Monday
Annabeth's POV
Sunday passed quickly especially since Percy was gone, but hey, he had school. It was Monday morning and I was preparing my book bag. I threw in my other notebooks and grabbed a couple of pencils. Walking out the door I sighed. Another day of school. Only about five weeks left. Turning I locked the door and headed to the main building on campus.
I was supposed to meet Emily at the library, she had left early to get a new book. Like I said, supposed to. I was walking down the hall when I heard angry voices and scuffling. Stopping I stepped back glancing down the left hall. Sure enough a fight was brewing. It looked like a freshman girl against a mixed pack of seniors. She was pinned to the wall surrounded by hounding voices from boys and girls. I felt angry, really angry. I hated this kind of crap. Picking on someone was the stupidest thing a person could do. It was plain wrong to begin with and there was zero logic behind it.
Fuming I stormed down the hall. I was close to the group when I spoke.
"Hey!" My voice was harsh and cut through the chaos like a knife in butter. The ring leader froze. She turned to me flashing her amber eyes. She let go of the girl. The crowd fanned out behind her revealing a boy slumped over and unconscious on the ground.
"Look the clean up party is here. Clean this up we're leaving." She sneered. Immediately my fists clenched. No one ever, ever, ordered me around. I make my own decisions.
"One, leave them alone, two do not order me to do anything, and three shut up!" I growled. She squared her shoulders. Locking eyes with me.
"Guys, I think this mutt wants to take the place of her friends." She said gesturing to her two victims. Slowly the group of six approached me.
"That's it." I said. I through my bag to the side balled my fists and planted my feet. The first to lunge was a boy. He was tall and skinny. Good I thought. I am smaller work it to my advantage. He swung and I ducked. I thrust my fist upwards into his gut, straightened and thrust my foot into his chest. He toppled backwards taking one of his comrades with him. Next was a girl. She was short and stocky. 'Evaluate' I thought. She would be heavier on her feet so it would be harder to knock her over. So, I thought, I need to use her momentum against her.
She was more careful. She approached slowly. I faked a left hook and instead bashed my right elbow into her nose. She cringed stepping back and I swept my leg under her legs. She fell to the ground and I kicked her aside. My breathing was slightly quicker but I wasn't even tired yet.
"Who's next?" I asked. The four remaining looked at each other and charged. I had no time to evaluate ,I needed to act. As they ran at me I rolled to the side. They skidded past me and I quickly stood up. I quickly wrapped my arm around a boys neck and thrust my knee into his back. He groaned and I released him. He crawled away as the others got their bearings.
A girl and a boy double teamed me next. I ducked under their arms, turned grabbed their other arms and jerked up. The two flipped and landed on their backs. By now I was out of breath and probably looked like a mess. Turning I faced the ringleader. The girl with the amber eyes. She sneered and jabbed at me quickly. I dodged the first to strikes but the third hit me in my right eye. It stung but worse things had happened to me. I turned at her anger probably etched on my face. My assumption, she knew martial arts, but I knew more.
Spinning I threw a reverse side kick which she dodged but followed up with a palm strike to the gut. Winded she stepped back. She threw a roundhouse kick which I blocked followed by a back fist and knife hand strike. I dodged the other strikes and realized she had let her guard down. I jumped twisting to the left and slamming my foot into her head. A perfect butterfly kick. She crumpled to the ground with the rest of her friends. Turning I saw the girl shaking the boy awake.
Making my way to them I helped the girl to her feet. She had red frizzy hair and beautiful hazel eyes. She was relatively tall with freckles that splattered across her face just on her nose. She was skinny and pale. The boy was covered in bruises with his lips split. Blood oozed from his mouth and nose. His blonde hair plastered his face. He was tall maybe six foot with strong arms and a runners body.
"Boyfriend?" I asked the girl. She nodded.
"He was trying to protect me." She sniffed.
"Good. That means you have a good man." She smiled. I bent down and with the girls help draped him over my shoulders. I started stumbling down the hall to the medical office.
"Thank you." The girl said. Her voice was quiet and gentle. I nodded focused on my mission.
"Those people were stupid. We're in college for crying out loud. Being a bully is for highschool and elementary school." I growled. The girl nodded. We walked in silence until we reached the medical office. The nurse fussed at us but gladly treated the boy. I turned to leave when the girl caught my arm.
"Wait!" She said, "I don't know your name." I turned smiling grimly.
"Annabeth, Annabeth Chase." I said. She smiled and I turned to leave.
