Poem Title: Ice Sculptures

Ice sculptures

We will all melt
We build monuments of stone and marble that will last for eternities
But in the end
We will all melt

Ashes to ashes.
Dust to dust.
Ice to puddles.

In the end we will go from ice sculptures to puddles
Some of us magnificently sculpted, adorned with the most beautiful decorations
Contorted into shapes that we thought the rest of the world would deem beautiful

We never knew true beauty

So those we deemed not beautiful suffered
The less desired sculptures plain and bare, we forgot that we are all formed of the same ice
But no extravagant jewels adorn their cold melting bodies

We demoralize those that remain bare, whether it is by choice or circumstance

Even though we will all eventually melt, we still continue to waste the time we have solid
Not enjoying the world around us, but instead worrying that others will find our melting ice undesirable

So we burn and cut away at ourselves In order to appear more perfect, in order to let out the pain

We were created as perfect beings in an imperfect world
Some of us have forgotten that

You will always be beautiful

But your figure will no longer matter after the transformation of matter from solid to liquid
The most pulchritudinous ice sculpture is still only ephemeral

You and I will soon fade.

We are but figures standing in the sun
The perfect picture of human life
And so when I die
When my plain figure of ice finally dissipates into a puddle no different from any one else's

All of us will one day return to each other

I want not to look on my life as something I lived for others
But to laugh as I disappear
Back as a drop into an ocean of love
Because that is what we are made of
Frozen love
And we will all melt

Ice sculptures

Borne of love and compassion
Some of that gets shaved off when sculpted
Some frozen in place when we are created
But when we finally melt
When we finally die and rejoin the ocean of love from which we originated
Love and compassion are regained
And dying becomes less frightening
I am not afraid to melt
Are you?
