Oneshot #21: Percabeth is #1
Have you ever read a fanfiction where it's like:
Percy: I'm breaking up with you
Annabeth: *starts crying* B-but why?!
Percy: I don't love you *proceeds to run off to an Aphrodite girl*
Annabeth: *follows him and realizes the girl can charmspeak*
Annabeth: oh honey no that's my manz
Annabeth: *tackles the girl*
Percy: w-what just happened?
Annabeth: *kisses him*
No? Well, I have.
And this is my take on that. And no, it won't be anything like that XD (no offense to people who picture something like that happening, I just don't think that's how Annabeth would react, you know?)
Piper
Piper fingered the last strand of Annabeth's curly hair into the braid. "So how's everything with Percy?"
After the Giant War, Annabeth had been coming to Piper to talk about things like her relationship, and girly stuff like that.
It wasn't a subtle change, but Piper wasn't complaining. She enjoyed hanging out with Annabeth, even if she scared her at times.
Annabeth typed a bit on her new laptop. "Everything's good."
Piper nodded as she grabbed a rubber band and slipped it around the end of the braid. "And how--"
Before she could finish, Percy burst in the Athena Cabin's door, looking disoriented one second and calm the next.
"Percy?" Annabeth asked. "What's up?"
Percy looked at Annabeth. "Oh hey, Annabeth."
Piper furrowed her brows. Even she knew that the usual greeting from Percy to his girlfriend included some kind of Wise Girl remark.
And he'd said it as if he didn't expect to find her in her cabin.
Annabeth turned away from her laptop. "Everything alright?"
Percy sighed and made his way towards the two girls.
He plopped down on the bed and took Annabeth's hand in his. He noticed the braid in her hair. "It suits you."
Annabeth squinted. "Uh, thanks."
Piper watched the exchange with curiosity.
Percy finally seemed to notice Piper. "Oh...Piper. Hi."
Piper waved, a confused expression on her face.
But Percy continued nonetheless. "So, Annabeth. I was thinking..."
"Dangerous pastime," Annabeth muttered, but it didn't provoke the usual eye roll or snarky comeback from Percy.
"I don't think this is going to work out."
Annabeth stared at Percy, her eyebrow raised. "Oookay."
Piper stood up and began inching towards the door. This was absolutely none of her business.
But she stopped when Percy continued, she had to hear what was next.
"I think...I think we should split up."
Annabeth didn't say anything, but her eyebrow was raised quite high now.
"Don't get me wrong, I think you're great. Just...maybe not for me. Okay?"
Annabeth opened her mouth to answer when Percy rubbed his hands together.
"Well alrighty then. It's settled. I'll be off." He walked to the door. "See you, Piper."
When he was gone, Annabeth turned to Piper, her face blank.
"What in Hades just happened?" Piper asked.
Annabeth sat down onto her bed, staring at the spot that Percy had been sitting in. "Um..."
"Is he playing some kind of joke? I bet it was a dare. Probably Leo. Gods, that guy just doesn't know when to--"
"No." Annabeth stopped Piper mid-sentence. "Percy wouldn't joke about that, dare or not." She rubbed her temples.
Piper took a seat back on the bed. "So...what do you think he meant? I would suggest charmspeak by one of my siblings, but I still don't think it would have that large of an effect on Percy. He's stronger than--"
Annabeth's eyes suddenly lit up. She shot up from the bed and triumphantly walked out the door.
Piper shrugged and followed after.
~
Annabeth marched past Chiron, and then Grover, and then Mrs. O'Leary on her way to wherever.
Piper followed behind, apologizing to any of the small children being bulldozed. "Annabeth! Wait up!"
Annabeth slowed a bit, and Piper was able to catch her. "Where," she said between breaths, "are we going?"
Annabeth stared at Piper, a hard, firm stare.
"Will you help me?"
Piper blinked. "Uh, sure. But can you first tell me--"
"Wonderful. I need you to walk inside your cabin and declare that you and Jason have broken up."
