This short piece is just in response to questions people have private messaged me about this series.

I don't often people watch. Never really have. I just notice things. I don't do it on purpose. It just kind of comes natural to me after working as an investigator for so many years. Though I do find that now that I am retired it is a lot more fun to do without the added pressure of deciding whether or not I will need to arrest you some day.

There is no trick to watching people. I can for the most part find out quite a bit about someone in the first 60 seconds of meeting or watching someone. Everything important about yourself you project outwardly. Your likes, dislikes, outlook on life, health habits, work habits, marital status, happiness, sadness, drug use, fears, dreams, etc., and that's just in the first 30 seconds. Get a chance to talk to them or watch them talk to someone else and the next 30 seconds will tell you all the rest.

These stories, however many they turn out to be, are all true. There is no sense in making up details or trying to make things more interesting than they already are. If you can't find something interesting in real life you are not looking hard enough. Interesting stories walk right by you every single day. You don't see them usually because you think you are just too busy to look up or you are of the belief that you are the center of the universe. Trust me, if you had seen some of the things I have you would know that neither of those things are true.

I don't go to Starbucks so I can watch people and write about them. In all honesty I would prefer to be alone. I go there to drink coffee, read, or write. And no I won't drink those over priced fancy schmancy coffees that many of you think make you look cool. I just drink regular coffee. Also to be honest I go there quite a bit so I can turn off the damn air conditioning in my house once in a while. It's crazy hot where I live and my air conditioning bill can be as much as my car payment.  

I already have many stories in my head for this. I could stop going to Starbucks today and still write up about 20 stories here. It just hadn't occurred to me before.

So there it is. I will once in a while go drink some coffee and do some reading at Starbucks. Every once in a while I look up from my book or my computer and notice an interesting thing or two. This series will be about those things.
