Chapter 18- Beach Picnic

This is just a bit before we loose Rose to the alternate universe

"This is Lucas?" The Doctor asked a grin on his face as Lucas was in front of us playing with some of his toys and sometimes looked at the water and giggled.

"Yeah." I said with a smile as I picked up a toy and made a face at him. To which he giggled too.

"He says that you make weird faces a lot." The Doctor said looking at Lucas.

Percy just smiled, "It makes him giggle." Percy said with a shrug.

"You speak baby?" Rose asked but was interrupted.

"Hey dad!" A voice shouted from the water, "watch this!" Atlantia was on a surfboard as Percy controlled the water for the nice waves.

Atlantia then performed an expert surfboard move which Percy gave a thumbs up too and Lucas clapped his little chubby hands giggling.

"How many times has she been surfboarding?" Rose asked next to the doctor.

"Not many. This is her fifth time on the board as far as I'm aware." Percy said

"She's really good." The Doctor said impressed.

Percy just smiled knowingly, "She gets it from both sides of her family. Annabeth's side calculates the math part and well my side, my side just live in the water. Both figuratively and literally."

The Doctor just laughed, "Seems like she might know how to surf then." he said smiling enjoying the break away from running from things and putting his companion in danger.

Rose leaned back and started a tan and The Doctor couldn't help but look at her with loving eyes and Percy moved near him a bit, "You know she likes you back." Percy said

The Doctor just looked away, "I can't stand to see someone I like, or love or that matter, die of old age while I live on." The Doctor said back to Percy quietly trying not to alert Rose to their conversation.

"It's part of life," Percy said, "Funny story. The first time I was asked to become a god I said no."

"Why?" The Doctor asked.

"Because that would've meant that I wouldn't have been able to date the one I wanted to. Annabeth and I haven't even started dating then but I had a crush on her and at that moment I just knew I couldn't say yes. It wouldn't have been fair to either of us. But one way or another the person you love may be in danger and you have to decide. Is it worth losing something that you never told you loved? Or is it better to lose something that was dear to you and created so many memories together and know that at least you got to spend as much time with one another as you did? But what do I know, I didn't tell the girl I loved till after the war that was suppose to kill me."

The Doctor fell silent but it wasn't awkward or anything. Percy just gave the Doctor a lot to think about.

Lucas started to gurgle and point toward the water and the Doctor didn't have to say anything to tell Percy what Lucas wanted because the next thing they knew Percy scooped Lucas up and took him toward the shallow area of the water and let him play in it with Percy keeping him steady as waves crashed around lightly.

"You guys have a nice chat?" Rose asked the Doctor still getting a slight tan.

"Yeah." The Doctor said with a small smile, "I think we did."

They both smiled as they heard Atlanta's whoop as she did another trick and Lucas's giggles and Percy's laugh because sometime Lucas would splash him or Atlantia would.

"Are all gods like that?" Rose asked sitting up.

"Not even close." The Doctor said, "But some of them are laid back. I know Poseidon is and Hades can be even if he can be dark and gloomy. There's Apollo and Hermes too. Just hope we don't run into Zeus he's got a stick up his arse I can tell you that."

Rose mocked gasped, "The Doctor swearing. It's unheard of."

The Doctor just started laughing.
