Percy Makes A Choice (and also some Poseidon)
Percy sat on his bunk Cabin 3, alone and unsure what to do with the choice he had been offered. The new choice, because gods know he'd been offered plenty of stressful choices lately.
Percy thought for a second. By saying gods now, was he talking about himself? And, the gods were originally Greek, but then became Roman, then American. What about Percy? He was born and raised in New York, nothing special.
He shook off the thought. Too much to think about. Percy grabbed a picture off the wall, a picture he'd had for years, and tucked it in his pocket before heading out the door of his cabin.
The walk to the Athena cabin felt longer than it used to. And knocking on the door felt harder than it was before. But Percy still managed to do it. His knuckles pounded aginst the door, and he heard a muffled
"Coming!"
from inside. Seconds later the door sung open.
"Oh, uh hey, Malcolm. Is Annabeth here?" Percy asked tentatively.
"Oh... Hey Percy... Um no, Annabeth just left." Malcolm responded, not looking at Percy.
"Oh, okay. Im gonna go see if i can, ya know, catch up to her. Ill see ya around." Percy responded quickly, before turning and leaving.
Her ran up the main path, and looked for Annabeth everywhere.
Finally he spotted a head of blonde curls holding a... Was that a suitcase?
"Hey, Annie...beth." Percy added quickly, after remembering the glare she had given him when he last attempted to use the nickname.
Annabeth turned, gods (again Percy wondered if this applied to him) she was beautiful. Her dark circles had been miraculously cleared up, her eyes were no longer puffy, and her hair was in a regal braid. She didnt usually wear her hair like that, but Percy thought nothing of it.
"Yes, Percy?" Annabeth responded, her voice monotone, and her expression flat.
"Um i was wondering if we could...talk." Percy stammered.
"No, we cannot. Im leaving. It is winter break after all. And you have a decison to make, so im told." Annabeth said, turning from Percy.
Percy stood dumbfounded. She had just...left. She hadnt given him a second thought, she just...
Oh.
He saw his own actions reflected in Annabeths'.
"Wise girl," Percy muttered under his breath as he walked away. He headed to the Big House. Maybe it was time he make his decsion.
He sighed and climed the stairs towards the door. He stepped in and found Chiron and Mr. D. talking to each other in hushed tones. They stopped abruptly as Percy entered.
"Ah, Percy." Chiron stood quickly and awkwardly. "Have you made your decsion?"
"Yes, i have. Ive decided that I will stay here, at Camp, until i turn eighteen. Once my eighteenth birthday, i will live in the sea, with my father."
"Ah, and has your father been notified of this fact as of yet?"
"I will send him an iris message as soon as i return to my cabin."
"Good," Chron sighed and rubbed his eyes, as though he had a headache forming "Perhaps you do that now, yes?"
Percy nodded and retreated from the building, following the path to his cabin. He threw a coin in the rainbow in the corner.
"O Iris, goddess of the Rainbow. Accept my offering. Show me Poseidon, in his kingdom."
The rainbow shimmered and glowed until it revealed Percy's father's face. Poseidon, god of the Sea, stared at his son.
"Ah, Percy!" He sounded tired, happy, and sad, to see Percy. "Hello, son. What do you need?"
"Father," Percy began shakily "would it be alright with you if, after my eighteenth birthday, i dwell with you in the sea? I could assist you in your kingdom."
"Of course, son. That sounds splendid. Though i do wish you didnt have to dwell here. If you could continue on with your mother... Im sure that would be ideal for both of you." Poseidon sighed heavily.
"Thank you father. I will speak with you later." Percy waved his hand through the mist before he broke down into tears. Maybe he cried so much because of his fondness of water. He laughed at himself, then stood and walked to his bed. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a photo.
A photo he'd had for about three years, after his first copy had been ripped up and spit out by some cannibals, right before a very dangerous game of dodgeball. Percy smiled at the memory, at looked down at the picture in my hand.
Annabeth looked pleased with herself, like she'd designed the Lincoln Memorial behind, her herslef. Her blonde hair was pulled back with a bandana and Percy couldnt help wishing he could go back to that time.
(Switchin to Poesidon now!!)
Poseidon stared at the area where the image of his son's face had previously been. He sighed heavily and put his head in his hands. What had Percy gotten himself into? He should know not to let his uncle make decsions for him.
He called his brother and complained about his sons fate for the milionth time, begging for the so called gift to be lifted from Percy. He couldnt help being upset. His son had just been doomed.
