Wedding
Edited.
I repeat, Edited.
This chapter is also the same as my chapter (The Big Day) in my other one shot book: Life Goes On. So, don't get confused if you go to read that and it's very similar to that one.
I just thought before I edited this, that one shot was just way too problematic for a Percabeth wedding. This one is much sweeter and wholesome.
I'm also thinking on writing a second part to this in Frederick's point of view because... well, you'll find out as you read.
Enjoy!
"Are you excited?" Piper asked as she sat Annabeth down in a chair in front of a huge vanity in the Aphrodite cabin. She grabbed the steaming curling iron and began to fix Annabeth's wild curls so they sat nicely.
"Yeah, nervous too." Annabeth felt underdressed. Piper was already in her light blue bridesmaid dress while Annabeth was literally only in white lacy undergarments.
It was her wedding day. The day she was getting married to Percy Jackson. They've been dating for four years and it was time to tie the knot. Sure, they were only twenty and young but they deserved it.
She wasn't really nervous about marrying Percy. She was nervous about all the Olympians being there along with her father. Everyone knew Annabeth didn't want to invite Hera or Zeus but it would have been rude not to. Besides, if she didn't she would probably be dead by now.
Her mother also wasn't easing her nerves. She had told Annabeth the day she got the invitation that she was too young. Which was exactly what her father said. Really wasn't what she wanted them to agree on but okay.
But, of course, she wasn't going to listen to people who were barely ever there for her. Her father did nothing but push her away until she felt unwanted when she was younger. And during her teen years, her mother loved to call her a disappointment.
What a family, right? Sometimes Annabeth didn't even know why she was having her dad, Frederick Chase, walk her down the aisle instead of Chiron or Paul Blofis, Percy's stepfather. He was more of a father than Frederick ever was.
"You have nothing to be nervous about," Piper told her softly. "Percy loves you."
"It's not that I'm worried about." Annabeth sighed. "It's the gods and my mortal family."
"Oh." Piper nodded in understanding and set the curling iron down. "The family who you ran away from at seven years old?"
"That's the one," Annabeth agreed.
Piper started braiding a few strands of hair in the front and pinned them in the back. She did the same with the other side and combined them into a bun at the back of her head.
"It'll be okay. They're not going to do anything on their daughter's wedding day," Piper said, spraying the braid in place.
"You're right." Annabeth inhaled through her nose and exhaled through her mouth.
"Nice bra by the way." Piper hooked her finger through the strap then let go so it snapped against Annabeth's tan skin. "Where'd ya get it?"
"Your mother." Annabeth smirked.
"Hm. Thought so," Piper laughed and turned Annabeth's chair around. "Not too much makeup, correct? But I can use some?"
Annabeth nodded. "Yeah."
"Great. Oh my gods, you're going to look so beautiful." Piper applied some powder around her face. "You're making me jealous," She said dramatically and put a blush on her cheeks.
"Oh, stop." Annabeth rolled her eyes. "You're the daughter of Aphrodite with color changing eyes. Any boy would fall for those eyes. It's always the eyes, you know."
Piper scoffed. "You don't need 'any boy'. You've already got the perfect one marrying you."
"I'm telling Jason you said that," Annabeth joked.
"Go for it," Piper dared and swiped a light eyeshadow on Annabeth's eyelids.
Annabeth flicked Piper's arm. "Your boyfriend better not be pulling any tricks on my wedding day. If he does, I'll personally beat his ass with a club."
Piper snorted. "Define tricks."
"Like propose," Annabeth said seriously. "Like, I'm all for you guys getting engaged but not on my wedding day, please. And I don't mean to sound selfish, I-"
"I get it. No, I don't think that's happening for a while. Unlike you and Percy, we're only teenagers and have been dating for only two years." Piper started on mascara. "But feel free to beat him with a club just for my amusement. You know, like a pinata."
Annabeth laughed. "I'm telling him you said that too."
"You do that. Close your eyes." Piper sprayed the setting spray on Annabeth's face. "You're done." She spun her chair around so Annabeth could look in the mirror.
"That was quick." Annabeth's eyes met her own in the mirror and she gasped. She almost looked like a different person but in a good way. There wasn't a drastic change but just the minimal amount of makeup she was wearing did the change.
"How do you like it?" Piper put away all the makeup.
