Muthyala Talambralu

Talambralu, or muthyala Talambralu (Pearl shower) is a ritual in South Indian Wedding, where the Bride and the Groom shower each other with Turmeric and Saffron mixed rice, a representation of prosperity and unbreakable bond of the bride and Groom. Sometimes, pearls are also used in place of the rice. But usually, the rice being staple food grain and being worshiped equal to god and given respect above any vastu, using rice is far more acknowledged.

"Now stand facing each other."

Narasimha Shastry said once everyone blessed the couple and took their respective places back. Shankaram Shastry was asking everyone to settle down for the rest of the rituals.

"Now abbayi, forward your hands and keep your hands on hers."

Raghunandhu and Parthavi did as said and then Narasimha Shastry placed a handful of colored raw rice, the Talambralu, on his hands and asked him to hand it to Parthavi.

"Without spilling this back into his hands, you have to pour it on his head, Ammayi."

Raghunandhu raised his brow as he kept his head high. Parthavi smiling stood on her tiptoes and she was able to reach him easily as she showered him with talambralu. Everyone cheered on.

Raghunandhu looked down at his bride smiling in victory and smiled. The moment their eyes met, he winked and Parthavi's face a beautiful shade of crimson. This made everyone yell and laugh making both Raghunandhu and Parthavi turn more red.

"Oh my Manavada! I have never seen my Amma Parthavi so shy and coy. You just won me with this feat of yours."

Sundaramudu said making Raghunandhu;s ears turn a dark shade of ruby.

"And now, my son is looking down shy, like a bride."

Durga said.

"Athamma, be happy that he is looking down only now. I thought we might have to hold his chin to make him look up all through the wedding given how Parthavi teases him and how he turns red."

Mahika said.

"I practiced all night to hold his chin Amma."

Bhargava said, teasing Raghunandhu more.

"Amma!"

Raghunandhu chided and looked up hearing a distinctive giggle to see his bride giggling. He narrowed his eyes at her making her laugh.

All this came to an end with a sound of clearing throat from Sundaramudu and Dharmaraju.

"Now abbayi, take the Talambralu from her and without spilling pour it on her head."

Narasimha Shastry said.

Raghunandhu looked at the talambralu and then at his bride who was looking down. Trying to make her look at him, He took his hands with talambralu to her chin, startling her, making her look up and then showered her with the Talambralu as he looked down at her and smiled.

"Ahan!"

Bhoomi said and gave Parthavi's shoulder a hit. Parthavi's cheeks bloomed in red even more.

"Abba!"

Harshita, Ishaani, Naz, and all the friends of Parthavi made noise.

"Now stand together, you both."

Shankaram Shastry had to raise his voice to be heard amidst all the noise. But once he was heard, everyone went on silent mode.

"Now, Pelli Kumara, take this Gandham Kumkuma and apply on the knots you tied around her neck. And apply Kumkuma on the Pelli Kumarthi's forehead."

Raghunandhu did all that was said and as he forwarded to applied kumkuma on Parthavi's forehead, between the hair partition, he looked down.

Parthavi's eyes met his. There was a beautiful emotion that he saw there. That emotion made him so happy that it made him feel so light like a feather.

But something was holding him down. Frowning he looked up to see that the headpiece Parthavi was wearing was stuck to her hair and was not letting him apply kumkuma on her forehead.

"This is why you should have your concentration on your work!"

Bhargava said as Manga helped him move the headpiece opening up the partition for him to apply kumkuma on.

Parthavi giggled and Raghunandhu narrowed his eyes to her promising retribution as he applied Kumkuma on her forehead.
