Chapter Three
Lucy looked around the prison visiting room and leaned back in her chair, settling into her Lacey persona. "I missed you, Daddy," she purred, her eyes twinkled, showing how amused she was by talking to Tim like that.
Tim gulped and hoped she couldn't see the desire he felt flash through him. "Me too, baby," he said, trying for a sexy growl. "I missed you."
"Tell me how much. Like how you did in your letters." She bent her head towards to him and moved her hand so her fingertips were almost brushing his on the table.
Tim leaned forward as well and looked into her eyes, trying to see if she was asking as Lacey or Lucy. He couldn't tell, so he just told the truth to whomever he was talking to. "You're all I can think about. With you in here it feels like I'm missing a part of myself. I dream about you every night, and I just wish I could be with you and hold you."
Lucy looked down so her hair made a curtain around her face but he could still see the blush on her cheeks. "Ti...Sammy...I miss you too," she finally said softly. He heard her take a deep breath and then pulled herself back into her chair, a businesslike mask falling over her face. She looked around again to make sure no one was listening to them.
"I know you want me to tell you all about my first few days here," she said meaningfully.
Tim sat up straight, reminding himself that this wasn't a date with a girl he was crazy about; he was supposed to be working. "Of course, baby, tell me all about it."
Lucy continued to look nonchalant and relaxed, anyone who didn't know better would assume she was just talking to her boyfriend, not passing on information to another cop. "I've met some nice girls on my cell block: Tatiana and Marie. We've been spending a lot of time together and I think we're going to be good friends."
Tim knew that those were two of the four main players who Grey had said were running the gang from inside the prison. It was impressive that Lucy had made contact with them so quickly. Even though Tim knew he was supposed to be listening to what Lucy told him like her fellow officer, he couldn't help but let some of his personal feelings leak out. "I'm glad you're making friends," he said, "but you're being careful, right? I don't want anything to happen to you."
"Oh, I know," Lucy teased, back in her Lacey persona, "You couldn't live if I didn't make it out of here."
This time Tim knew that no one could mistake the feeling behind his words. "You're right," he said, looking into Lucy's eyes, "I couldn't."
Lucy's breath seemed to catch in her throat. "Are you...do you..."
Suddenly the officer nearest them approached their table. "Visiting time is over," he said, not unkindly, "say your goodbyes."
They both stood up and Lucy walked over to Tim. She still seemed to be struggling to find the words she wanted to say to him. Finally with an exasperated exhale, she threw herself into his arms. She squeezed him tightly and pulled back. Suddenly she was kissing him, her hands tight on the back of his neck. The guard cleared his throat loudly and then broke apart, both a little breathless. "Write me soon," was all she said as she was led back into her cell.
