Chapter 8: We Start the Quest

Sorry my special readers! I had writers block for some time. I did mostly because I lost a book a wrote, and then I got really upset. Plus I've been really busy lately. I hope this was a good enough excuse! Continue reading! I really like this chapter! SO... I wish I had brought it up here sooner!

I would say that Leo and I are pretty good friends now. I thought about him as I packed for the quest, on Saturday night. We would be leaving first thing tomorrow morning, after breakfast of course.

I went to bed still thinking of Leo. I seemed and felt happier all day. I think I even dreamed of him...

The next morning, I woke up to the wind blowing. Which wasn't really the wind. It was more like Jason blowing me with wind.

I groaned. "Can you stop waking me up like that?" I moaned.

"Well it works doesn't it?" he laughed.

I glared at him, and he put up his hands in innocence.

"So what's with you and Leo?" he asked me surprisingly.

"Why do you want to know?" I complain.

"Well you ARE my little sister, and I think it's tie for me to start acting like a ig brother. So, what's with you and Leo?" he asks again.

"I'm not that much younger than you." I mumble and then continue, "And we're just friends..."

I lingered on that last word a little to long. It made what I said sound suspicious. He gave me a questioning look, and took a few steps closer to me.

"Really?" he smiled at me as I got up.

"Yes really!" I exclaimed.

"Are you sure?" he grinned wildly at me. I really wanted to tell him.

"FINE! SHEESH! I'll tell you." I gave up frustrated.

"Yes!" he walked over and plopped down next to me on my bed.

"Ok. But if you tell ANYONE, I will take it upon myself to kill you with your own sword." I threatened. He put his hands up, again, in innocence. "Good. Now I actually really like Leo, and-"

"I NEW IT!" he shouted.

"Let me finish!" I complained. "So we've been hanging out and getting to know each other. He even made me this." I rolled up my sleeve and showed him the bracelet Leo made. He stared at it in aw.

"Woah! He made you that?!" he asked.

"Yeah. We have matching ones. It turns into a sword, see?" I demonstrated by tapping on the small bead, sticking out of the top. The bracelet instantly sprang up into my hands, but in midair, it turned into a beautiful bronze gleaming sword.

"Well you know how you like him? Well I know something that you don't." He said proudly.

"What? Wait do you know if he likes me or not? TELL ME!" I tugged at his arm.

"That's not my secret to tell." he said cruelly.

"Please! This is life or death! Help! Tell me! Please!" I shout desperately.

"Nope. Nope. Sorry. But I will tell you this, he is going to do something soon. Maybe today. Maybe tomorrow. You don't know but I do." he said mysteriously.

"You guys coming to breakfast?" Percy asks from the doorway.

"How long were you standing there?" I ask horrified.

"Um... Long enough to know." he smiled.

"Ugh!" I threw my hands in the air in frustration, and stomped out the door.

"What's up with her?" I hear Percy ask Jason from behind me.

About twenty feet from breakfast, someone calls my name.

"Clover! What's up?" I see Leo running towards me making my frustration melt right of my shoulders.

"Hey!" he finally catches up to me as I yell and wave to him.

"I've gotta ask you something." my heart did a small leap. "Are you ready for the quest?"

My smile wanted to slip away, and turn into a frown, but I kept it plastered on my face.

"Um..... Yeah." I said. Then I turned and kept walking.

When we got to the table, the others were there waiting, except for Jason and Percy, who arrived right after us.

I stuffed down my food so we could hurry up and start the quest.

"Clover, I actually got something real to ask you." Leo said seriously as he walked me back to my cabin, but he also sounded nervous. "Will you be my girlfriend?"

I was shocked, but also happy. He said it so strait forward. No roses, no anything. I must've been thinking too long because he got even more embarrassed and nervous.

"Well you don't have to say yes... I mean, you wouldn't be the first girl to turn me down." he scratched the back of his neck.

"YES! It took you long enough" I snapped out of my thoughts. He was shocked at my answer.

"I wou-... bu-... Really? Your not joking right? Like that would just be cruel." he explains.

"I am completely serious. I'm happy!" I gave him a big hug, and skipped off toward my cabin.

When I got back, I noticed that Jason was already there.

"JASON! HE DID!" I shouted at him, scaring him out of his skin.

"Uhuh... I knew it... Who are we talking about?" he questioned.

"LEO! DUH!" I shouted.

"OH! Cool. Told you he would." he smirked.

"Yeah well, don't do that whole protective older brother thing. Your gonna mess something up. I know it. And plus your not that much older than me anyway." I demand.

"Yeah not happening. You are my half-sister, but still a sister. Plus Leo is my best friend so I am watching him." he laughed evilly.

I crossed my arms over my chest and pouted. Then I remembered that I had to grab my things. I had packed my things I needed into my backpack, and left.

