oneshot #34 : percy's secret

a / n : hello demigods! so, my very awesome friend requested this rather eagerly the other day, and i decided to give it a shot. here's the prompt she found and i based it off of.

yeah, so, i didn't know what i planned to do going into this, because the post itself doesn't exactly have any room to add on. so basically i just wrote it including annabeth. hope you like it, FictionFanTeen !!

Annabeth sighed happily.

Chiron had finally put a study group in place on her request. Annabeth herself had spread the word, and the turnout was perfect.

A variety of kids, from Athena to Ares sat scattered around the pavilion, each partnered with another. They helped each other with homework (for those who were visiting on a break from school, and those with summer assignments) or activities specific to their cabin--for example, two demeter kids were sharing personal soil tricks and taking notes.

No more than ten to fifteen campers joined, which Annabeth thought was just right for the calm atmosphere she was going for.

Percy sat next to her, bent over makeup work, deep in thought. One hand held his pencil, and the other held Annabeth's own hand.

Annabeth was mostly there for assistance, having nothing to work on. When she wasn't being talked to, she added finishing details to blueprints or read a few pages of her current reads.

"Does anyone know the square root of nine?" A young Hephaestus kid asked. "I forgot my calculator."

"It's three," Annabeth said.

The kid gave her a large grin and went back to his project. Annabeth wasn't exactly sure what a contraption like the one in his hands would need the square root of nine for, but he was obviously grateful.

Annabeth turned back to her blueprint, finding she needed the square root of nine herself.

Percy muttered to himself next to her, causing her mind to drift to his work.

"Need any help?" she asked him.

Percy looked up. "Huh? Oh, no."

She watched as he went back to staring at his paper. A few moments later, he looked up at her again.

"Actually, yeah. It's not homework related, though."

Annabeth raised an eyebrow. "Oh, yeah? Something distracting you?"

Percy smiled. "Exactly. I can't remember the name of a song I really like."

Annabeth pursed her lips. "Why are you thinking of this now?"

"I heard it earlier and it's bothering me," he shrugged.

Annabeth looked at the other demigods. "And now we're bothering them," she muttered. "Alright, what is it?"

"Now the day bleeds

Into nightfall

And you're not here

To get me through it all ~"

Percy finished singing and looked expectantly at her.

Annabeth's jaw had dropped open, along with every other demigod in the study group.

Percy raised his eyebrows. "Really?" He tilted his head. "I thought that was a well-known one."

Annabeth still hadn't gotten over the way he'd sung the few verses. His voice was like butter, and yet it jerked with emotion at the end of each word. It eerily reminded her of the Sirens, but she could listen to this all day.

Rachel, who'd been helping a young child of Apollo, laughed. "Never knew you could sing like that, Perce."

Percy looked around, as if just realizing everyone had stopped what they were doing. He rubbed the back of his neck. "Oh...yeah, I don't sing a lot."

Annabeth gave him a look. "Percy...how come you've never sung for me before?"

Percy shrugged, looking genuinely overwhelmed. "You never asked?"

Annabeth stared at the group of people around her, her mouth still open. "Well..." she cleared her throat. "It's called Someone You Loved, Percy."

Percy nodded in thanks.

A funny little laugh escaped Annabeth's lips in amazement, and she waved her hand. "Get back to work guys."

But Annabeth's mind constantly echoed with the small sample she'd gotten of Percy's voice, and so she finally made a mental note to ask him to sing more for her later.