Annabeth shrugged. "It's amazing, not too much." She stood from the chair and looked around the room in confusion. "Hey, where's my dress? I could've sworn I brought it in here."
"I think the girls are getting rid of a dirt stain they found at the bottom." Piper gave Annabeth a once over as a joke. "Girl, with that underwear I really hope you're not on your period."
"I'm not." Annabeth slapped Piper's arms. "It would totally suck if I was."
"Oh yeah it would." Piper smirked and Annabeth threw a pillow at her head. "Hey, watch out! I just got my hair done too."
Annabeth laughed. "It just straightened and pinned back."
"I don't care." Piper stuck her tongue out.
"Very mature." Annabeth rolled her eyes again.
"That's me, mature." Piper smiled innocently.
"But seriously, where's my dress? The wedding is in twenty minutes." Annabeth glanced over at the clock shaped like a heart on the wall. The whole cabin was full of pink and hearts, all too girly for Annabeth.
Piper sighed. "Girls! Annabeth needs her dress!"
Lacy ran out from the back, carrying the dress. "Here you go. We got the stain out, it's no longer there. You can't even tell there was anything there."
"Thank you, Lacy," Annabeth said and took the dress out of her arms.
The dress was beautiful to say the least. Well, it should be if it's given by a goddess. Annabeth had gotten it about a month ago when there were no wedding dresses that suited her at the stores. Her mother sent her a package in the mail containing the dress.
Since Percy and her lived together, Annabeth had Chiron hide it in an old closet in the big house. Then today, she got it and had the Aphrodite girls look over it and that's why they were cleaning a stain out of it.
It was white, like all wedding dresses were, and was an Ancient Greek style which was great because that was what Annabeth was going for. She didn't want too poofy but not too tight and her mother knew that apparently.
The top was a deep V-neck that Annabeth wasn't too fond of but it worked. It tightened around the waist then flowed out after that but not in a poof, it just went straight down which Annabeth liked.
The dress was very her.
Piper helped her into it, zipping it up while Annabeth held up her hair. Once the dress was zippered, Annabeth let her hair fall and spun around to face Piper. "How do I look?"
"You look beautiful." Piper blinked tears out of her eyes. "Percy's going to cry."
"I hope so. If he doesn't, I'll slap him," Annabeth laughed.
"I'm telling him you said that," Piper mimicked her. "Actually, I have a gift for you. I was going to wait till later but now seems like the appropriate time." She grabbed a grey bag off of her bag and handed it to Annabeth.
Annabeth sighed. "You didn't have to." She took the tissue paper out of the bag and found a box at the bottom. Annabeth pulled it out, setting the bag on the ground so she could open it. Inside was a large bracelet. One of those really thick ones except it wasn't cheap.
There were diamonds everywhere and one larger diamond in the middle. Piper took it out of her hands and helped her clasp it in. "If you press the larger diamond, it turns into a shield."
"Thank you." Annabeth hugged her friend tightly.
Piper hugged her back. "My best friend's getting married."
"Yeah, I am." Annabeth pulled away. "We should probably go down to the beach. Where's my veil? Seriously, why are we losing everything?"
"Girls, the veil!" Piper shouted and out came Lacy with the veil in her arms. "Thank you." She grabbed it and placed it on Annabeth's head. "Even more beautiful."
A knock sounded from the door and Thalia poked her head inside. "Wedding starts in ten minutes. Annabeth, you've got to get down there." She grimaced. "And don't get cold feet because I put on a dress for you."
Annabeth sighed and Piper gave her a supporting smile. "Here goes nothing."
------
"Annabeth!" She turned around and saw her dad walking toward home. He froze a few feet in front of her. "Wow, you're beautiful, honey."
"Thanks," Annabeth replied and held onto her bouquet made of blue roses so tight her knuckles turned white. "The wedding is about to start."
"Right." He cleared his throat and stood beside her. "You know, Annabeth, I'm not very fond of the idea of you being married so young but if it makes you happy then I'm happy."
"Thanks," Annabeth repeated. It really wasn't his decision at what age she gets married at. Even if her dad had said no to their engagement, they'd still be getting married. He wasn't going to stop them from getting married.
Music started from in front of the curtains they were standing behind and Annabeth's breath caught in her throat. It was almost time. These were her last minutes as a Chase. Soon, she would become a Jackson.
