18th Birthday 〜 Mirstie

Mitch woke up with a jolt of energy.

It was his 18th birthday.

He wasn't excited for the last year of high school, he wasn't exited for his party or anything.

He wanted to see his tattoo.

Oh, you don't know what that means?

On everybody's 18th birthday, they wake up with a tattoo of what their soulmate will first day to them.

Mitch looked at his wrists, arms, legs, and stomach.

No tattoo.

He went to the mirror to see if it was on his back. Still no tattoo.

He looked at his feet and saw the tattoo on his left ankle.

What did it say?

"I hate you."

Are you kidding? His soulmate would first say that to him? His friends had really cool ones, such as, "You're cute.", "Hello!" And "What's up, hottie?" But "I hate you."?

He wondered who it would be.

Mitch quickly got dressed and got his schoolwork together, and headed out for the bus.

He had only 76 days of school left, and his last year of highschool was going by fast.

After Mitch arrived, he speed-walked down the hall to get to his locker.

After collecting all his books, he started down the hall to get to his first class, math.

He was walking when he crashed into a shorter blonde girl.

She glared at him and started picking up her books that fell. "I hate you." She muttered.

Mitch continued to walk to math class. Was that her? That can't be her. He thought.

After math class was Biology. He took his seat, and the girl who he ran into sat a few seats behind him.

"Before we begin," the teacher began, "we have a new student. Come up here and introduce yourself."

The girl stood up and sluggishly walked to the front of the class.

"This is Kirstin."

"Hi Kirstin." The class said ina monotone, unwelcoming voice.

Kirstin? He thought. Well, it's nice to give that face a name.

A couple hours later, and the 5th period bell rang.

5th period was his lunch, and Mitch caught up with Kirstin in the hallway.

"Hi, Kirstin! I need to talk to you." Mitch panted from running.

"Do I know you? Oh yeah, you're that one kid who made me late to Spanish class." Kirstin tried to walk away.

"No! I mean, yes! Whatever. I need to talk to you. And my name's Mitch, by the way." Mitch grabbed her by the shoulder.

"Fine. Since I'm new I have no one else to sit with anyway." Kirstin followed Mitch, putting down her bag at a seat and going into the lunch line.

They both started talking after sitting down with their lunches.

"Do you know about the tattoo-birthday thing?" Mitch asked.

"Yeah. What does that have to do with anything?" Kirstin replied, taking a bite of her salad.

"Look." Mitch put his foot up on the chair and rolled up his pants slightly, revealing the tattoo. "Today is my 18th birthday."

"First of all, happy birthday, big boy. And second of all, who do you think it could be?" Kirstin sounded worried.

"First of all, thank you, hah. Second, I dunno, maybe you, because you are the only person I know who would say that to a person you didn't even meet yet." Mitch crossed his arms.

"That was the first thing I said to you today..." Kirstin shifted her gaze.

"Well, we're just gonna have to see." The bell rang.

The rest of the day, the two were caught talking in the hallways, even after school.

As highschool ended, the two went their separate ways, and forgot about eachother.

Mitch was going through his old phone, 27 years of age, and was looking at his old texts.

He saw the conversation with Kirstin.

"Hey, I remember her." He said to himself. "Maybe I should call her and we could catch up on eachother."

Right after he said that to himself, his phone started ringing.

"Huh, I don't know this number." Mitch picked up the phone. "Hello?"

"Hello! Is this Mitch?"

"Yes! Is this Kirstin?"

"Yes it is! And I have something I want to tell you."

"What is it?" Mitch bit his lip.

"Ever since we graduated from highschool, I have had this feeling, and well, Grassi, I think I love you."

Mitch smiled, looking at his tattoo.

"I do too." 〜
