Coping (Part 2)

Someone wanted a part 2

You asked for it.

The blades came at my from all directions. Immediately, I knew I'd been ganged up on. A Roman came at my from every side and I tried my best to defend myself, receiving bruises and cuts on every piece of my body. Blood trickled into my eyes from a large cut just between my eyebrows, but I couldn't wipe it away. I had to keep my arms moving at all times to avoid being stabbed.

I slashed at a Roman's knees and he went down with a cry, his face contorted in pain.

One of this other friends lunged at me, jabbing straight for my stomach. I deflected him and his sword went flying. He pulled a small knife from his belt and continued after me.

And the last person attacked me from behind, but I sensed her move to literally stab me in the back and blocked, almost slicing her spear in half.

She rammed the end of it into my stomach and I stumbled, barely catching a glimpse of Nico not twenty yards away turn and shout something.

The guy caught my arms and I struggled, weak from the beating I had gotten from my attackers. But I managed to drive my foot down on his toes easily and he let loose of me, yelping.

The girl lunged for my neck but I hit her away, causing her to stumble but not fall. She regained her balance quickly while I was fending off her friend.

My vision was getting blurry from my eyes watering. The blood was drying right under them and I could feel the sting still. Bruises were forming everywhere and I knew that I was in bad shape. I'd have to eat some ambrosia before I fought more after this. If I survived.

The guy sliced at my throat but I managed to duck. The girl tried to stab me while I was down but she instead drove her spear into the spot I used to be. She struggled to pull it from the ground.

Finally it was just the guy and I deflected his moves easily. He only had the small dagger and his basic training skills so he should have been easy to knock down. However, I was exhausted now. I felt like my arms were made of wet sand and my shoes filled with lead.

I didn't notice the girl sneak up behind me. She kicked me in the back and I tripped, falling straight into the guy.

The knife felt like a hot iron searing through my skin. It was excruciating, burning through my stomach as blood soaked my tee shirt. I fell, my legs turning to jelly.

"Oh gods... I didn't think I'd... Holy Juno..." The guy freaked out.

"Shut up! We have to go, now. Hurry," The girl grunted.

My vision blurred and suddenly it was just me, my wound, and my dying thoughts.

It was weird, knowing you were a goner. Everything slowed down for a second and you realized these were your last moments. Your last breaths.

I savored the smell of grass and summer that was around me. I tried to ignore the coppery taste of blood in my mouth. The people rushing around me, trying to feed me ambrosia, faded into shapes and colors.

"Use your Apollo magic!"

"I can't, Nico!"

Slowly, I closed my eyes. I didn't want to see it. I didn't want to hear people telling me to stay with them when I could feel my body shutting down. The pain was gone now, replaced by a numbness that I felt taking over my entire body.

I tried to fight but couldn't. All I could think of was that I was breaking my promise to Percy. I wouldn't be the first person to see him when he was well. I'd never see him again.

I prayed he wouldn't take this too harshly. I hoped he'd get over me and move on. I wished he would be able to cope with it.

I knew that those thoughts were futile.

I was able to get in one last sweet breath before my body completely shut down. And I smelled hot strawberry fields, warm leather, and the sea breeze.
