Beach Day

Luke is 4, Selena is 8 months, and Percabeth is 23.

"What's taking Mommy so long?" Luke asked his dad, Percy, as they stood outside of the car in the parking lot by the beach. "Everyone is already down there having fun!" He pointed to where Travis and Connor were slowly bringing a bucket of water over Katie's head, Rose was building a sandcastle, Jason and Leo were carrying Piper down to the water to throw her in, Hazel and Frank were laughing at Piper, and

"I know, Luke." Percy said, ruffling his blonde curls. "But we need to be patient."

"Why?" Luke, who was wearing blue swimming trunks and a white swim shirt, looked up at Percy with big sea green eyes.

Percy shrugged. "Your mother is fretting over your sister and the beach." He pointed over to Annabeth who was digging through the bag they brought that carried all the towels, goggles, sunscreen, and sand toys.

"Why?" Luke asked again, like a kid would, not understanding why his mom was so worried.

"Because she's a bit of a freak." He muttered to Luke, hoping his wife wouldn't hear.

Annabeth's voice rang in Percy's ears. "I heard that." Annabeth appeared in front of the two boys in a grey swimsuit, covered by a black cover up that ended a couple inches above her knees. She had, eight month old, Selena on her hip and she was carrying the beach bag on the other arm.

"I didn't mean it, Wise Girl!" Percy said quickly, cheeks turning red. He threw his hands up in defense.

"Mhm. Sure you didn't." Annabeth muttered, bouncing a little so Selena wouldn't slip off her hip. "And hold the bag since you're not holding anything."

Percy poured as he took the bag from her. "B-but I am holding the cooler."

Annabeth rolled her eyes. "No, you're rolling the cooler. I have a baby so you carry everything." She readjusted Selena so she sat on top of her other hip.

Percy narrowed his eyes at her as they started walking. "I don't think that's how it works."

"Then don't call me a freak." She smiled sickly sweet at him.

"But you are!" Percy exclaimed. "Nothings going to happen to her!" He gestured to their baby with black curly hair and grey eyes that was wearing a light purple swimsuit.

"Many things could happen." Annabeth grabbed a blanket out of the bag Percy had set next to all their friend's beach tens and spread it out. She set down Selena on the blanket and dug around for the sunscreen that was hidden somewhere in the bag.

"Like what?" Percy challenged, setting down the cooler and moving to stand in front of his wife who pulled out the sunscreen bottle.

"Well, for one, she could get sunburned." Annabeth told him, putting sunscreen on their baby's arms. "She could step on glass. She could drown. She could swallow the water. She could eat sand. She could-"

"Okay, okay, I get it." Percy laughed. "And, you do know that Selena can't even walk yet right?

Annabeth stopped putting sunscreen on Selena's legs and glared at her husband. "Shut up." Then she went back to covering the poor girl in sunscreen.

Luke tapped Annabeth on the shoulder. "Can I go play with Rose now?"

"You need sunscreen." She said, spreading sunscreen on a whining Selena's face. "I know, baby, but it will help with the sun."

"Mom." Luke whined, getting impatient. "I wanna go play."

Annabeth sighed. "Okay, come here." Then she started putting sunscreen on her son.

"I don't like this white stuff." Luke made a face and tried to move away from his mom. "It's sticky."

Annabeth let out a frustrated sigh. "Well, it's going to protect you from the sun." She rubbed the sunscreen on Luke's face. "Unless you'd rather get burned."

"No." Luke pouted. "Sunburns hurt."

"Then I suggest you stop whining and let me finish putting the sunscreen on you." Annabeth said, rubbing in sunscreen on the back of his neck. "Okay, you can go now."

Luke smiled, grabbed a shovel and a bucket, and waved at his parents. "Bye, Mommy And Daddy!"

"Don't go too deep!" She yelled, standing up, and turning to Percy with her hands on her hips. Percy chuckled quietly and moved behind her and placed his hands on her shoulders, rubbing his hands up and down her arms. "What?"

"You need to relax, Wise Girl." Percy said, placing a kiss on the top of her head. "They'll be fine. It's just the beach!"

"Okay." Annabeth took a deep breath. "I'm relaxed. They'll be fine."

"Good." Percy smiled and kissed her cheek.

