Noelly Kendrick

Noelly Kendrick strutted down the halls of Goode High, searching for a certain black haired and green eyes boy named Percy Jackson. It was her mission to trick him into becoming her boyfriend because all her friends didn't think she could pull it off. All because of her name! Ridiculous, right?

But who needs a nice name when there's popularity and looks, right? With her shiny brown hair and bright sparkling blue eyes, she could swoon anyone into liking her. So sad for the boys she didn't actually like. Kiss and dump. Over and over again. It wasn't Noelly's fault that all the boys were chasing after her like a cat chasing after a mouse.

This time, it would be different. She actually liked Percy and vice versa. She could see it in the way he'd glance up at her when she would speak for the class whether it was reading a paragraph or presenting a project.

Of course, they'd never talked before but who needs talking? Noelly has it all; the looks, the flirtatious personality, even the smarts. A and B student which was above average. She'd heard from other people around the school that he's into blondes and know-it-alls.

Oh, she knows she's not a blonde. And, no, she's not going to dye her hair. That was for desperate girls and Noelly was not desperate for anybody. Boys were desperate for her. She had made up a whole plan to make Percy fall in love with her, a brunette.

First, Noelly would walk up to Percy who would usually be by his locker after school. Then, she'd strike up a conversation about their history project (they're partners). After that, she would ask him if she could go to his house and work on their project. And then, she'd ask him out. He'd take her out to dinner and then who knows what comes after the first date.

There he was! Leaning against his locker, talking to someone over the phone. Instead of interrupted, Noelly decided to listen in. What? It wasn't stalking. She was curious and wanted to know if he was taken, not that it would stop her if he was.

"Mhm...yes...see you later...yup, I love you too...bye." He pulled his phone away from his ear and stuffed it in his pocket, obviously done talking. Turning around, Percy opened his locker and started stuffing textbooks and papers into his backpack.

Noelly cleared her throat. "Percy?"

"Yeah?" He glanced up at her and grinned. "Oh, hey, Noelly. What's up?"

Awe, he cared about her. "I was wondering if we could work on our history project together in the library." She knew he wouldn't agree so the plan worked perfectly.

"I'm sorry, I've got to head home. My mom would be worried sick and my phone is about to die." Percy mumbled something under his breath that sounded something along the lines of: last time, missing, months.

Noelly waved her hand. "No worries. Would it be okay if I came over to work on it? I can't work on it over the weekend or tomorrow because little siblings and parents are fighting. It's a struggle."

"Oh, yeah, sure." Percy shouldered his backpack, shut his locker, and led her out of the school. He pointed over to a blue Prius and unlocked the doors. "This is my car, you can hop right in."

So she did just that. Everything was working out perfectly. Noelly debated kissing him now or later. Now would be a reasonable time because she'd just get it over with and then they could go tell his mom that they're dating. Now doubt she'd be ecstatic. But, waiting would be even better because she doesn't want to freak him out.

She'd wait till the time was right.

"So, Percy, did you know that I got the highest score on the Chemistry test?" Noelly asked him as he started driving out of the parking lot. "Mr. Florence told me that he was very impressed with me and hopes that I continue working hard. Isn't that amazing? It's such an honor being praised by a teacher. Have you ever been complimented?"

"Um, no. I don't do very well in school." Percy pursed his lips and took a turn left.

Why was he acting so nervous? Oh, wait, people get nervous when they're around people they like or find attractive. How cute! "Oh, that sucks. Have you tried tutoring. I bet my teachers would let me since I'm their smartest student."

"No, thanks. My step-dad is an english teacher and that's the subject I struggle with," Percy said and stopped at a red light. "Anyway, how are you the smartest student out of three hundred seniors?"

Noelly felt offended but she shook it off. "I don't know. Just am. Isn't that amazing? I'm so smart." She grinned proudly at herself. When she was in elementary school her grades were all C's. She'd never thought she would make it this far.

"So you have straight A's?" Percy challenged her.

"One B but it's the beginning of the third quarter." Noelly frowned. "Wait, were you even here Junior year? I remember you from freshman year and half of sophomore year but then you just dissappeared."

"Um, yeah. Something like that," Percy said.

