Rewrite of Hurt

Sorry, I know I've been writing a lot of rewrites. I've just been rereading my stuff and feel the need to rewrite them so they're less confusing and flow more smoothly.
I promised I'm rewriting one more and then I'll probably be done and continue with new ones.
I'll have a couple new ones posted on my Life Goes On one shots soon!

Annabeth had just turned nineteen the day prior. Percy had taken her out to eat for lunch then they came back to Camp Half-blood and spent the rest of the day cuddled up watching movies in his cabin. No one said anything about their absence which she was grateful for.

Secretly, Annabeth was hoping that Percy would have popped the question yesterday but he didn't. She knew they were young, still in their teens but after what they'd been through and how long they'd been dating she didn't care.

She was certain that she wanted to marry this boy. Anyday at any time she would be ready. Even if they went up to Olympus in sweatpants and sweatshirts to get married, she didn't care. Annabeth just wanted to spend the rest of her life with him.

Little did Annabeth know that her future with Percy would be threatened drastically within a couple hours.

It was a sunny and peaceful day at Camp Half-Blood. Things had been quiet since the Giant War, very few monster attacks and very few new campers which meant less quests the gods had to send them on.

At the moment, Percy and Annabeth were laying in bed, on their sides since they woke up just seconds ago. Annabeth's arm was thrown over his waist, tapping her fingers against his back while his arm was under her head, her cheek pressed against his bicep. His other arm was over her waist, his fingers drawing lazy circles on her back.

Still in a stupor, Annabeth yawned and promptly sneezed after that, forgetting to cover her mouth. She grimaced when Percy's head instinctively backed away. "Ew, sorry."

"It's alright," Percy chuckled quietly and kissed her cheek. "You know I love you, right?"

"Yes." Annabeth felt her heart speed up. "I love you too."

Percy lifted his arm from around her and placed his hand on her cheek, his thumb softly stroking her cheekbone. "You're so beautiful."

Annabeth hummed and decided to question something. "Percy? Where do you see us in a year or two?" She was really curious? What she wanted to get married, wanted them to be official.

"I see us broken up, going our separate ways, and never talking again," He said dead serious, not breaking eye contact.

Okay, that was not what she was expecting at all. "Is that how you really feel?" She sat up and crossed her arms over her chest. "Because I had a whole different idea."

"Gods, no." Percy opened his arms and she fell right into them, burying her face in his shoulder and breathing in his ocean scent. "No, I see us maybe married."

Annabeth lifted her head and crashed her lips to his. He responded eagerly, burning his hands in her hair and praising her lips with every kiss he gave her. They pulled away and she just laid her head back down on his chest and closed her eyes.

An urgent knock sounded from the door.

"I'll get it." Annabeth rolled over Percy and strode over to the door, opening it.

Grover, who was on the other side, did not hesitate to tell her the latest news. "Camp is under attack! I repeat, Camp is under attack!" He bleated, turned around, and galloped away.

"Funny joke, Grover!" Annabeth called out to him. She rolled her eyes and shut the door, making her way back to Percy who was facing away from her. He was looking out the window. Shrugging, Annabeth came up behind him and wrapped her arms around his shoulders and kissed his neck. "What's up?"

"Grover wasn't joking." He pointed out the window. "Look."

Sure enough, campers were crowded on Half-Blood Hill. Some held swords, others spears and daggers. They all seemed to be fighting off another large crowd; monsters.

Annabeth felt her eyes prick with tears, It had been so peaceful. It was even close to perfect and on the day she planned spending with her boyfriend was ruined because monsters were still apparently out for their blood.

"Annabeth, we have to go." Percy shook her shoulder and already had riptide in his hands.

Blinking away tears that threatened to fall, Annabeth got off the bed, grabbed her dagger off the bedside table and followed Percy up to Half-Blood Hill.

"Oh my gods," Percy whispered as they got to the battle feild.

Demigods, all around them, were fighting for their lives. Some were already lifeless on the ground. New campers. Annabeth's heart ached. She recognized a fourteen year old boy that only got there last week, lying on the ground with a fatal wound in his left leg.

She knew she could do nothing about it. Putting a brave face on, Annabeth ran into battle with Percy right behind her.

