Singing | Ch 05
The days went by, and test season arrived. This was her favourite season. She had taken a break from writing just to focus on her studies, the main cause being that she wanted to get higher marks than her male counterpart. She was sure that she was going to succeed this time around. She loved studying, and most importantly she loved to stay on top.
The morning of the first day of the test came, and she had gotten up early due to the excitement she had for the test. She did her usual morning routine which included bathing, dressing up, and eating.
"Hey, baby, how was your night?" Her mum asked while giving her a kiss on the forehead, while she was eating breakfast.
"It was good, how was yours?" she replied. Her mum knew that she had been studying for the past few days. She knew what type of daughter she had. Her daughter was a persistent being, and that was what she admired about her, she wasn't lazy AT ALL.
'I remember when I used to worry about her reading habits, turns out that was just how she is,' Her mom thought. Little did she know the reason for her daughter's "persistence". But there is no concrete evidence that this isn't her nature, right?
"I'm done now, we can start leaving!" She said with so much energy.
'I have never seen someone so happy to write a test,'
They both sat in silence in the car. Nóma went over the things she had read in her head.
'Mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell,'
It is weird hearing that from an art student, but it was part of their curriculum to borrow subjects from other corridors; Science borrows music which is optional from arts, and economics from commercial which is compulsory at their level; arts borrows biology, or physical education from science, and economics from commercial too.
The car ride came to an end as they arrived at the school premises.

The day had come to an end. Nóma was very happy as she knew that she cleared all the papers. They were child's play to her. She aimed to abolish her arch-nemesis, Folarin, and she was sure she had succeeded. They wrote five tests out of eleven subjects in total, the rest were going to commence in the next two days.
She left the class to go to the library, where she had been studying earlier during the break, to take her book which she had forgotten. Then she returned to her seat to do her routine one extra hour to study.
She opened her government textbook and started to glance through the pages, culling out the vital information that she needed, then she started to hear singing from the seat behind. It wasn't loud, but it surely was distracting.
"Could you stop that, please? It's distracting."
The singing went on, this time it was louder than before, and this made her blood boil. Then she turned with a scowl on her face.
"There is a study that shows that obnoxious people have lower IQ than an average person," She sparked.
"Or do you want me to tell you what obnoxious means?" She said in a taunting tone.
"Why do you have to be a bitch?" Folarin, who just happened to be the owner of the singing voice, clapped back.
"And why do you have to be so difficult? It was just a simple request that you failed to address, now who is being the bitch?" She said with a smug smile on her face.
"Whatever," He replied and started to leave.
"I thought so," She replied and went back to studying, he was furious but he decided not to act on it.
'Such a fool, he is always putting me in compromising situations, and we haven't even gotten to the middle of the term and we have three years together. How am I meant to adapt to this now?'
---------~-----
The test season had ended which means that she could resume her writing. She uploaded 2 new chapters for her lovely readers, especially her new online friend @wordsarewritten. From afar, their relationship might seem normal especially for the newer generation, but taking it with context shows how special it is. This is her first friendship with someone in the history of ever.
It is completely out of pocket for her to make friends in real life talk less of someone she doesn't even know online, so our dear Nóma has given us quite a shocker there, hasn't she?
The next week arrived and the results for the test and she saw her scripts. She had done excellently in all of them but she lapsed a bit in literature, Ironic isn't I, a prolific writer that had an issue with literature as a subject. She had gotten a 14.5 out of 15.
The grade calculation on a normal day is 15:15:70. The first and second C.A tests being 15% respectively, and the exams being 70%, but this term was 30:70 which means 1 C.A test and one exam. 15% to actual tests and 15% to other things like notes, attendance, and assignments.

Their midterm holidays had approached and they were having their final assembly before the students departed to their various homes. They were announcing the results for the top three students of each class. Nóma was particularly excited about this because she knew she was going to get higher grades than her counterpart. They had just finished announcing the junior school results, well gone were the times they announced last three too. In a field of anxiety, there was Nóma waiting for the result that was going to end her life's mission.
"...and for the SS1 to three best results, this is something that we haven't seen before. For the first time ever, the first two are from the art corridor," the principal announced.
Nóma was so assured that it was going to be her first then Folarin second.
"Coming in third place, Johnson Chike from SS1 A with 98%, and in Second place Ifada Nóma from SS 1B with 99.9%, and first Bakare Folarin from SS 1B....