Annabeth turned around and looked up at him. "I'll put sunscreen on your back." She bent down and grabbed the bottle, checking on Selena first. "Don't eat the sand." She told the baby.

"Relax." Percy soothed.

"I am!" Annabeth snapped, rubbing sunscreen on his back and shoulders.

"Why don't you just buy the spray stuff? It will go a lot faster." Percy grabbed the bottle out of Annabeth's hands.

Annabeth snatched the bottle back. "Because, there's a better risk of sunburn with the spray sunscreen." She squeezed some more sunscreen into her hand and rubbed it around his arms.

"I can do my arms." Percy scoffed. "I'm not a four year old."

Annabeth raised an eyebrow. "You wouldn't rub it in all the way."

While Annabeth continued to help Percy with the sunscreen, Selena leaned too far backwards when she was reaching for something and fell backwards into the sand. She let out a cry, more from fear then pain, causing Annabeth to drop the sunscreen bottle and turn around.

"I told you!" Annabeth snapped at Percy. She knelt down and picked up her baby, brushing the sand out of the mop of black curls.

Selena had stopped crying once Annabeth picked her up, being in the comfort of her mother's arms. "Annabeth, she's fine."

Annabeth ignored him and pressed her lips to Selena's chubby cheek. "Are you okay? Did it get in your eyes?" She used her fingers to open Selena's eyes wider, ignoring the baby's swatting hands.

"Annabeth." Percy crossed his arms after he finished rubbing the rest of his sunscreen in.

"Did you eat any?" Annabeth fretted, opening their daughters mouth to check. "Because I told you not to."

"Annabeth." Percy rolled his eyes, really wanting to go into the water with his wife and baby.

"Did you hit your head?" She checked around Selena's head, moving the black curls around, checking for a lump but not finding one.

"Annabeth!" Percy raised his voice.

Annabeth spun around, Selena on her hip. "What?!" She snapped.

"She's fine." Percy soothed. "She's okay."

Annabeth's shoulders slumped and she ran a hand through her blonde curls. "I'm sorry."

Percy softened and walked over to his wife. "What for? You have nothing to be sorry for, Annabeth." He tangled his fingers in her blonde curls.

"I-I don't know what's wrong with me." Annabeth said, looking down. "I'm not this protective over Luke."

"No, but you were." Percy said, tangling his fingers in Annabeth's hair. "Remember Luke's first beach trip? He was only a month old."

Annabeth nodded. "How Bad was I then?"

Percy shrugged. "About the same as now." He stroked her cheek with his thumb. "I think you just need to remember that nothing happened with Luke so I don't think anything will happen to Selena. Besides, it's the beach, I nor my dad will let anything happen to her."

Annabeth nodded. "Okay. I'm relaxed. Nothing will happen." She handed Percy the baby so she could take off her cover up.

As Annabeth out sunscreen on herself Percy talked to his daughter. "Mommy is a little worried about you isn't she." He smiled and kissed Selena's cheek causing her to giggle.

"Mama." Selena stretches out her arms to Annabeth, closing and unclosing her fists.

"Hi, baby. Do you want to go in the water?" She asked, grabbing Selena from Percy.

"Finally!" Percy pumped a fist in the air. "Let's go!" Then he took off towards the water.

Annabeth looked at Selena as she started walking towards Percy, after she grabbed Selena's floaty. ( you know those things that baby's can sit on in the water? It's like a floaty boat?) "I should've told him that he didn't have to wait for us." She poked her daughter's stomach with her pointer finger.  Selena giggled.

"Annabeth, hurry! The waters great!" Percy shouted at her from where he was swimming around.

Annabeth walked into the water, going to wear Percy was. The water went up to her waist and she looked around worriedly. "It's not going to be too cold for her is it?" Percy have her a face. "Fine. Fine." She set the floaty on the water and helped Selena put her legs through the two holes.

Selena gave a gummy smile and clapped her hands. "You like the water, Selena?" Percy asked, swimming over to her. She giggled in response. He turned to Annabeth who was biting her lip. "See, I told you she'd be fine."

"I know!" She snapped. "Don't rub it in!"

Percy laughed. "Yeesh. Okay." He grabbed the sides of the floaty and pulled Selena in circles. She giggled and clapped her hands. Percy pressed his lips to her forehead. "I love you, Selena. Do you know that?"

