Percabeth are married for a few months and are attending NYU. Not NRU.
I was a twenty year old college student at NYU who was trying to work on my homework for my new architecture class but I couldn't seem to focus. The blonde haired beauty who I met this morning during my new class kept crossing my mind. She was so beautiful, full curly blonde haired, and piercing grey eyes. I remembered how we met, I had dropped my pencil on the floor right when she was walking past. She paused and handed it to me before sitting down in the seat next to me. Then she smiled at me and-
"Mark? You okay?" My roommate, Percy Jackson, asked.
Now, Percy Jackson was also a twenty year old college student here at NYU. He was studying to become a Marine Biologist which was pretty cool. However, I didn't know much about him except that he was married just last summer. I had no idea who his wife- or husband if he rolled that way- was.
When I first met him, I wasn't expecting him to be as nice as he was. Percy looked like the typical bad boy you see in movies with his unruly black hair and bright sea green eyes. But once I got to know him, I found out he didn't have a mean bone in his body.
But he never acted like he wanted to be friends. More like acquaintances. He never told me anything except things about his family- Mom, step-dad, and little sister. I never heard anything about his spouse. I used to doubt he was actually married but the ring he wears was too real to not be expensive. So I believed him.
I wasn't going to be the person to push him to open up.
"Oh, yeah, I'm okay." Mark tried for a reassuring smile. "Just thinking."
"About?" Percy pressed.
I was always confused about that. He always expected me to tell him everything that was on my mind but he wouldn't tell me anything. He acted as if his whole life was one big secret that he couldn't share with anyone.
But I decided to share because I was nice enough to do. "I met this girl in my new class."
"A girl? You like her?" I blushed. "You do! Tell me about her!"
I frowned. "You're acting like a teenage girl. Not a married man."
Percy laughed. "I just want to know who stole my friend's heart."
I smiled because this is the first time he's referred to me as a friend. I wasn't about to drop this opportunity. "She's got shoulder length curly blonde hair, maybe a couple inches longer. She's got beautiful grey eyes that shine whenever she's excited. And-"
"Grey eyes?" Percy asked. I nodded. "Her name doesn't happen to be Annabeth does it?"
I was taken aback. How does he know that? "Yeah. It is. How do you know that?"
"I've met her a few times. We went to school together senior year and I've seen her around here. She's really nice but kind of mean." He snickered but I was confused.
"She's not mean," I said. "Super nice."
Percy nodded and started typing away on his laptop. "You've only known her for a few hours. She's beat up people before. It's pretty great."
"Oh. Well, maybe I've just seen a different side of her." I shrugged and Percy laughed. "What?"
"Nothing. Nothing." Percy shook his head.
I nodded and got back to work.
------
"Hey!" I exclaimed that next morning when Annabeth sat down next to me. She was even more beautiful than yesterday- her hair up in a messy ponytail and her grey eyes brighter than ever. Maybe she received good news or she was just excited to see me. "How are you?"
"Really good," She answered and opened up her notebook to a new page. "I'm moving out of my dorm and into an apartment this weekend. I'm excited. And- sorry I'm rambling again."
I smiled, happy that she was happy. "No, no, it's fine! I actually quite like it when you talk a lot. It's really cu- nice. Yeah, nice. You actually talk to me more than my roommate does. Besides, are you living alone?"
She shook her head. "Um, no. Last summer I got-"
The teacher interrupted her.
------
After class I managed to catch up to Annabeth before she left the building. I grabbed her arm and she spun around, her eyes piercing into mine. When she realized it was me, her eyes softened and she asked, "Hey, what's up?"
"Well, I was thinking that, before you leave, maybe if you wanted to go out with me and my roommate tomorrow for dinner? I was thinking of a Greek and Roman place in Manhattan? Around six?" I asked nervously. "My roommate wants to meet you."
She raised an eyebrow. "You've talked about me?"
"Uh- I, yeah," I admitted. "I told him I met a new friend and he wants to make sure I'm good enough to be your... friend."
"I thought you said that he didn't talk to you?" Annabeth crossed her arms.
Uh-oh, I was caught. "Um. Well, he does sometimes just... not when we're working."
Annabeth hummed in response. "I'll think about it."
"Okay, good," I said before walking away."
-------
I opened the door to my dorm room and stepped inside. Percy was already there, looking down at a pile of notes with furrowed eyebrows, a crease between them. However, he looked up when I shut the door.
"How's Annabeth?" Percy asked. Why does he care?
"Good." I plopped down on my bed. "I got a date... well, kind of."
Percy's eyes widened. "A date? With Annabeth?"