Noelly smirked. "Oh, what? Did you trip and fall into a dark hole and couldn't get out for a year?" She joked but the smile was wiped off her face when he swerved in the road, receiving quite a few honks from angry New Yorkers.

"I went to live with my dad for a while," Percy answered but he didn't sound too sure.

"I thought you didn't know your dad?" Noelly voiced what she heard from other kids around the school.

Percy shrugged. "I've met him a couple times. He's a really busy dude and though I hate that he depends on other people to take care of his problems, he's still my dad. I don't get to see him very often."

"He doesn't seem like a great guy," Noelly commented. "Having people take care of his problems instead of dealing with them himself? How immature."

Percy parked the car in the parking lot. "Don't insult my dad. You don't know who he is and what his job is so you have no right to say anything disrespectful."

"Then who is he?"

"That is secret information," Percy said and they got out of the car.

Noelly laughed as they began to walk toward the apartment building. "It's not like he's a secret agent or anything, right?"

"Something like that," Percy muttered and opened the door for her.

Noelly sighed. He was so sweet! Holding the door open for her and just everything. The way he talks to her, slow and soft, not rough or harsh like some of her ex-boyfriends. She was really starting to fall for this one.

The walk up the stairs was silent. Noelly was confused why they didn't just take the elevator but when she mentioned it, fear flashed through his beautiful green eyes and she dropped the subject.

"Did you know that I helped design a building in my architecture class?" Noelly asked Percy, trying to impress him. "It was that new restaurant on North 17th? I forgot the name of it."

"Nice," Percy said and smiled.

"Isn't that such a big deal? Like, it's not everyday a seventeen year old gets to help design a building before they go to college or even graduate high school!" Noelly exclaimed.

Percy nodded and took a key out of his backpack. "Sorry that we had to walk all the way to the fourth floor but a couple years ago I was in an elevator and me and one other person got stuck in it because it broke down."

"Oh, that's completely understandable." Noelly nodded. "Are we gonna go in or just stand here?"

"Right." Percy unlocked the door and stepped inside, shouting a greeting.

A woman in her upper thirties or lower forties appeared in front of them. "Hey, Percy!-" She glanced at Noelly. "Hello, Dear. I don't think we've met before. What's your name?"

"Noelly," She answered and accepted the handshake. "Nice to meet you, Ms. Jackson."

"Please, call me Sally." she smiled and Noelly could see the wrinkled beside her eyes, a sign that she smiled a lot.

Noelly nodded and took off her shoes, following Percy into the living room where he dropped his backpack on the couch. "We can work here."

"Okay." Noelly set her things down and sat on the floor, in front of the coffee table.

"I'll be right back." Percy left the living room, leaving Noelly alone.

When he came back, he was carrying a plate of blue chocolate chip cookies and set the down on the coffee table. It was an unusual color for cookies but Noelly didn't question anything. If he wanted to eat blue cookies, she would let him.

She expected him to sit down next to her but instead he sat on the other side of the coffee table, in front of her. "Okay, we have to pick a god or goddess to do the project on. Honestly, I don't really pay attention to the Greek and Roman units so you can pick."

Percy furrowed his brows. "Poseidon."

"Alright." Noelly scrawled the name Poseidon on the top of her notebook page. "Where did he come from? What is he the god of? And did he have a rival? why or why not?" She read off the rubric. "And some other stuff but we can start with this."

"Okay, he's the god of the sea-" She wrote that down as a bullet point. "-earthquakes, and horses."

Noelly widened her eyes. "You really pay attention."

"Sometimes." Percy shrugged. "Then he's a Greek god. He came from his parents were Kronos and Rhea."

"You're not even using the history book or the internet!" Noelly was very impressed.

Percy grinned. "I am smart in some cases."

Noelly laughed. "Okay and the rival? I'm sorry but I have no idea."

"No worries," Percy said. "His rival was no other than the goddess-"

"Athena." A new voice interrupted.

Noelly looked up and held in a gasp. This girl, that stood in the entryway of the living room and kitchen was absolutely gorgeous. Her blonde hair stopped a few inches below her shoulders and her grey eyes sparkled. She wore leggings and a blue hoodie that looked to be about three sizes too big.