They clashed and slashed, stabbed, and scraped. They did everything to protect their family, their home. Monsters came left and right, up and down. Some were more vicious and aggressive than others.

Annabeth fought with everything she had in her, a look of pure rage painted onto her face. She was more than angry, she was absolutely furious. What right did these creatures have ruining and ending the lives of half-bloods? No one deserved it. Especially her, after all she's been through.

She heard a shout from behind her, warning to duck. Annabeth fell to the ground right as a fire ball was thrown in her direction.  Annabeth picked herself off the grassy ground and hurled her dagger at the nearest monster. It hit an Empousa right in the chest, turning to golden dust immediately.

Quickly, she picked up her dagger and looked around. Most demigods were still standing, some laid still on the ground, chests unmoving. Blood covered the ground, the sound of swords against sheils or talons filled ears all around.

This battle was far from done.

Annabeth let out a war cry and stabbed yet another monster in the back. The horrid creature let out a screech before turning to gold dust. Annabeth grabbed her dagger and forced it into the rib cage of a Dracanae.

"Daughter of Athena," It hissed before evaporating.

She was about to go help out a new camper when a familiar cry of pain reached her ears. Her heart stopped. Everything turned to slow motion. Her breathing slowed. The only thing moving fast was her.

She raced through the maze of demigods, in search of one person. She shouted for people to move, screamed for people to get out of her way. Annabeth found her boyfriend laying on the grass in a fetal position, bloody hands covering his stomach, blood on the ground next to him.

"No," Annabeth muttered and dropped to her knees next to him. This couldn't be how they end, he couldn't die! Not now when everything between them was perfect. She grabbed one of his hands, blood now on her hands.

The clashes around her slowly stopped and cheers erupted. They had won the battle but that didn't matter to Annabeth at that time. Percy was laying in front of her, fighting for his life and there was nothing she could do about it.

"Don't you dare close your eyes, Percy Jackson," She demanded when he started to blink slowly. She raised her voice, "Someone get a stretcher! Now!"

Will Solace was immediately at her side, lips pursed, and a crease between his eyebrows. He took in the sight, the blood and the wound, trying to figure out a way to heal him. He shook his head and helped carry him onto the stretcher.

They started to roll Percy down the hill and Annabeth was about to follow when someone grabbed her arm. She whipped around so fast that her hair washed her face but she didn't care. Ripping her arm out of Malcom's grasp, she said, "Don't you dare try to hold me back."

She ran the fastest she's ever ran and entered the infirmary. All the beds were full with wounded campers, some minor and some major. One kid, a daughter of Iris only had three limbs left. Annabeth swallowed down some upcoming bile and finally spotted Percy.

"Will you be able to heal him?" She asked urgently, grabbing Percy's hand instantly.

Will sighed and handed her a damp washcloth. "Please clean his hands."

Annabeth did just that, wiping all the crusty blood off. "You didn't answer my question." She set the now bloody cloth on the ground next to the bed. She wanted to cry at the sight of Percy. He looked terrible, almost pale as a sheet.

He opened his eyes, not by much, and glanced at her. "Nabeth," He croaked.

"I'm here." She moved closer to the bed, practically sitting at the edge and ran her hands through his hair. "You're going to be okay." She kissed his forehead.

"Annabeth," Will started. "You do know that there's a great possibility that he might-"

"I know!" She snapped. "Please just try."

Will nodded and grabbed a scissors, cutting through Percy's blue shirt and Annabeth helped pull it off. He gasped at the wound and Annabeth cried out. It wasn't just a stab wound, there was poison too. The skin around the wound sizzled and bubbled, it was also burnt.

Annabeth was pushed away from the bed but she was too frozen to care. A stab wound alone could be fixed but poison added to it? That was almost impossible. With her eyes set on Percy's bed, she watched as all the Apollo kids surrounded him, shouting and handing tools to each other.

"Please, please, Lord Apollo," She prayed, staring up at the ceiling. "Please heal him."

She could hear the beeping of the heart monitor, cracking sounds (she wasn't sure what that was from) and shouts. A single tear slipped down her cheek but she quickly brushed it away, embarrassed. Her boyfriend may be in mortal danger but Annabeth Chase doesn't cry.