"Well, kind of." I smirked. "Don't worry. You'll be there too, there's plenty of me to go around."
He didn't laugh. "Uh-huh." He pushed his notes to the side and stood. "I'll be right back. I need to go on a walk, get some fresh air."
I nodded. "Have fun."
Then he was out the door.
-------
Annabeth sighed when a knock sounded from the opposite side of the bed. " Elena, I swear if you ordered takeout again!" She shouted to her roommate who was going to the bathroom.
"I didn't!" She shouted back a bit muffled. "Must be your hubby."
Shaking her head, Annabeth went up to answer the door. Sure enough, Percy, her husband of just last summer, stood there with a worried look in his eyes. She leaned against the doorframe, crossed her arms, and smiled. "What's going on, Seaweed Brain?"
He practically pushed her inside, shut the door, and kissed her.
She pulled away and stared up at him. "Are you okay?"
"Did you agree to go on a date with Mark?" Percy asked, gazing down at her, a crease between his eyebrows. "Because, Annabeth-"
"Shut up," Annabeth muttered before pressing her lips softly to his. She pulled away and ran her fingers through his black hair. "I'm guessing you're the roommate?" He nodded. "Then I'll have you know that I told him I'd think about it."
"You'd think about it?" Percy asked, his eyes widening. "So you considered it?"
"No!" Annabeth laughed and hugged him, her arms around his neck. "Why would I ever cheat on you, Percy? I only said that because he told me his roommate was going. And it's my favorite place."
Percy nodded. "Oh."
They were about to kiss again when the bathroom door opened and Elena stepped out. She made a face at them and sat down on her bed. "Please, save that for when you move in. You two will have plenty of time to do that stuff."
"Oh shut up," Annabeth said. "Anyway, since you're the roommate, Percy, I was thinking maybe I could agree to go and we could mess with him a bit."
"Like you two did with me?" Elena asked, smirking. "You little jerks."
Annabeth laughed. "I said I was sorry!"
"And I said I forgave you!" Elena rolled her eyes. "Goodness."
"Then what's the problem?" Annabeth teased back.
Percy sighed and shook his head. "I'll never understand you two but yes, we should do that."
"Then it's settled." Annabeth smiled.
-------
"Hey, Annabeth!" I exclaimed as I sat down next to her that next morning. "So, did you think about it?" I was hoping she did.
"Yeah, I did," Annabeth replied. "I'll go."
"Really!?" I asked excitedly but then blushed. "I mean, great! I made reservations for six."
Annabeth frowned. "You made reservations before I agreed to go?"
I realized my mistake. "Uh, my roommate, Percy, said he ran into you last night. He said that you were going to go. So, I uh, made the reservations."
"Oh." She nodded. "I'll meet you guys there tonight."
"Are you sure? I could give you a ride," I offered. "Percy's taking his own car."
Annabeth shook her head. "No thanks. I can drive myself."
"Oh, alright."
-------
I smoothed the wrinkles out of my white button up shirt as I waited for Annabeth and Percy. I wanted to look my best for Annabeth so I dressed in black dress pants and a white dress shirt. I had jelled my light brown hair back.
It was well over six and I was getting a bit worried. It was almost like I was getting stood up by Annabeth and my... roommate. But maybe Annabeth was running late and Percy decided to hang out with his wife (or husband). I was kind of hoping Percy decided to stay back and give Annabeth and I some time alone.
But if I was being honest, I thought he was a bit young to be married. He was only twenty- the same age as me- and I haven't even had my first girlfriend yet! Though I was hoping Annabeth would agree to become my first girlfriend tonight.
Anyway, he's only twenty. Too young! He'll probably be divorced in a couple years because people who are married that long usually don't last. And who knows how long he was dating his significant others. A year? A couple months?
But it also wasn't my business to bring it up to him. Besides, in a couple years we'll be graduating and going our separate ways. We might not even keep in touch since we weren't that close as of right now.
I was brought out of my thoughts by the sound of the front door opening. I turned around in my booth and saw Percy open the door for Annabeth. What? Why would he open the door for her? And why did they arrive at the same time? Was he trying to steal her from me? Was that why he ran into her last night?
It kind of seemed that way as Annabeth glanced up at him, her eyes shining, and a bright smile on her face. My blood boiled but I knew I had to keep my cool. It should be me making her smile like that, not Percy.
Anyway, Annabeth looked gorgeous- her hair tumbled down her shoulders and her grey eyes were as bright as ever. She must have been really happy. She wore blue ripped jeans and a swim hoodie. She was on the swim team? Huh, I didn't know that.
