Women! (Empowering Poem)
You have spent,
Your entire childhood,
Living in the land of fairy tales,
Waiting for your Prince.
Gleaming eyes,
Dainty tiaras,
Long dresses...
You've spent it wearing pink,
Playing with dolls,
And kitchen sets.
Never grumbling why,
Boys get all the cars and planes?
And get to go out,
Why your mum keeps you in,
Behind the curtains?
Girls, be aware.
That the society is,
Just playing on the edges of equality.
Feminism is still condemned,
It's just hashtag womenpower
In reality?
Hard core patriarchy.
We're made to be women,
To follow certain norms,
To be extra careful in
Covering ourselves.
Why so though?
Cause we're women.
That is ingrained in us,
Since we were a child.
He says, she's the fairer sex,
The weaker sex.
To hell with that.
She's the better half.
Behind every successful woman,
Is the woman herself.
She doesn't need support,
Of the society.
Society is just a cage,
Of rules that we'd rather break.
Why does Cinderella's feet,
Need to fit in the glass slippers?
Why can't she seek out the prince,
Instead of being a mute spectator?
Why does Snow White
Or even Sleeping beauty,
Need a true love's kiss?
Ever seen Prince Stephan
Or even Charming be so fragile?
Why can't you be Moana?
Why can't you be Pocahontas
Or make your own destiny,
Just like Hermione.
Don't you think that everything,
Our culture, our religion,
Our traditions, our literature,
Our films, our lives...
Everything shows us as weak.
Be Hermione, not Bella.
Be the one that commands respect.
Girls, it's high time.
Remember that the cyclones,
Are all named after us.
No job is forbidden for us anymore.
You don't just need to hide,
Or cover yourself,
From head to toe,
Be bold, be yourself.
For you, everyday is a women's day.
Everyone makes a lot of fuss,
About this day.
Why so?
Why not celebrate Men's day?
Cause they don't need recognition.
We're venerated on one day,
And groped and violated,
Raped and murdered on
Three hundred and sixty four others.
For the woman
Whom they worship.
Maybe as Durga or Kali,
Or as the incarnation of Mary.
They treat her like dirt.
For every woman that gets a job,
Five girls are married off early.
Why do we sacrifice our dreams?
Women, you're not
A mistake of creation,
Or a freak of nature,
Or even a thing to objectify.
But and sell,
And be 'given away' to the groom,
Pretending for it to be a marriage.
Women, you're not cursed,
Your childhood need not be snatched.
But yes, the world does.
Why?
Cause we don't protest.
Cause we don't try.
Cause we're meek,
Cause we're undemanding.
We're robbed of our pay,
Robbed of our dignity,
Robbed of our rights.
Even robbed of our humanity.
Someday no infant will be killed,
No female's life will be snubbed,
Before it could even blossom.
No wife would endure,
The fire of domestic violence.
But that'll be the day
When you speak,
Threaten, stand up, sacrifice.
Every one needs to know
What you're capable of.
Don't fit into glass slippers,
Rather you should,
Shatter glass ceilings.
Show them your fury,
Show them the determination,
Show them the fire in you.
Those men that assault you,
Those that oppress you.
They're cowards.
They're afraid,
That you're better,
Stronger, more intelligent.
One advice,
Don't let them win.
A/N Written in the honour of International Women's Day. Love you all... Stray strong always 👧👸👩👰🙆💁🙋🤷🤦🙍🙎💆💇💃👭
