Sick

A remake of my first one-shot. I want to see how much I've improved and you guys get to tell me!

Annabeth stepped inside the Blofis-Jackson apartment on a cold February afternoon. She shuddered as the sudden warmth hit her exposed skin on her face, her eyes watering. Snowflakes glittered on her blonde curls, slowly thawing, causing her hair to dampen. She shut the door and pulled off her coat, hanging it on the coat hanger. Annabeth pulled her wet converse off and placed them on the rug.

"Sally?" She called out into the quiet apartment, her voice a little nasally because of her stuffed nose.

A woman with brown hair and kind blue eyes appeared in the doorway that lead you to the kitchen. "Annabeth! What a wonderful surprise!" She exclaimed, a streak of flour smeared across her forehead. "Come in!"

Annabeth smiled gently at her boyfriend's mom before stepping inside the living room and sitting down on the blue couch. "You don't mind me-" She sneezed. "Coming over, do you?"

Sally frowned. "No, of course not." She placed the back of her hand against Annabeth's warm forehead. "You're burning up! Do you feel alright?"

Annabeth shook her head, leaning back against the couch as she loosened her tie that was part of her school uniform. "No, my head hurts, I'm congested, freezing, achy, and I just feel like Hades."

"You poor girl." Sally stood from her kneeling position. "Why didn't you call me to come pick you up earlier today?" She handed Annabeth a Kleenex box.

Annabeth shrugged. "I'm a Daughter of Athena; school comes first."

"Alright, well, let me get you some comfy clothes so you can get out of that awful uniform," Sally said, staring intently at her blue and white uniform that was pretty uncomfortable right now. A skirt and sweater was not winter weather clothes.

Annabeth smirked. "Percy likes it." Sally rolled her eyes playfully, walking out of the living room and down the hallway. She came back a few minutes, carrying some sweatpants and one of Percy's blue hoodies. Annabeth took the items of clothing gratefully and headed to the bathroom to change. The sweatpants were a bit big but she just tightened the waistband and rolled them up down by the ankles. Annabeth slipped the blue hoodie over her head, she could still smell Percy's ocean scent with a stuffed nose.

"Better?" Sally asked Annabeth after she set her uniform on Percy's bed. Annabeth nodded, blowing her nose into a tissue, and throwing it away. "I put a pillow and blanket on the couch for you, Honey."

Annabeth smiled. "Thanks. When will Percy be home?"

Sally glanced at the clock on the stove. "Not for another half hour."

Annabeth sighed and started walking out of the kitchen. "Okay." She unfolded the fuzzy grey blanket, laying down on the couch, and covered herself with the blanket. The sound of Sally bustling about and whistling lulled Annabeth to sleep.

-----

Percy stepped out of the car and into the freezing cold air, stinging his face. He had been at swim practice for two hours while Paul had an after school meeting. Percy tiredly strode into the apartment building with Paul not too far behind, up the stairs, and into the apartment.

He set his backpack down then hung up his coat, noticing the grey jacket that was already there. He immediately recognized it as Annabeth's winter jacket and he instantly perked up. Percy quickly slipped off his shoes and ran into the living room, his smile fading as he saw his girlfriend sleeping on the couch, curled into a ball, and looking rather pale. "Mom?" He called. "Is Annabeth okay?"

"Yes, she's just got some sort of flu." Sally called back to him from the kitchen. Percy made an 'O' shape with his mouth before going to quickly change into some sweatpants and a hoodie. He walked quickly back into the living room after saying 'hello' to his mom. Percy knelt down in front of Annabeth and pressed his lips to the crease between her eyebrows as she whimpered out his name. He pulled a curl behind her ear. "Sh, Wise Girl," He soothed, stroking her cheek with his thumb lightly. "You're okay."

Beads of sweat started to appear on her forehead and she whimpered again, this time saying, 'No'. Her face scrunched up in pain as she started to silently cry. "No, please. Not Percy!" She murmured in pain.

Percy placed his hands on her shoulders and gently shook her, trying to snap her out of the nightmare she was having. "Annabeth, I'm right here." He explained in a soft whisper. "I'm here and I'm not leaving."