"I'm pretty sure she does." Annabeth said, swimming over to where they were. "You spoil her."

"I do not!" He gasped. Selena gave a little whine and lightly hit Percy's hand. "What's wrong, Princess?"

Selena dipped her hand in the water and moved it around. "She wants you to move her around like that again." Annabeth explained.

"Oh!" Percy said and circled the floaty around Annabeth. "Go... get Mama!" He pushes the floaty forward a little so the water splashed at Annabeth. Selena giggled, causing Annabeth to let out a laugh.

"Mama." Selena giggled when she was pushed towards Annabeth again. Selena stretches out her arms towards Annabeth so she grabbed Sophia out and held her close to her chest.

"Mommy?" Annabeth turned around and saw Luke swimming towards her.

"What's up, Luke?" She asked, rubbing her hand through his blonde curls.

He pointed at the floaty. "Can Rose and I use that?"

"Uh, why?" Annabeth's eyebrows furrowed. She turned Selena around in her arms so her back was against Annabeth's chest and the baby was sitting on her arms. Selena kicked her feet in the water.

"Estelle is here and Grandma asked if she could use it when Selena's done." Luke explained.

Annabeth nodded, bringing the floaty to Luke. "Of course. Tell Grandma I said hi."

"Okay, Bye!" Then Luke swam away.

Annabeth glanced at Percy who was staring at them with a confused look on her face. Annabeth smirked and bent down to Selena and whispered in her ear, "Lets go splash Daddy."

"What are you guys planning?" Percy called over to them. "Annabeth?"

"Selena just has something to show you." Annabeth smiled and moved right in front of Percy. "Splash." She splashed Percy Then Selena kicked water at him while giggling.

"Hey!" Percy whined. "That's not fair?"

The girls stopped splashing and Annabeth asked, "Why?"

"Don't sound so innocent!" Percy crossed his arms. "You know I can't splash back because Selena's right there."

"Yup." Annabeth smirked. "And if you do, you'll be spending the rest of the day in the car."

Percy opened then closed his mouth. "Okay." Then he dunked underwater and swam away.

Annabeth chuckled and shook her head turning Selena around so she could see her face. "Let's go a little more under. Ready?" She knelt down so the water went up to her chest. She held Selena up so that the water didn't go over her head. "I love you, baby." She kissed the top of Selena's head.

"Annabeth!" Piper called, swimming over in her blue one piece. "Can I hold Selena?"

Annabeth nodded and handed her the baby. "Just be careful."

"Don't worry." Piper smiled and spun the baby around in the water. What Annabeth didn't know was that Piper took Selena for one of Percy's sneaky schemes.

Annabeth was smiling at Piper and Selena when she suddenly felt hands grab her hips and pull her underwater. The last thing she heard was her own shriek and Piper's laugh.

Annabeth resurfaced and saw Percy laughing so hard that he was bent forward and Piper was leaning against him, Selena still in her arms. Annabeth went back under to get the hair out of her face and came back up with a glare. "Are you serious Percy?"

"Yes..?" He said, unsure. Annabeth smirked, walked over to him, and pushed him under. She laughed but then felt a hand wrap around her ankle and yank her under.

Both Percy and Annabeth resurfaced and she slapped his arm. Annabeth turned to Piper to see her bouncing a crying Selena. Annabeth's eyes widened. "What happened?!"

"I think she though you and Percy were hurting each other." Piper handed Selena to Annabeth.

"No, baby." Annabeth cleaned the tears off her daughters face. "We were just playing! We weren't hurting each other."

Selena didn't stop. "Selena," Percy started. "Mama and me are okay. See," He pointed to Annabeth then to himself. He took Selena from Annabeth and kissed her cheek. "We're okay."

Selena calmed down and laid her head down on his shoulder. Annabeth places her hand on Selena's back. "She's probably hungry and tired." She took Selena into her arms. "I can get her lunch then sit with her while she sleep. You guys go have fun." She smiled and Percy and Piper before walking back to their spot on the sand.

She grabbed a towel out of the beach bag and wrapped it around herself and Selena, before sitting down and rocking them gently, side to side. Annabeth reaches over and opened the cooler, taking out a bottle of milk.

"Dear gods. How am I supposed to heat this up?" She muttered to herself. "Think, Annabeth. Think."

