PERCY JACKSON: A Percabeth One-Shot

"PERCY! PERCY, HELP!" Percy heard Annabeth's screams, loud and clear over the clamor of the battle around him. His eyes widened in fear as the screams remained consistent. "HELP! PERCY, HELP!" Percy gritted his teeth, slashing his way through monsters as he made his way towards Annabeth.
"ANNABETH! I'M COMING!" Percy began to panic, running as fast as he could, not caring about the monsters that leaped into his path. When he saw her, he had to fight back tears. Annabeth was lying on the ground, a deep puncture wound in her side. Her curly, blonde hair was streaked with dirt, her hands covered in her own blood. Percy knelt by her, whispering, "Annabeth, you'll be fine."
Annabeth glared at him. "Shut up, Seaweed Brain. I'm not going to be fine and we both know that."
Percy didn't bother holding back tears anymore. He sobbed, cradling her head in his hands. "Annabeth, you can't leave me."
She looked up at him, her stormy gray eyes meeting his sea-green ones. "Percy, you have to move on in life. Find a new girl. Live a happy life." Annabeth choked out her words. Tears streamed down Percy's face.
"No. Annabeth, you can't go. I love you."
Annabeth's eyes became watery as she whispered, "I love you too, Seaweed Brain." She drew in her last, rattling breath. Then her body went limp.
"NO!" Percy screamed. Sobs racked his entire body. Crying, he closed Annabeth's eyes. His shoulders shook as the battle subsided, disentegrating monsters all around him. He held Annabeth's cold, lifeless body in his arms, carrying her up the hill, where Grover and Chiron stood.
"Oh, Gods," Grover said softly when he saw Annabeth's limp body in Percy's arms.
"How is she?" Chiron asked, his eyebrows furrowing.
"Gone," Percy whispered with finality.

That night, Camp Half-Blood grieved for the former Cabin 6 counselor. Percy sobbed the entire ceremony, eventually dragged out, screaming, by Grover. He cried himself to sleep that night, and many nights afterwards. "Why, Annabeth? Why did you leave me?" he thought. He was never the same again. Though he didn't cry as much, he was solemn and never smiled or laughed. His green eyes lost their usual spark of mischievousness. Annabeth had been a part of him, and losing her was like losing a limb: he would never be able to live on in life normally. Sometimes, just walking around camp, the memories of Annabeth would sneak up behind him and strangle him with grief, bringing him sobbing to the ground.

During a battle about half a year after Annabeth's death, Percy was slashing at monsters with Riptide, fueled by the anger and grief of losing her. However, monsters began to surround him. He swung Riptide madly, screaming insults at them. But one caught him from behind. Percy crumpled, color draining from his face. Nico, fighting in battle only a few feet away, sensed that Percy was in trouble. When he saw the son of Poseidon lying on the ground, blood streaming from the wound in his back, Nico's heart dropped to his feet. He slashed at the monsters separating him from Percy, kneeling by him. Nico lifted Percy's head into his arms.
"I guess I'm gonna die," Percy said, almost laughing.
"That's bullshit, Percy. You're the son of freaking Poseidon, you survived Tartarus." Nico was on the verge of tears.
"I only survived Tartarus because of Annabeth. I'm not gonna make it." Percy looked at Nico. "But you...you survived on your own. You're really badass, you know that, Nico? Like Annabeth. She was badass." Percy was becoming hysterical.
"Percy! You can survive this!" Nico started yelling. "Percy! You're one of the last people I care about that's still alive!"
"At least I'll be with Annabeth now," Percy sighed, smiling. His breaths were shaky and slow.
"Percy! No!" Nico was screaming and sobbing, cursing in Italian. "Just...stay here! I'll get some ambrosia..." Nico saw Percy take his last breath, smile, and go limp. Nico just sat there for a while, silent tears dribbling down his face. He looked at Percy. He looked more calm, peaceful, and happy than he had in a long time.
Nico finally smiled too, glad to know that somewhere in Elysium, Percy and Annabeth were happy again.
