted up to me, "Percy. It's about time you visited your mother."
Oh. Is it bad that I forgot she hasn't seen me in almost a year? Stop making me feel bad! Sometimes people forget stuff! Jeez. Oh well.
Argus drove me to my apartment and dropped me off. He winked at me with one of his eyes. I wonder how many he has?
I took a deep breath and opened the door.
"Mom! I'm home!"
