Week ten #1. Garruta.
IN CONVERSATION
Hello. Is anyone out there listening?
Is anyone out there willing to look my way for a minute?
To help make this breathing soul’s breathing a little easier,
Because these glass walls that surround me seem to grow closer with every second.
I have for long tried to reach out,
I have screamed and pleaded,
But these glass walls are frigid and cold,
And my silent screams drowned out in the ocean of noise outside.
I have for so long tried to break free,
I have scratched and clawed till my fingers bled,
But these glass walls, they are merciless,
And with time my angst would quench within me.
After many suns that came and went,
I sat down and at last observed outside,
Invisible to the rest, I understood-
-I finally realised.
From within these glass walls,
The world looks so different,
I see shadows of the ghosts of the people that walk by,
Without even a second glance at anything.
Money and Power, Money and Greed,
Superior mentality, Superior brutality,
Running and running in an endless circle,
Chasing after things that don’t exist.
Where are the dreams that we once used to dream?
Can they be that easily, forcefully butchered from our brains?
I fear for the children of this world,
For will they ever taste the joy of dreaming fantasies and being just children?
The more I saw, the faster the glass walls seemed to push in,
Faster the space inside grew smaller, they started to suffocate me,
Faster the noise grew louder and I couldn’t scream,
And I did what I only could-I closed my eyes praying for this to end quickly.
And suddenly, there was only silence,
The huge weight on my chest seemed lighter,
I opened my eyes to see- glass walls,
Only that I wasn’t the one inside.
The world was enclosed in the very same glass walls-
-That once held me captive or so I assumed.
Oh how naïve and foolish! ,
Captive- it was never me, it was them.
Hello. Is anyone out there listening?
Is anyone out there willing to look my way for a minute?
To help make this breathing soul’s breathing a little easier,
Because these glass walls that I once thought surrounded me, might surround you too,
And for you to truly break free, they must grow closer with every second.
Because ultimately, in the end, isn’t that the truth? That-
-Every man’s wish is the wish to be remarkable,
Unbeknownst to him, surrounded by glass walls, he must only fool himself,
For all I hope is that you shall not be him.
But in all honesty, answer me or more so yourself,
Do you even dare to dream anymore?
