Annabeth and Athena are scary together
Percy began to tremble. He was frightened of his uncle. " Z-zeus," he squeaked out. He took another look at Annabeth, and knew she would never forgive him. "I- i accept your gift."
Percy looked at the gods standing around him. He felt Athena's eyes creating holes in the back of his head. Percy couldnt bear another look at Annabeth. He stared at the floor, but his Zeus finally breathed a somewhat normal breath.
"Thats more like it Perseus," his uncle said. It sounded like he might be... laughing? "Now all you have to do is drink some Ambrosia wine, and we'll be set." He clapped his hands together. He waved one and an ancient looking vase appeared in his hand, as well as a cup. Zeus poured the wine and handed it to Percy.
Percy grabbed the wine glass tentatively. He felt a tear roll down his cheek but he ignored it. He look up at his uncle, the King of the Gods. The Lord of the Skies. Soon he would be on the same plain as his father and his uncle. He wouldnt have to worry about death, or future prophesies. He would no longer have to do his own bidding.
Yet...
He couldnt help wanting to refuse the wine. He couldnt help wanting to gently set the glass down and walk away. Oh Hades, he wouldnt care if he never came back to Olympus. He had saved the gods butts enough for a whole lifetime. But he looked up and saw his father, and Zeus, and Hera, and the rest of the gods, staring at him expectantly. Only Athena wasnt visually willing him to drink the wine.
He put the rim of the glass to his mouth.
He tipped the wine glass.
He felt the hot liquid trickle down his throat. He thought he was going to burn from the inside out, like he had always been warned about at camp. But it seemed having Zeus approve his godlihood made up for it. He drank the wine until his cup was empty. And then he hear footsteps run from the room.
Annabeth.
He thanked the gods hastily, set down the glass, and raced after her. He ran through the large throne "room" they had first encountered the gods in. He ran out the large doors and down the streets of Olympus.
Eventually, Percy found Annabeth crying next to the falled Hera statue. He made a mental note to make sure Hera never picked on Annabeth or Thalia again. Kneeling next to Annabeth, he put his arm around her.
"Get off! Get. Off!" She screamed at him, throwing his arm off her. She looked up at him, tears streaming out of her pink and puffy eyes. He couldnt help his heart hurting. He had done this to her. He had made her cry. Percy wanted to kick himself. "Wh-why did you do it? Why did you accept?" Annebeth got out the words; it sounded like she was choking on them.
"Annie-" she glared at him "A-Annabeth...It'll be okay." He didnt know how else to respond. Why had he accepted? He didnt really want to be a god. Not when he had Annabe- Not when he had so many good friends in his life. "I... I dont know why i did it." Percy slid from kneeling position to criss cross. He stared at the cracked brick pavement before him. More tears ran down his cheeks, hot and salty balls of saddness. He didnt have the energy to wipe them away. "Im so.... Im so sorry." He choked out through sobs.
Annabeth stared at the boy she had liked so much. He was impossible now. He was a literal god. She had no chance, and even if she did, she was mortal. She would die and he would find somebody new to love. Her tears slowed. "Its not okay, Seaweed Brain. You just abandoned me. Im happy for you. Enjoy immortality." She stood and walked away.
Percy sat there. He cried. The tears stopped. His heart was burnning and his chest felt like hed just been ripped open. He eventually stood to see an unfarmilar pair of grey eyes before him.
"Athena," he greeted the goddess.
"Perseus Jackson." She folded her arms over her chest. "Youre even stupider than youre father. Thats a new level of idiocy." Athena took another step towards him "If you make another move on my daughter, after what youve just done to her spirit and soul, i promise you will be crushed. I can do so much more than send cows after you, or set silly traps to catch you. You may be immortal, but i will end you."
And with that, the Goddess of War and Strategy left Percy Jackson with an even larger hole and burning in his chest.
Wait...
That wasnt figurative...
Percy felt like his chest was on fire. He felt like he would burn up any second now. What was going on??
And then he hit the pavement.