Percy smiled wider. "I was going to say the goddess of disapproval."

The girl rolled her eyes and turned to Noelly. "Hey, I'm Annabeth."

"Noelly." She felt attacked. She thought that her name was unique but there's never a day where you run into someone named Annabeth. You could run into someone named Noel every day.

"Nice to meet you. What are you guys working on?" Annabeth asked, looking at Noelly's notebook. "Ah, greek gods. Fun people. Full of sarcasm."

"How do you know that?" Noelly narrowed her eyes.

Annabeth tapped the top of her head. "Knowledge. The same thing people use to spell cat, C-A-T. It uses knowledge."

This girl was kind of a smartass. "Um, okay?"

"Anyway, Percy, have you seen my laptop? I can't find it," Annabeth told him.

Percy nodded. "It's charging in our room. I saw this morning that it was almost dead. I'm surprised you haven't been on it yet."

"Other stuff to do." Annabeth shrugged before turning to leave. "Thanks, Seaweed Brain."
"Yup!" Percy called out to her.

Noelly averted her eyes back over to Percy. "Is that your sister?"

"Ew, gross, no," Percy laughed and shook his head. "Last time I checked, my mom only has two kids and my step-dad, Paul, doesn't have a secret daughter."

"You have a sibling?" Noelly asked.

Percy gave her a thumbs up. "A half-sister. She's a little over one and I'm guessing that she's sleeping."

Noelly nodded. How did she not know that Percy had a sister? She should be able to know everything about him if they were going to become a couple. "Then who was that?"

"My girlfriend," Percy answered, writing something down in his notebook.

Scratch that, they weren't going to become a couple. "Your girlfriend?"

"Yup."

Noelly laughed humorlessly and started packing up her stuff, muttering, "Of course. Of course."

"Wait, where are you going?" Percy asked and stood up after she did. "We just started and you said that you couldn't work on after today."

"Of course you'd choose a blonde over a burnette!" Noelly cried. "You're just like every other boy out there! Always going after the blondes because they're dumb and would fall for anything and give you everything you want. You're nothing but a bastard!"

"I would appreciate it if you didn't talk to my boyfriend like that." Annabeth walked into the living room and stood protectively beside Percy. "He's a bit sensitive."

"Hey!" Percy tried to defend himself but he just got nudged in the ribcage by Annabeth's elbow.

Noelly shook her head. "You choose her instead of giving me a chance."

"Woah," Annabeth said. "You never had a chance."

"Oh yeah? How long have you been dating?" Noelly challenged.

Percy sighed. "Almost two years."

Noelly pursed her lips. "Well, I am the best student in all of my classes and I helped design that new restaurant in my architecture class. Beat that."

"You're an architect too?" Annabeth raised an eyebrow. "I've designed a whole city and I have straight A's."

"You don't even go to our school," Noelly pointed out.

Annabeth's face contorted into one of confusion. "Um, yes, I do. I had to leave early for a doctor's appointment."

"Is your ankle bothering you again?" Percy asked, worried.

"A bit," She lifted her left ankle and sure enough, it was wrapped up with an icepack on the inside. "The doctor told me to keep icing it and to keep it wrapped."

"I'm leaving." Noelly shouldered her backpack, pushed past them, and opened the door. "Oh, and Percy? I'm doing the project by myself." She walked out and slammed the door behind her. Thankfully it didn't wake Estelle up.

Annabeth laughed. "Isn't she just a pocketful of sunshine."

Percy pouted. "I have to do the project by myself and I can't spell...or read."

"Oh, Seaweed Brain." Annabeth slid her arms around his neck. "I suppose I'll help you,"

"Really?!" Percy wrapped his arms around her waist and kissed her. "I love you so much!"

"I love you too." Annabeth kissed him.

He pulled away and bounced over to the coffee table. "Let's get started on my Poseidon poster."

"If I'm helping, then you're doing my mom."

"Ugh, fine."

As long as he got help, he didn't really care who he did.

As for Noelly, she cried the whole walk home and told her friends that she lost the bet but made sure to inform them that it wasn't because of her name. It was because of Annabeth.

But if Noelly was being honest, they made a great couple.