Annabeth stopped whimpering and her eyes snapped open. "Percy!" She cried out, reaching for his arms and gripping them tightly. She breathed heavily as Percy placed a curl behind her ear again,  holding his fingers on her jaw for an extra second.

"Annabeth, look, I'm right here," Percy comforted. "I'm here." He placed his lips against her burning forehead.

She placed her hands on his shoulders and pushed him away slowly. "I don't feel well," She mumbled, standing up, and rushing to the bathroom. Percy stood and followed his sick girlfriend. As he neared the bathroom her heard retching noises coming from the other side of the door and he instinctively winced. He knocked lightly on the door. "I'm sick. Go away."

"It's just me." Percy sighed, opening the door slowly. Annabeth was leaning against the toilet, breathing heavily. Percy knelt behind her and pulled her hair back as she threw up once again. "Let it out, it's alright." She took a deep breath and slumped against his chest, wiping her mouth on his sweatshirt.

She must have noticed because she grimaced. "Sorry."

He shrugged and stood up. "It's alright." He reached his hands out in which she grabbed and he pulled her up. He caught her around the waist after she swayed and placed a hand against her forehead. "Here." He bent down and picked her up bridal style, carrying her to the couch where he laid her down. Percy quickly sauntered into the kitchen and grabbed the trash can, setting it down beside Annabeth.

"Thanks." She murmured, eyes half closed. He smiled and draped the blanket over her, and started walking to the kitchen when she suddenly sat up. She reached her hands out and made grabbing motions with them which he found adorable. She only let him see this side of her; vulnerable and needy. "Percy, don't leave me." Percy trudged back over to her and knelt down in front of his girlfriend, wrapping his arms around her tightly. She leaned into him, clutching his hoodie in her fists as she crushed herself against him, resting her head on his shoulder. "Will you lay with me?"

"Yeah, of course." he replied, letting go of her and laying down on the far side of the couch, against the back rest. Annabeth laid down and pressed her back against his chest, taking the position of the little spoon. Percy wrapped his left arm around her waist and she laced their fingers together. "I love you."

"Love you, too," She said sleepily, squeezing their interlocked hands. Percy buried his face in the crook of her neck and the two demigods who were in love drifted off into a deep sleep.

----

Percy woke to someone shaking his shoulder. He slowly opened his eyes, lifting his head to look at the person who woke him. His mom stood there with a warm smile on her face. "Hey, Sweetie. Dinner's done."

He glanced down at Annabeth who was still sleeping. "I'll wait for her to wake up," He told his mom. "Can you hand me the remote, though, please?" Sally handed him the remote before going back to the kitchen.

Percy surfed through the channels until he picked a random TV show to watch. He felt Annabeth stir and he tightened his grip on her. She flipped around, throwing an arm over his waist, and resting her head against his chest. "Hi."

Percy cracked a smile and ran his fingers through her hair. "Hey, how'd you sleep?"

She shrugged. "Good, I guess." Percy twirled a blonde curl around his finger. "Kind of hungry, though."

Percy sat up much to Annabeth's disappointment. "I'll go get us something to eat." She nodded and laid back down, redirecting her attention to the TV. Percy trudged over to the kitchen and smiled at his mom and step-dad, Paul.

"How's she feeling?" Paul asked, concerned.

"She's got the stomach bug but she's been through worse." He stated, rummaging through the cabinets until he found two bowls and a box of saltine crackers. He put about five crackers in one of the bowls and some of his mom's homemade chicken noodle soup into the other bowl. He got back to the living room and handed Annabeth the bowl of crackers, keeping the soup for himself.

Annabeth sat up, sitting next to him and frowned. "Can I have a bite? It smells really good." She swallowed a bite of a cracker. "All I get are crackers."

Percy scoffed. "Be lucky you even get anything besides, you're sick!"

She pouted. "C'mon, Percy! Please?" After an intense staring contest, he relented, scooping some soup onto his spoon. He thrust the spoon towards her face and she ate the soup gratefully. "Thanks."

"Yup." He grinned as she leaned her head against his shoulder. "If I get sick, you're taking car of me and I warn you, when I'm sick, I act like a toddler."

"Oh, alright, Seaweed Brain." Annabeth laughed...then sneezed.

"Gross!" Percy jokingly exclaimed and Annabeth slapped his arm.

The End.

Have I improved?
