Braiding Hair

Just some Percabeth fluff and playful banters.

Percy brushed the blonde curls away from his girlfriend's face. She was all snuggled up beside him in his bed, reading a book contently. "Can I braid your hair?"

"What?" Annabeth tore her eyes away from the Ancient Greek words and smiled up at him. "You? Braid? That's funny, Seaweed Brain."

"No, seriously! I can braid."

"Yeah, and I'm Zeus." Thunder rumbled outside and Annabeth rolled her eyes.

"Please?" He tried for the baby seal eyes. "I'm bored."

Annabeth sighed and went back to her book. "Then sleep."

That's actually what they intended to do but ended up just laying in bed awake. It was a Friday afternoon and they had just gotten out of school about an hour ago, they were exhausted. Finals week was finally over, all they wanted to do was rest.

They had gotten home, ate a quick snack, and headed up to Percy's room where they changed out of their uniforms and into sweatpants and sweatshirts. They'd snuggled up under the covers and tried to get some shut eye.

Well, obviously that didn't happen. As soon as Annabeth shut her eyes images of Percy being taken away from her in Tartarus flashed through her head and the screams of him filled her ears. She unwrapped herself from him and settled for reading a book, that book resting on his arm wrapped around her waist.

Percy wanted to sleep. What was keeping him awake? Unnecessary guilt. The guilt of falling asleep when Annabeth wasn't able to sleep because of nightmares. He felt bad, which he shouldn't (she told him that), and stayed awake with her. But, he got bored.

"You know I can't. I told you that."

"Percy, it's fine." Annabeth once again looked up from her book and met his seagreen eyes. "Go to sleep, I don't mind. You're adorable when you're sleeping-" She smirked. "-all that drool."

"Okay!" Percy covered her mouth with his hand. "Let's not talk about drool."

Annabeth laughed. "Just stating facts."

Percy snorted. "What else is new?"

"Hey!" She slapped his chest playfully.

"But it's true," Percy said and hugged her tighter.

"Well, I can't spit out random facts when you're hugging me to death and I'm also trying to read. Stop annoying me," Annabeth joked with a smile still plastered on her face.

Percy pouted and unwrapped his arm from around her. "Fine, I won't love you. You can read your precious book since you seem so much more interested in it than your nice, loving, attractive, hot boyfriend."

Annabeth chuckled. "Thank you."

"Yup- wait!" Percy gasped in mock hurt. "That's not what you were supposed to say! I was hoping for a, 'awe, Percy! You're so sweet. I love you so much and I'll snuggle with you'." He imitated her voice poorly.

"You're an idiot," Annabeth said. "And I do not sound like that."

"Yes, you do."

"No, no I don't."

"Fine but I'm not kidding about braiding your hair. Please? Can I?" Percy asked again, hoping that she'd say the more positive answer.

Annabeth looked up at him exasperatedly. "Will you leave me alone if I let you?"

"Okay...totally not the answer I was expecting." Percy frowned. "But sure."

"Great!" She shut her book and sat up, moving up the bed so there was room for him behind her. "Work your magic...if you have that."

Percy sat up as well. "Ha-ha. Very funny, Wise Girl."

"You love me." Annabeth smiled because she knew it was true.

"Unfortunately." Percy pulled the hair tie out. Her blonde curls fell from the messy bun on the top of her head and tumbled over her shoulders.

Annabeth's mouth dropped open, though the corner of her lips twitched up. She whipped her head around to look at him. "Why'd I ever get together with you?"

"Because you love me." Percy smiled cheekily.

"Unfortunately." Annabeth mocked in a deep voice with a roll of her eyes.

Percy laughed and whacked her shoulder lightly. "Rude."

"You said it first!"

"Oh shut up," Percy sarcastically said. "But, yeah, I really do love you."

Annabeth nodded. "Well that's good to know."

"What about me? Do you love me?" Percy whined and separated her hair into three parts.

"Yes, Percy," She answered and turned to grab her book.

Percy groaned. "You messed it up!"

Annabeth snickered. "Sorry."

Percy mumbled under his breath about annoying thickheaded girlfriends while he parted her hair again, making sure she didn't mess it up. Very carefully, he started to overlap the strands of hair.

"Ow!" She exclaimed and grabbed the back of her head when he yanked on a knot. "Kelp-Head!"

"Sorry," He apologized and continued braiding.

"Are you sure you know what you're doing?" Annabeth asked, still looking down at her book but she wasn't really reading.

"Are you doubting me?" Percy asked.

Annabeth snickered. "Maybe."

"Annabeth," He whined. "You're supposed to have faith in me."

"You're braiding my hair...not saving the world."

"I've done that too."

"Don't get a big head now," Annabeth said sternly.

Percy rolled his eyes. "Me? A big head? No way."

Annabeth shook her head. He was ridiculous, being so sarcastic and wanting to braid her hair even though she knew he couldn't do hair. But, she liked to make fun of him (he didn't mind) and this was a perfect opportunity.

"Did I tell you that we did an experiment on a gold fish today? Well, we did and I talked to him. He wanted to get out and not be put into different water temperatures," He told her as he was finishing up her braid.

"Oh yeah? What did you do about it?" She was expecting something dorky.

"I may or may not have made a small water bubble that the fish went in- oh! His name is Carl. Then I asked to go to the bathroom and flushed him down the toilet. Don't worry! Carl told me to do that."

"Seaweed Brain! That's why you got an F?" She wasn't really mad but she wanted to play with him a bit. What? It was funny!

Percy rubbed the back of his neck. "Uh, yeah- wait. How'd you know I got an F?"

"I have my ways." Annabeth shrugged.

"Of course you do." He kissed the back of her head.

