❯❯ Made It ❮❮
~Amy~
I look at my arm and see the clock counting down. I felt the tears well up and I collapse onto my couch curling into a ball and crying. Jake and I know we're each others soulmates why didn't we act sooner. Why did we have to wait.
When two soulmates aren't with each other when the clock counts down they die.
That sentence repeats in my head. We knew that since we learned about soulmates which for me was Second Grade and him Third. I cry some more and look at the time. 11:45 am our countdown will complete at 7:00 pm.
I look to the door hoping Jake would burst in. It was my day off not Jake's though. I sigh and wipe my tears as I go to make myself something for lunch. If I'm going to die then I'm gonna at least have one final good meal. I then remember I'm a terrible cook. I sigh and call the Chinese restaurant, I'll have semi-good food.
~Jake~
I look at my wrist then the time on the clock. Noon. I hop up and get my stuff together. I'm not letting Amy die. Not today. Not Ever.
I didn't explain myself to the squad as I left the bullpen. I think they knew what I was doing. I knew taking a car would get me there slower than walking. So I walked. I passed the Chinese Restaurant and I saw Hank about to do a delivery. "Where are you going?" I ask as I knew he only delivered to Amy's apartment building.
"Going over to Amy's she ordered take-out," Hank replied.
"Here I'm heading there give it to me." I then pay him the amount and tip 20%.
"Thanks Jake!" he calls as I leave.
"No problem!" I call back and walk the short walk to Amy's. I knock on her door, and her face brightens when she sees me. I then hold up the Chinese and give it to her. "Saw Hank about to make a delivery so I asked where he was going. Made it here before the food got cold." She smiles more and ushers me inside and makes plates.
I realized something though. She was trying to make it seem like a normal day when we both know its not. I sigh and let her get away with it for now. She looks at me and then I see the emotions behind her eyes. Worry, Sadness, slight happiness, and some love. I smile back and lean across the table and kiss her head. She grabs my hand and we just stay like that. I check the time again.
12:56.
~3rd Person~
Amy looked at the time after Jake did and finally lost control of the tears. Jake walked over to her side and picked her up not caring the fact she was soaking his shirt. She had her face hidden in his chest and that's when Jake's tears fell. As Amy repositioned herself Jake hid his face in her hair. Smelling her shampoo and wishing he could do anything to stop this countdown from affecting Amy.
"Jake. Why didn't we date? We knew we were soulmates," she cried and he just held her tighter.
"We were scared Ames, We were scared." His tears had hit her neck, but she didn't tell him. She knew he hated being weak, so she didn't let him be weak in her mind. She hugged him and held him as tight a possible.
"Jake I don't want to die," she whimpers and he pulls back from her and tilts her head to face his. Their watery eyes meet and both of their hearts shattered.
"I know Ames," he says and tries to think of any encouragement when her soft lips met his. He was shocked, but then kissed back. The kiss was tender, passionate, and full of sadness. Not how either of them wanted their first kiss to be. When they broke apart Amy leaned her head in the crook of his neck silently crying and he rubbed her back stroking her hair while saying sweet words.
Soon enough Amy had fallen asleep, and Jake checked the time.
3:27.
He sighed and picked her up and kissed her head. He then carried her to her bedroom where he laid her down and then laid by her. He wrapped his arm around her, and soon fell asleep himself.
Jake woke up at 7:30 pm. He checked the time and gasped as he saw the countdown had run out. He didn't care though he felt for Amy's pulse, heartbeat, and breathing. When he found all he sighed in relief.
They had made it. She woke up when Jake had checked her pulse, but she had no idea why. When she rolled to his side and opened her eyes she smiled seeing his famous smile. "Ames we made it," he says and then kissed her softly.
She kissed back, and once he pulled away they both longed for the other's lip back on theirs. Although Amy did check her arm and the clock. She had made it. He made it. 'Oh thank you lord' is what she thought.
Jake and Amy kissed again. This wasn't a we're alive kiss or were about to die kiss though. This was a 'I love you' kiss without needing to say 'I love you'.