Frank, Hazel, Piper, Jason, Annabeth ,Percy, Nico, Leo, and I all decided to go and meet at Thalia's Tree. Which, according to Percy, Thalia has 'escaped' from it. I think that is good at least.

Somehow Jason had beaten me there, and all I can assume he did was fly. I walked and flying is faster. I saw Leo talking to Frank. He looked excited, but yet a little nervous. Or I might be seeing an after appearance of Leo, after he has had a nightmare. After all, he DID look a little shaken up about something. He gave me a small glance and a small smile.

"Ready to go?" I ask my friends.

"Ready when you are." Leo smirked.

"Ready." the others agreed in unison.

We all take five seconds to prepare ourselves to leave the protective borders of this home sweet home, safe camp.

"Did Hermes give you any information about...well, anything?" Percy asks.

"I don't think so." I say unsure. "All know is that it's a giant."

"Well why don't we Iris Message?" Hazel asks.

"Nice idea!" Annabeth pats Hazel on the shoulder. I don't know what an Iris Message is, but I think I'll find out soon.

Annabeth takes a golden coin out of her pocket, which I am guessing is a drachma. I've heard of them around camp, but never seen one in person before now. Then, I see Percy will the water out of the ground. The water turns into a circulating fountain of mist. Annabeth tosses the drachma into the mist.

"Oh Iris, Goddess of the Rainbow, please except my offering." Annabeth tells the mist. The drachma disappeared when it hit the mist. "Show me Hermes, the Messenger of the Gods."

The mist shimmers and an image appears. Annabeth turns and looks at Percy, but he just shrugs.

"Usually we can't do things like this. Usually it is blocked. I think they might want us to find them. It could be a trap." Piper says what's on everyones mind.

"Yeah. Sure. Or it might mean that there is a MESSENGER OF THE GODS ON THE OTHER END!" An annoyed, but familiar, voice sounds from the image.

I walk over to the image and I see a man sitting in a chair. Hermes. Then, just like how last time he annoyed me last time we met, he managed to do it again.

"Look who decided to finally answer my call." I roll my eyes, and the god glares at me. "Well anyway, the reason you were able to get through was because I helped you. Normally you wouldn't be able to. Anyway, this connection won't last long, at least according to Percy holding this together and me trying to keep it going."

I peered back at Percy, who was to my surprise, sweating like a dog. He nodded in agreement with Hermes.

"Well, then we need to get the point." Annabeth says matter-of-factly. "We need to know a few things about where you are. At least the name of the giant, so we know what were up against."

"I can answer that. I am in Los Angeles, the worst monster place ever! It's disgusting! And the giant's name is Polybotes." Hermes explains. Why couldn't say those few words in my dream?

"WHAT?! I thought he was dead!" Percy complains.

"Yeah, well he as the first and ONLY giant back from the war with Gaea. For those of you that don't know, he is the opposite of Poseidon. He was born to destroy Poseidon. So, that means that you Percy must be super careful." Hermes nodds in Percy's direction because his arms were tied down to his sides.

"Ok. On it." Annabeth slices her hand through the image, to cut the connection to Percy's relief.

Percy let out a sigh of relief. He bent over, put his hands on his knees, and tried to catch his breath like he had just run a marathon.

"Well let's get started." Leo said lacing his fingers into my hand, and dragging me along with him in the lead of everyone. "Piper don't you know where that is?"

"Yeah. I guess. I mean I can find it because I used to live in California." Piper realized. "Alright then, I guess I will take the lead, instead of you and Clover" She pushes past us and marches on.

"Wait, can you shadow travel us closer to Los Angeles, Nico and Hazel?" Piper asks when we reach the road.

"Maybe. But I need to wake up a little more. And Hazel can't do it alone. For now let's just take the taxi." Nico suggests.

We walk farther into the city, so we will have a better chance of catching a taxi. We had to get three taxi's. Three of us in each. I was with Leo and Jason. The second taxi held Piper, Frank, and Hazel. Piper didn't seem to happy about not being with Jason. And the last taxi drove Percy, Annabeth, and Nico. We were going to the nearest subway, so we can ride as close to Los Angeles as possible.

Sadly, the closest we could get was to Pennsylvania. We decided to find a train, to take us to Los Angeles.

"Relax guys. This is going to be a long ride." Percy says once we were on the right train that would take us straight to Los Angeles. "We can discuss the plan. Sleep. Just sit here. Whatever."

"I vote sleep." I pipe up. Everyone nods in agreement.

I put my head back, and went out like a light.

A little later I woke with a start. I heard a loud bang. The train was rocking back and forth, and there were no lights on either. It was frightening. I looked around to find the others. They were in the same state as me; shock. Then, the ceiling exploded...