The bridesmaids and groomsmen started going down the aisle two by two.
It felt like just one second and then it was her turn to walk out. The music changed and her dad looped her arm through hers. "Are you ready? You don't have to if you don't want to."
"I'm ready," She said confidently.
The curtains in front of Annabeth were opened all the way and all heads turned in her direction, all eyes were on her. Annabeth took a step forward... then another one.
She met Percy's eyes from the middle of the aisle and noticed the tears in his eyes. One escaped and rolled down his cheek.
Good. She wouldn't have to slap him.
They reached the altar and Frederick placed Annabeth's hand in Percy's muttering, "Take care of her, Percy."
"I will." Percy gave him a firm nod before giving his attention to his soon-to-be wife.
Hera cleared her throat and spoke, "We are gathered here today to join the lives of Perseus Jackson and Annabeth Chase..."
They stopped listening at that point and got lost in each other's eyes.
"Perseus, your vows," Hera said, trying not to sound cold and menacing but soft and warm. It didn't suit her. Annabeth almost preferred her to be rude.
Percy cleared his throat and took both her hands in his. "You must mean a lot to me because I memorized my vows. So, here it goes, Annabeth, I've known you for eight years and dated you for four of them. The best four years of my life. But it feels like I've known you my whole life."
Annabeth nodded in agreement, her eyes already filling with tears.
"The first time I met you, we really saw you, I thought you looked like a princess," He continued. "And right now, you really do look like a princess. Since that moment, I knew we were bound to be something. I didn't know if that meant we were going to be enemies, friends, or lovers."
"Seaweed Brain," Annabeth muttered.
He grinned. "Turns out it was the last one and I've never been more grateful in my whole life. We started dating and my whole life changed for the better. I was happier and when I was... harming myself a couple months after the battle, you told me I mattered and that's when I realized, Annabeth Chase was- is- my lifeline."
Annabeth wiped tears away.
"And I just want to thank you. For staying with me, sticking by my side even though I'm sure it wasn't easy at times. During the times when I was angry, sad, or happy, you were always there," Percy said. "Thank you."
"Anytime," Annabeth whispered.
"And as I stand here right now, I know that I am the luckiest man alive. I get to spend the rest of my life with Annabeth Chase, soon-to-be Jackson. I get to be married to this beautiful, strong, kind woman right here. Raise a family with her and grow old." Percy blinked and a tear rolled down his cheek.
Annabeh wiped it away with her thumb.
"I love you, Wise Girl. I love you so much and I'll never hurt you. I'll never leave you."
Hera even had a hint of a smile on her face. "Annabeth, your vows."
"Wow, Percy. Let's see if I can compete with that," She laughed. "To be honest, I hated you. But I only hated you because our parents hated each other. I thought that meant that we had to hate each other."
Percy rolled his eyes playfully.
"I was so busy trying to make my mother proud that I forgot about your feelings. You made me realize that no matter our parents' history, we didn't have to live in their footsteps," Annabeth said. "We can lead our own life the way we want."
"That's right." Percy nodded.
Annabeth smiled. "I became your friend and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Being your friend was the craziest point in my life for a while. I experienced the life of an average teenage girl, happiness, having crushes, and jealousy."
Percy laughed.
"When Rachel Elizabeth Dare came alone, I couldn't describe the jealousy I was feeling. I thought I was going to lose you.You seemed to have fallen for her and I wanted to scream at Aphrodite for being so unfair."
He caressed her knuckles with his thumbs.
"But, no. You came to your senses when you turned eighteen. I kissed you and we started dating. Now, that is the best decision I've ever made." Annabeth laughed. "It was the best four months of my life. But then you disappeared."
They both gave Hera a side glance.
"I was broken. I didn't know what I was feeling. I think it was a heartbreak. Everyone I've ever loved left me and then you left too. The worst part? I blamed you. I blamed you for your own disappearance, something you couldn't control." Annabeth looked into his eyes. "I'm so sorry."
"It's okay," He whispered back.
Annabeth cleared her throat. "Then you fell into Tartarus for me and that's when I realized that I loved you. That I do love you. More than anything. And I'm the luckiest girl alive because I get to spend the rest of my life with a Seaweed Brain like you."
Percy wiped her tears away.
Hera spoke, "Do you, Perseus Jackson, take Annabeth Chase, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health until death due you apart, to be your lawfully wedded wife?"