"But, Percy, you need to start focusing in school. Do you want a good future? That's the first step. Warm and cold water isn't going to kill a fish."

"Annabeth, but Carl told me-"

"Carl is the reason why you got an F."

"He was unhappy," Percy retorted.

Annabeth sighed. "Please, just try to get good grades."

"Why?" Percy narrowed his eyes at the back of her head as he tied the hair tie around her braid. "Am I an embarrassment? Not everyone can be a know-it-all, Wise Girl."

"I am not a know-it-all," Annabeth muttered defensively.

Percy laughed. "You know you are! But that's okay because you're my know-it-all."

"I don't belong to anyone." She smirked.

"What? But you're mine, Annabeth." Percy placed another kiss on the back of her head.

Annabeth turned around since he was done and faced him. "I know I am. And you're mine." She pecked his lips.

"Good. By the way, your braid is done." Percy looked so proud of himself.

"Well, I'm going to go check it out." She hopped off the bed and crossed the room, stepping over dirty (and clean) clothes and random objects. She'd have to clean his room later. Pushing open the bathroom door that was installed in Percy's room, she looked at herself in the mirror.

Percy called out to her, "How'd I do?"

Annabeth laughed and fingered the braid. "You call this thing a braid?!"

"Hey! I think I did a good job."

"It's like- I don't even know how to explain it." Annabeth made a face at her hair. The braid was twisted in weird ways and was not very neat, at all. It really showed that Percy Jackson would never become a hairstylist.

"Well, your curls don't help!" Percy said smugly.

Annabeth laughed again for like the millionth time that day. She was the happiest when she was with him, couldn't keep a smile off her face or stop a laugh from escaping her lips when she was around him. "How'd this take you so long?"

"You kept moving your head." Percy shrugged and his eyes instantly brightened when she came back into the room. Annabeth sat back down on the bed in front of Percy and threw her arms around him. "Hello there."

"I love you," Annabeth said against his chest.

Percy hugged her back. "I love you too."
Annabeth moved out of his arms and crawled back under the covers. "Come lay with me, knucklehead."

"That's a new one," Percy commented as he slid under the blankets beside her. She snuggled against him, wrapping her arms around his waist and her legs intertwined with his. "Do you want to watch something?"

"Sure." She grabbed the remote out of his hands and turned the TV on, surfing through the channels.

Percy groaned and buried his face in her pillow when she clicked on a documentary about Architecture. "Not another one!"

"It's not that bad, Percy," Annabeth noted. "It's educational. Good for the brain."

"Maybe for a daughter of Athena." Percy smirked. "I'm not about the smart life."

Annabeth shook her head slightly. "Clearly."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"Percy! You flushed your experiment down the toilet!" She laughed, hard, finding it hilarious now that she already scolded him.

"Excuse me, he was a goldfish. Not an experiment." Percy pushed her arms away from him and turned the other way, his back to her. "Now, I am going to sleep."

Annabeth leaned over him and ran a hand over his hair. "Awe, are you mad now?"

"Very," He replied with his eyes closed.

"Sure you are," She sarcastically said.

"I am very mad." Percy opened his eyes and glared. "I'm serious, Annabeth."

Annabeth grinned and traced her finger up and down his arm. "Mhm."

"I really am!" Percy fought.

"No you're not." She kissed his cheek. "You can't stay mad at me. You know that."

Percy sighed and rolled back around. "I hate when you're right."

"Then you must hate me a lot." She snuggled back against him.

"I take that back." Percy wrapped his arms around her and kissed her forehead. "I love when you're right."

Annabeth hummed. "You must love me a lot."

"I do. It scares me sometimes you know." Percy leaned his head against hers. "How much I love you. It's scary. I'm worried that one day I'll lose you."

"That will never happen." Annabeth reached up and stroked his cheek with her thumb. "You're stuck with me. Sorry."

Percy laughed. "Bummer. No, but seriously, I love you and I never want to lose you. Ever."

Annabeth stared into his eyes and realized how serious he really was. "You won't lose me. Unless I die but I won't willingly leave you for some other douchebag."

"Don't joke about you dying." He squeezed his eyes shut and buried his face in her hair. "Please don't. I dream about it enough."

She frowned. "I'm sorry. Anyway, you're an idiot!"

"Why?" Percy lifted his head.

"You flushed the damn fish down the toilet!" Annabeth slid her hand from his cheek and around his neck so she could play with his hair.

"We're still on this topic? Can't we move on! I'm sorry, okay?"

"I'm joking, Percy." She kissed him.

"Wise Girl, you know I can't help it when sea animals need help."

"But flushing a fish down the toilet at school? The fish they buy at like a pet store? You do know that they die in like two weeks right?" Annabeth regretted saying that because the look on his face was complete heartbreak.

"No." Percy shook his head. "You are lying."

Annabeth pursed her lips. "No, I'm not lying."

"But Carl told me-" His eyes began to fill with tears.

"Percy!" Annabeth laughed/whimpered, she wasn't really sure, maybe both. "Don't cry! It's a fish!"

Percy pouted and blinked the tears away. "Exactly."

She traced his warbling lip with her finger. "Stop that. You're making me feel bad."

"As you should."

"For telling the truth?" Annabeth raised an eyebrow. "For making you realize how stupid you were today?"

"You're hurting my feelings, Annabeth."

"Oh, I'm sorry. It's a big blow to your ego isn't it?"

Percy gaped at his girlfriend. "That was low."

"Sorry." Annabeth kissed him one more time before dropping the subject and turning her attention to the TV.

"You're forgiven." Percy sank deeper into the bed, closed his eyes, and soon he was asleep.

Annabeth rolled her eyes when she saw that he was drooling on her shoulder. Oh well. More teasing to do when he wakes up.