"You sound like one of those people in the cartoons." A voice said from her right. Annabeth looked over to see a boy around her age standing there. She didn't know him, that's for sure.

He had blonde hair and bright green eyes. He wore green swim trunks and a black swim shirt. He smiled at her. "Um, yeah, I guess." Annabeth replied, eyebrows coming together. Why was this stranger talking to her? Was he a kidnapper? She pulled the towel tighter around her so Selena was out of sight; she had fallen asleep anyway.

"So, what's your name?" He asked, sitting down a couple feet in front of her.

She looked around awkwardly before answering. "Um, Annabeth. You?"

"Chad." He replied. "Nice to meet you, Annabeth. Are you here alone?"

"No." Annabeth said, looking around at all her friends, well, really family. "I'm here with my friends and family."

"Oh, cool." Chad nodded and looked around. "I'm here with my little sister and her friend." He pointed over to a little girl around ten with a friend around the same age, building a sand castle.

"That's nice." Annabeth smiled.

"Yeah." Chad smiles back. "Her name's Emily."

Annabeth's smile faded. "No offense or anything but why are you talking to me?"

Chad's cheeks flushed and he scratched the back of his neck. "W-well I saw you sitting here and once I saw your face I recognized you from that boarding school when we were sixteen."

Annabeth wracked her brain for a Chad from the boarding school she went to after the Titan War. "I'm sorry, I'm not good with names. I don't remember a Chad."

"No problem. We weren't friends so don't worry. Everyone just knew who you were because of how smart you are." Chad told her.

"Okay, well back to why you're talking to me." Annabeth said. "And why you asked for my name."

"You name was because I wanted to make sure it was actually you." He laughed. "And you were sitting alone and I thought that you could use some company. Then I thought- God Why is this so hard? You're actually really pretty and I was wondering if you wanted to go out sometime."

Annabeth ran a hand through her hair. "So you're not a kidnapper?"

"What?" Chad laughed. "No."

"Okay." Annabeth smiled and shook her head. "Just making sure." She released her grip slightly on her baby that she was still covering with the towel.

"Back to going out sometime?" He said with a small smile, picking at the sand.

"It's sweet, Chad." She cocked her head to the side. "But I'm kind of already married."

"Oh. Oh!" Chad's cheeks flushed. "You are?"

"Yeah. To that doofus over here." She pointed to Percy who was flopping around like a dolphin with Jason. "The black haired one."

"Ohh." He nodded. "Thats cool."

"Yeah. I'm sorry. You're not upset?" She bit her lip.

"Nah." Chad shook his head. "Plenty of fish in the sea!"

"That's true." Annabeth nodded.

"But.." Chad started with a teasing smile. "Why did you think I was a kidnapper."

This time, Annabeth's face flushed a rosy pink. "My husband, Percy, says that I'm a bit protective." She unwrapped the towel, showing Chad the sleeping baby on her chest. She wrapped the towel so just her head peeked out.

"Awe." Chad said with a smile. "She's cute. What's her name?"

"Selena Bianca." Annabeth smiled down at her baby. "We just call her Selena though."

"You've got the new mom jitters?" Chad asked, nodding understandingly.

Annabeth was about to say something when Luke ran over and grabbed a towel, wrapping it around him. "What's up?" She asked.

"I'm hungry." Luke said.

Annabeth reached over, opening the cooler. "We have ham, salami, or chicken for sandwiches." She looked at her son.

"Umm." He tapped his chin. "Ham. Do you have cheese too?"

"I... think so." Annabeth dug around a bit, trying not to wake up Selena. She pulled out some colby jack cheese. "Yup."

"Okay. Can I have a ham and cheese sandwich." Luke asked. "Please?"

"Yeah. Can you hold Selena so I can make it?" Annabeth asked and he nodded. "She sleeping." She slowly and gingerly places Selena in Luke's arms.

"Mommy, who's that?" Luke pointed at Chad.

"A friend from a school I used to go to." Annabeth replies, making Luke's sandwich.

"Hi." Luke waved.

Chad waved back. "Hi, Buddy." He looked at Annabeth. "So you don't have new mom jitters."

"Nope." Annabeth our the cheese on the sand which. "This is Luke my four year old son."

"Annabeth." Came a whine. "I'm hungry."

Annabeth looked up at Percy. "You're a grown man. Make your own sandwich."