Bobby and Matthew came to the altar holding a blue pillow where their rings were sitting.
"I do." Percy smiled and grabbed her rings off the pillow, slipping them into her ring finger. He lifted her hand and kissed them. "I love you."
Hera turned to Annabeth. "Do you, Annabeth Chase, take Perseus Jackson, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health until death due you apart, to be your lawfully wedded husband?"
Annabeth smiled. "I do." She grabbed his ring off the pillow and slipped it onto his ring finger muttering, "I love you."
"Then by the power invested in me because I'm the goddess of marriage, I now pronounce you husband and wife," Hera declared. "Perseus, you may now kiss your bride."
Percy wasted no time by wrapping his arms around Annabeth's waist, pulling her close, and pressing his lips to hers. Annabeth wrapped her arms around his neck, her hands coming up to run through his hair.
This kiss was soft and sweet, filled with so much passion. But it was different. The sparks that ignited everytime they kissed in their stomachs were stronger. Like they were even more in love now than they were just a few minutes ago.
They heard two people clear their throats in the cheering crowd. Probably their parents, Poseidon and Athena but that didn't stop them. It was their wedding kiss, you only get one of those and their parents weren't going to stop that.
After a couple minutes, they pulled away from each other and turned toward the crowd with their hands clasped. Piper stepped up onto the altar and handed Annabeth back her bouquet of blue roses.
Grover stood up on a chair and shouted, "Who wants some cake?"
The reception was held in the pavilion. The newly wedded couple stood before their large cake, waiting to cut it. "Percy, I've got a surprise for you." She grabbed the knife and handed it to him.
Percy raised an eyebrow and grabbed onto it, her hand on top of his. They cut the cake and the first slice fell onto a plate.
Percy gasped. "It's blue!" He set the knife down, wrapped his arms around her, and spun her around. "I love you!" He kissed her and everyone cheered.
"I love you too."
Once the cake was passed around to everyone, Percy and Annabeth went over to their table in the front of the pavilion and sat down. Percy seemed more interested in his cake than anything else making Annabeth laugh.
"What?" Percy asked, mouth full of cake.
Annabeth shrugged, smiling softly. "Nothing."
Their eyes shifted to the middle of the pavilion where grover stood, holding up a glass of sparkling lemon water. "I would like to say a thing or two for the newly weds."
The pavilion grew silent.
"When we were younger, I never thought you two would be where you are today. If I was being honest, I thought Percy wasn't going to still be alive. But no, these two stared death right in the eyes and told him no." Grover shook his head. "And now you two are going to have a wonderful life together and I'm so glad you guys are my best friends."
People clapped around the pavilion while the couple just smiled warmly.
Thalia stood. "I would like to say a couple things too. First of all, ew. This all is kind of gross. My cousin and best friend, who's like my sister, are married and who knows what they're gonna do after tonight. But anyway, I wish you a happy marriage." She sat back down.
Annabeth stuck her tongue out. Real mature.
"Oh my gods," Piper said as she stood in the middle, wiping tears out of her eyes. "I'm so happy for the two of you. I remember the day I met you, Annabeth, and since then you've been the bestest friend anyone could ever ask for. You'll make an amazing wife and hopefully we'll get some little Jacksons running around soon."
Percy and Annabeth blushed.
"Anyway," Piper said. "I think it's time for Percy and Annabeth to have their first dance as husband and wife." She sat down in her chair and gestured for them to go onto the dance floor. Well, the dance floor was surrounded by all the tables so really, it was just the center of the pavilion.
Percy stood and offered his hand to Annabeth. "May I have this dance, Wise Girl?"
Annabeth laughed and took it. "So cheesy. Of course."
They made their way out into the middle, an Apollo camper immediately playing a slow song to dance to. Annabeth wrapped her arms around his neck and went around her waist as they swayed to the music.
"Did I tell you how beautiful you look?" Percy whispered into her ear.
Annabeth grinned against his shoulder. "I think so but you could remind me."
"You look absolutely stunning." Percy kissed the side of her head. "And I can't believe you're mine forever."
Annabeth lifted her head and smiled teasingly. "I was yours forever a long time ago."
"I know that but now it's official." Percy said and leaned down to kiss her. He pulled away after a couple minutes and touched their foreheads. "I love you so much."