"No!" Annabeth practically screamed when she heard the heart monitor flatline. She tried to get between the Apollo kids but Kayla held her back. "Let me through."

Kayla shook her head and hugged Annabeth. "No, let Will do his thing. He's trying as hard as we can. No one wants him to die, Annabeth but if that's what the fates want, then there's no getting out of it."

Annabeth peeked over Kayla's shoulder. Will was currently doing CPR, chest compressions. Her eyes shifted to Percy's face. Pasty white, eyes closed, no sign of life. She sobbed and buried her face in Kayla's shoulder.

"Apollo, Dad, please, for the sake of Annabeth..." Kayla muttered almost inaudibly while she stroked Annabeth's soft blonde curls. "Please."

Will's voice cut through the silence. "Annabeth it's your call when we stop doing this. So far, I'm sorry, but he's not waking up anytime soon."

She cried harder, hugging Kayla tighter.

Kayla gave him a look that said: keep going. Do whatever it takes.

He nodded. "Get the shocks ready! Okay... ready.... One...two...three.. Shock."

Percy's body jerked upwards and Annabeth averted her eyes.

Will positioned his hands and started CPR again. "One...two...three...four..."

"We've got a heart beat!" An Apollo kids shouted. "Breathing is shallow but he's alive!"

Annabeth lifted her head, unwrapping her arms from around Kayla. "I-is he stable?" Her hands shook at her sides, she clenched her fists but that didn't stop them.

"Hard to say." Will inserted a nasal breathing cannula into Percy's nose. "He should be but no one knows for sure. We'll give him some ambrosia and nectar while we finish stitching him up."

"Maybe try water too," Annabeth suggested as she knelt down beside Percy, stroking his black hair lovingly. She leaned her head against his.

Will nodded and did just that. Soon enough, the wound closed and all that was left were burn marks and a scar. Will wrapped him up in gauze and cloth. "Now he's stable. I don't know when he'll wake up though. Hopefully soon."

"And if he doesn't?" Annabeth asked, scared for the answer.

"If he doesn't wake up in the next few hours then he's probably in a coma and then really who knows when he'll wake up." He noticed how she was barely paying any attention to me but was busy whispering to Percy and kissing his cheek. "We'll leave you two alone."

Annabeth kissed Percy's cheek again, the once warm skin was now cold against her lips. "Percy? Seaweed Brain? Can you wake up? Please, for me?"

Nothing.

"Why do you always put yourself in danger, Seaweed Brain?" She leaned down and laid her forehead against his hair. "One day, you're going to die saving the world and you're going to leave me here, alone."

He shifted underneath her and suddenly a hand wrapped around her arm, pulling her down to the eye lever. Percy was staring at her, tired eyes and a small smile. "I won't leave you," He groaned. "I'll stick around to annoy you more, don't worry."

Annabeth let out something between a laugh and a sob, gently throwing her arms around him to make sure she doesn't hurt him. "I- I thought I was going to lose you!"

"I'm still here," Percy muttered and wrapped an arm around her back. "And I'm not leaving."

Annabeth sniffled and stood up when he shivered underneath her. "I brought you some clothes."

"Comfy clothes?"

"Yes," She zipped open the bag she brought and pulled out a pair of black sweatpants and a blue swim hoodie. Annabeth slipped the hoodie over his head, helping him pull his arms through the sleeves, careful not to hurt him. "Can I help you put these on?" She held up the sweatpants.

"Yeah." Percy pushed the blankets aside so Annabeth could slip his shorts off and replace them with the sweatpants. She patted his hip once he was fully clothed and pulled the blankets back over him. "Thank you."

"Anytime." She kissed his cheek.

Percy leaned back against the pillow. "I'm such an idiot."

"Why do you say that?" Annabeth raked her fingers through his hair.

"I got stabbed. I almost died because I turned away from the battle for one second to check on you. To make sure you were okay and unharmed. Next thing I knew there was a dagger in my stomach."

Annabeth laughed quietly. "How'd I get tangled up with a guy like you?"

"I don't know but you're pretty lucky."

"I love you." She kissed him.

Percy buried his hand in her curls. "I love you."

His side hurt like Hades but as long as Percy had Annabeth, he'd be okay.