"But, you're making Luke's." He pointed out. "So why can't you make mine?"

Annabeth looked at him again. "You can either make your own lunch or deal with a crying and hungry Selena."

Percy's eyes widened and he started looking through the cooler. Annabeth smirked. "That's what I thought."

Percy looked up from the cooler. "Hey, I'm Percy. You?"

Chad smiled and stuck out a hand. "Chad. A friend of Annabeth's from the boarding school she went to."

"Oh, that school." He made a face at Annabeth.

"What?" She shrugged. "It's the best I could do to stay in New York."

Percy rolled his eyes. "Paul could have gotten you in to Goode."

"Uh-huh." Annabeth replied, taking Selena so Luke could eat.

Chad stood. "I have to go swim with my sister now. Bye, guys."

"Bye." Annabeth waved as he walked away. She grabbed the bottle off the blanket and laughed quietly.

"What?" Percy asked with a mouthful of sandwich. Annabeth gave him a pointed look and he swallowed. "What?"

"The bottle is warm now." She shook it lightly and set it beside her. "Selena. Wake up, baby." She gently tapped the baby's stomach.

Selena's eyes opened and her grey eyes stared into Annabeth's. "Mama."

"Hi." Annabeth smiled. "Morning sunshine. Are you hungry?" She waved the bottle in front of Selena and she grabbed at it. Annabeth adjusted Selena so she was laying down and put the bottle in her mouth.

"Luke, do you want any fruit?" Percy asked, looking at his son who was munching on his sandwich.

"Yeah." Luke replied with a mouthful. He swallowed. "Sorry."

"We have... watermelon, strawberries, and grapes." Percy said, taking out the watermelon for himself.

"Watermelon." Luke answered. "Can I please have some watermelon."

Percy nodded and opened the Tupperware. "It's just wedges not cut in squares."

"That's okay." Luke took a watermelon wedge out of Percy's hand and bit into it.

"Percy?" Annabeth asked.

"Hm?" He looked at his wife who was still feeding Selena.

Annabeth readjusted Selena in her arms. "Can you make me a ham sandwich with lettuce?"

Percy nodded, setting his watermelon down on his plate. "Of course, Wise Girl." He got to work making her sandwich.

Annabeth pulled the empty bottle out of Selena's mouth and moved to burp her. "After lunch, who guys can go swimming but I think I'm just going to stand by he water and Selena can just play around."

"Sounds good." Percy handed her the sandwich.

"Thanks, Seaweed Brain." She smiled and took a bite. She covered her mouth as she spoke, "I think she has a couple toys in the beach bag. Could you get them out?"

Percy rolled his eyes playfully. "And you tell me not to chew with my mouth full."

"I cover my mouth." Annabeth pointed out after she swallowed her food.

Percy handed her the toys. "Whatever. Luke, let's go." Luke stood and followed Percy to the water. Annabeth rolled her eyes but had a smile on her face and cleaned up the lunch mess.

"Do you want to go play by the water?" She asked Selena as she picked her up. The baby clapped her hands. "Okay, lets go!"

Annabeth set Selena down on the wet sand so her feet would still get wet. Annabeth smiled as Selena splashed in the water. Selena picked up sand and threw it into the water. "Oh, no, Honey. Don't throw sand." She knelt down and brushed the sand off of Selena's hand.

"Annabeth!" She stood and looked towards the voice. She saw Sally walking towards her with a warm smile on her face.

"Hi, Sally!" Annabeth exclaimed, giving her mother-in-law a hug. "How are you?"

"Oh, I'm great." Sally said. "What about you, honey."

"I'm good." Annabeth smiled. "Selena's pretty energetic today."

"I see that." Sally said with raised eyebrows and a smile, looking down at the ground.

Annabeth frowned and looked down. "Selena!" She picked up the baby you was crawling away. "Don't crawl away from Mama." She kissed her cheek.

Sally laughed and Annabeth looked at her, confused. "It's funny that when you're talking to Luke you refer to yourself as 'mommy' but with Selena-"

"It's 'Mama'. " Annabeth finished and Sally nodded. "It's because Luke calls me 'Mommy' and Selena calls me 'Mama'. She's never called me 'Mommy'. "

Sally smiled. "She is also eight months."

Annabeth shrugged. "Luke never called me 'Mama'."