"I love you too," Annabeth whispered.
They danced for a few more songs, holding each other tight and loving every moment of it. Everything was just so perfect at the moment and Annabeth knew if anything happened to ruin it, she was going to lose it.
Other demigods and mortals started to join them. Even though Annabeth didn't want to let Percy go, he needed to go dance with his mom. Her eyes were puffy like she had been crying which she probably was.
In the meantime, Annabeth went to get something to drink. She grabbed a glass of sparkling water off one of the clothed tables and took a sip. Her and Percy, while making the wedding plans, decided on no alcohol unless children of Dionysus brought it.There was no stopping those campers.
"Annabeth!" Thalia exclaimed and gave her a side hug. "I'm proud of you."
"Thank you." Annabeth returned the hug. "How have you been?"
"Oh, no, no. This isn't about me. This is your night, it's all about you and Percy. So, how are you?" Thalia asked her, grabbing a glass of water off the table.
"I'm great." Annabeth smiled. "I can't believe I'm married." She peered down at her wedding rings.
Thalia laughed softly. "I can't believe it either. Um, but keep it a couple years until there's a little human inside of you." She made a face of disgust.
Annabeth shrugged. "When it happens, it happens. Actually, we haven't really talked about it. Yeah, years ago we talked about kids like if we wanted any or how many we wanted but then it just stopped."
"Do you want to start a family with Seaweed Brain?" Thalia joked.
"Yeah." Annabeth glanced over at Percy who was laughing at something his mom said. "Not a big one thought. Maybe two or three kids. And don't worry, Thalia, it won't happen for a while."
She breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank gods because that's nasty."
Annabeth opened her mouth to reply but decided against it. "Mhm."
"Annabeth!" Piper exclaimed and hugged her around the shoulders from behind. "How's Mrs. Jackson doing?"
Thalia laughed and left them alone, going over to another table to tease Nico.
"Mrs. Jackson is doing well," Annabeth joked back and turned around, hugging her friend. "I think I'm still in shock."
"Ah, yes." Piper pulled away and tugged on one of Annabeth's curls. "Shock. It will go away eventually. I'm so happy for you I could cry. Percabeth is finally married!"
"Yup." Annabeth felt a tap on her shoulder and turned around. Her dad was standing there, a small smile on his face, and his hand outstretched toward her. She raised an eyebrow.
"Am I not allowed to dance with my daughter?" Frederick asked.
Annabeth bit her lip and grabbed her hand. She'd rather dance with Paul because she knew she was about to get talked to. "Yeah, sure." She grabbed his hand and let him pull her onto the dance floor.
"How's it feel to be married? Any doubts?" He asked her as they began to sway.
"No, no doubts Dad. I know you think twenty is too young to be married but if you've been through what Percy and I have you'd understand." Annabeth grit her teeth. "And we were dating for four years."
Frederick nodded with pursed lips. "Two years I didn't even know you had a boyfriend."
"I already apologized for that," Annabeth said.
"You're also still in college," Frederick pointed out.
Annabeth sighed. "Why can't you just be happy for me? Is that so hard? I'm your only daughter who just got married and instead of being happy, you're making me feel bad about marrying the boy I love?"
"I am happy for you," Frederick tried to reason. "I just don't want you to be heartbroken in the future. Study shows that people who get married young are most likely to fall apart."
"Yeah, like seventeen year olds. Not twenty year olds. Plus, Percy and I won't get a divorce, we've been dating for four years, like I said," Annabeth said and let go of his hand. "Don't ruin my big night."
Frederick nodded and let him go.
The songs switched to more upbeat. Annabeth found Percy standing in a circle of their friends, talking and dancing. Which was a normal sight to see at a wedding but it still amused Annabeth. Their friends were terrible dancers.
"Hey!" Annabeth exclaimed and ducked under Percy's arm.
Hazel waved. "Congratulations!"
"Thanks." Gods that girl was so sweet.
Percy unwrapped his arm from around Annabeth's shoulders and grabbed both of their hands, moving them back and forth between them. "Don't just stand there, Wise Girl. We had this talk a long time ago. Gotta loosen up! Remember?"
Annabeth laughed. "Yeah, I remember."
In her vows, she mentioned that dating Percy was the best decision she'd ever made. Well, scratch that. Marrying Percy was the best decision she ever made.