I directed my eyes to Percy and saw that he was also wearing a swim hoodie but instead of jeans he was wearing sweatpants. Oh, that made sense. They were on the swim team together! I felt much better after making that realization.
I also felt overdressed. I was expecting this place to be fancy but apparently it was just casual- hence Percy and Annabeth's outfits. I also thought Annabeth would try to dress nice for me but oh well.
Smiling, I scooted over for Annabeth to sit next to me. But she walked right past me and sat down in the booth in front of me, Percy plopping himself down beside her. I was confused. Why would she sit next to him and not me? Maybe to see me better, yes, that was it.
"Hey, what took you guys so long?" I asked, picking up my menu but not looking at it.
Annabeth shared a look with Percy. "He's a slow driver."
I frowned. "I thought you were driving yourself?"
"Oh." Her eyes widened. "Well, my- uh- my car broke down in the parking lot and Percy was parked next to me." She shrugged and looked down at her menu. "So he gave me a ride."
I nodded, biting my lip. "I didn't know you were on the swim team!" I exclaimed, pointing at her sweatshirt. "I knew Percy was but now you. How's the season going?"
Beside her, Percy snorted. "Yeah, Wise Girl, tell him."
Wise Girl? I decided to ignore it. "So?"
"I'm not on the swim team, Mark," Annabeth replied.
"Then whose is it?" I asked. She jabbed her thumb at Percy. "Oh. Percy's? Why are you wearing Percy's sweatshirt?"
"It's cold outside. I didn't bring a sweatshirt along and Percy had an extra so I wore it," Annabeth said and pulled her knees up to her chest, her eyes focused on the menu on the table. "Now stop being so nosy. Gods."
Mark decided to ignore that last comment. It stung a little. "Annabeth, I don't think the workers wouldn appreciate you putting your dirty shoes on their clean seats."
Annabeth didn't move her legs but she rolled her eyes. "Then they can go screw themselves."
Percy laughed and gave her a fist bump. "Nice."
Okay, this was not the girl I met yesterday. She was so sweet and didn't have a mean bone in her body. I thought I had seen a part of her Percy hadn;t but guess not. She was a bit mean but now to me which was okay. It wouldn't stop me from liking her.
A waitress showed up at that time asking what we wanted to drink. We also all knew what we wanted to eat so we ordered that as well. Once she left I decided to ask how packing to move was going.
"How's packing going, Annabeth? You move tomorrow right?" I asked.
She nodded. "It's going great but that reminds me." She turned to Percy which confused me. Why would she turn to Percy about moving? "Have you even started packing yet?"
His cheeks flushed. "No."
"Percy! We move tomorrow!" Annabeth scolded. "When you get back to your dorm you better start packing because-"
I interrupted. "Woah, woah, woah! He's moving in with you?" I was shocked. Was he cheating on his wife (or husband)? "Percy, you're married!"
They both rolled their eyes and held up their left hands. Oh. They were married. To each other. That is so embarrassing. I had been talking about my crush to her husband this whole time!?
"Oh. You two are married." I swallowed thickly and blinked tears out of my eyes. "Why didn't you guys tell me?" I was so confused. This would never have happened if I would have known but I still felt attracted to Annabeth.
Annabeth shrugged. "It's what we do. My roommate like Percy two years ago and we messed with her a bit as well. And we did the same thing to my old roommate, Emily."
"That's just mean," I said. "But aren't you a little too young to be married? You probably weren't even dating for a year before you got married!"
Percy shared an exasperated look with Annabeth. "Why do they always say this?"
"I have no idea. Because people like to assume things." She turned back to me. "We were dating for four years before we got married. Maybe ask before you just assume."
"I've got to go," I said and stood, slapping $30 down on the table. "You guys can pay for your own. And Percy, I'm glad you're moving because I never expected you to be this mean."
Percy raised an eyebrow. "And I never expected you to be this petty."
I huffed and turned around to walk away but Annabeth stopped me.
"Mark, you asked me to come to dinner so I think you are paying for my dinner. $45." She held out her hand and I groaned but gave her the money. "Thanks."
"So rude," I muttered to myself and left.
-------
Once he was outside, Percy and Annabeth broke out into laughter.
"That was the best so far!" Annabeth exclaimed as she moved to sit in front of Percy. "And good things always come from it. I don't have to pay and I get a date with you."
Percy smiled. "I guess so." He leaned forward and kissed her, Pulling away he said, "I love you."
"I love you too." Annabeth smiled. "But seriously, Seaweed Brain. You've got to start packing."
"I know, I know," He laughed.
She gave him a thumbs up and he shook his head, still chuckling softly.
Gods, he loved her so much.