Piper lost her footing. When she regained balance, the two girls found themselves in front of the Aphrodite Cabin.
"Why in Hades would I do that?"
Annabeth's eyes bore into Piper's. "Because I have a plan."
~
Wordlessly, Piper stepped into cabin ten, observing the gossip and all of the nail polish throughout the room.
She took a deep breath and turned it on. Her secret power.
Fake crying.
She let it rip, ugly crying and wiping at her eyes, wailing mostly incoherently about her breakup with Jason.
It was like a drill had been practiced, every girl and boy in the cabin dropped what they were doing and swarmed around Piper's sobbing form.
It was a frenzy of questions, tissues, and death threats, but mostly new "boyfriend material" options.
Piper tried not to gag as she saw Annabeth enter the cabin behind the mass of Aphrodite kids, slipping over to the last bunk, where a last person sat.
Piper vaguely remembered her name to be Bella. The girl was around Piper's own age, and hadn't bothered to join everyone else around her.
Before Annabeth could make it to Bella, though, she stood up. Over the crying, she called, "Piper, dear, why are you lying?"
Every pair of eyes in the room turned to Bella.
Piper sniffed. "W-why would you ever suggest such a thing? I love him!"
The attention was once more pryed off of Bella and taken to Piper.
Annabeth finally had a chance to get to her.
When Piper saw that Annabeth had Bella's arm, she dried her eyes.
"How did I do, Lacy?"
Lacy looked at the stopwatch in her hand. "High score. Good job everyone! Remember, next time it might not be a drill."
Aphrodite kids returned to their original spots as if nothing had happened.
Annabeth dragged Bella and Piper outisde with her.
Piper looked at Annabeth. "What now?"
Annabeth snorted. "Oh, yeah, 'what now.' I don't know, maybe you should ask your mother."
Piper turned in carefully disguised surprise to Bella.
After a few moments, she sighed.
"Yeah, I see it now."
Bella laughed. "You girls are too smart."
With a quick flash, the goddess Aphrodite stood before them, not entirely in her true form.
Piper crossed her arms. "Mom, what are you doing here?"
Aphrodite laughed. "My job, of course."
Annabeth scowled at the smile on the goddess's face. Finally, she asked, "Why do you have to keep messing with me and Percy? Can't we get one single year of peace? Haven't we proved ourselves enough?"
Piper winced at the tone Annabeth was using with a goddess.
But Aphrodite didn't seem to notice. "Oh, dear. Trials within a loving relationship will never waver. It's my job to make sure of that. And from what I observe," she pointed to herself. "You did just fine."
Annabeth let out a breath. "Can you please just snap him out of it? I don't want to deal with this right now."
Aphrodite waved her hand. "Oh, you've passed. Everything's back to how it was." Then she turned to Piper. "So, dear, how is everything with that son of Zeus?"
"Jupiter," Piper grumbled.
~
After Aphrodite had finally seen it fit to leave, Piper found Annabeth with Percy in the mess hall.
She hid behind a pillar as Annabeth spotted Percy.
"Hey, Seaweed Brain," Annabeth said softly.
Percy looked up. "Wise Girl, where have you been?" He was smiling crookedly.
Annabeth sighed in relief. "You don't want to know."
Annabeth slumped next to him at the Poseidon table.
They were alone, no other tables occupied, so technically no one could tell them off.
Percy took Annabeth's hand, but he didn't speak.
It was quiet for a few minutes, and Piper figured she should take her leave when Annabeth turned to Percy.
"So you...don't recall anything from this morning?"
Percy raised an eyebrow. "Um, unless you're talking about that prank Leo pulled, I'm confused."
Annabeth smiled. "We had some god trouble."
Percy frowned. "Oh no."
"It's alright, I took care of it."
"Who was it this time?"
Annabeth met Percy's eyes. "It doesn't matter. All that matters..."
She kissed him full on the lips.
"Is that I love you, don't forget it."
Piper turned and began moving away from the Mess Hall.
No wonder why Percabeth was #1 on that list in the Aphrodite Cabin.