"Really?" Sally gasped. "That's odd."

"Yeah." Annabeth set Selena back down on the ground.

Sally watched her granddaughter play with the water and sand. "Do you mind if I take her for a swim with Paul and Estelle?"

Annabeth shook her head. "No, not at all."

Sally bent down and picked the baby up. "Hi, Sweetheart. Do you want to go swimming?" She started walking away and Selena clapped her hands.

Annabeth smiled and spotted The Seven in the water together. She smirked and ran in. Percy's back was facing her so she jumped on his back, making him go under. Annabeth stood and laughed with the rest of her friends.

"Anyone else feel a weird sensation by their feet?" Piper asked.

"Yeah." Hazel replied, looking a little freaked out.

Jason turned ghostly pale. "Is it a shark?" He squeaked our making everyone burst out laughing.

"Big scary Jason is afraid of one of Percy's friends?" Leo said in a baby voice, making them all laugh harder.

Suddenly, they were all pulled underneath.

They resurfaced laughing so hard that they couldn't breath.

"Oh my gods." Piper laughed, moving her choppy hair out of her face.

Percy laughed. "Your guy's faces were priceless."

"You idiot." Annabeth laughed and slapped his arm. Percy mischievously smirked and threw Annabeth over her shoulder, bringing her out deeper. "Put me.. down!" The last part was screamed because he had thrown her into the water.

He hurriedly swam back to his friends, earning high fives from all of them. Percy whispered something in Jason's ear and the blonde superman nodded. Jason threw Piper over his shoulder and threw her, much to Piper's protests, next to Annabeth.

Piper resurfaced and Annabeth laughed. "What?"

"Seaweed's on your head." Annabeth peeled it off Piper's head.

"Ew." Piper gagged. "We need to get them back.

"All of them." Annabeth replied and gave Piper a fist bump.

"Charmspeak?" Piper suggested.

Charmspeak." Annabeth confirmed.

"Let's go." They both said.

"Hey, there you guys are!" Jason said innocently. "Where'd you guys go?"

"Don't act like you don't know." Piper pushed Jason under and Annabeth pushed Percy under.

Once the boys came back above water Piper began to speak. "Dunk everyone underwater except Annabeth and me."

Hazel dunked Frank under.

Leo dunked Percy under.

Jason dunked himself under.

Annabeth cracked up. "J-Jason." She gasped.

"H-he dunked himself." Piper laughed. "What an idiot!"

———

After everyone was done swimming and having fun in the water they all got dressed in their cars and gathered around a fire pit on the beach.

The sunset was beautiful, orange fading to yellow, yellow fading into pink, and pink fading into blue.

They all sat around the fire pit on camp chairs, conversing about random things. The Stolls were talking about a prank they were going to do on Katie. Katie was helping Rose put ketchup on her hot dog. Luke, who changed into shorts and a sweatshirt, sat next to Percy, he changed into shorts and a blue sweatshirt, who was making his hot dog over the fire.

Piper was talking to Hazel about a new dress she was working on  and asking her if she could use some of her jewels to add to the waistband. Jason was talking to Leo about who knows what. Thalia was teasing a flushed Nico and laughing Will. Sally was helping Estelle eat her hot dog. Paul was watching the fire contently.

Annabeth, who changed into leggings and a T-shirt, was sitting close to the fire but not too close. She hugged a sleeping Selena, who was in a light purple footie pajamas, close to her chest and was rocking back  and forth.

Annabeth felt Selena stir so she stroked her head full of black curls that was laying against her chest, Selena's right cheek pressed against her collarbone. Annabeth pressed her lips to the top of the baby's head. "I love you, Selena."

"Annabeth?" Percy asked. She turned her head and raised an eyebrow. "Brat, hot dog, or hamburger?"

"Um, hamburger." Annabeth smiled. "Thanks."

"No problem." Percy stood, Luke's hot dog fully cooked on the hot dog fork. He pressed a kiss to her blonde curls before walking to the picnic table they pulled over.

Annabeth laid her head on top of Selena's and waited for her burger to get done.

———

After everyone ate, they all sat by the fire and sand about grandmas getting ran over by Apollo's sun chariot.

The End.

I'm sorry if t was messy. I winged it bc I usually write them on paper before but I didn't for this one.
