5. The Other Side

"How's the progress going?" The lead superior present in the room queried as we sat there in solemn, waiting for the designated one to respond to him.
"Sir, The progress isn't very much in terms of quantity but," I swear I'd noticed a movement in his camel-hump-like adam apple, As if he'd gulped but I'm quite certain he doesn't have any saliva in his mouth.
"Sir, The quality of the work we're doing is quite well, I assure you" He continued his statement after attaining a pause in between his statement, to recheck the documents infront of him.
The meeting room, Dark and gloomy, With only one source of light, A large table in the center of the room, A number of chairs sorrounding it's boundaries. No matter how many times we'd gather up in here, We'd always be farewelled by the disappointed face of the chief and in exceptions, It could be him tongue-lashing upon the ones to whom I report.
The guys were dismissed by the chief, Except for the alpha of our team, and it were about the time for all the white-coated men in our cluster to head to the laboratory, where we've spent more than half of our lives, Seventy-percent of the day in this lighted, modern room filled with complex scientific researches in the form of papers and material, and the remaining time to spend out of the room, out of this empirical world.
As we all headed back to our respective kind-of divisions on the table, I'd started observing the reading on the machine infront of me to check the radioactive waves given out by the invention I was working on. It was the amount unreasonable and unreasonably, Something has gone wrong with my calculations. Or alternatively, Something has gone wrong with this thing.
I'd tried all the ways to lessen it, after continuous practice of trying to calculate it all, I derived the thing that had been bothering this fella, the acceleration. This slight up-down in the model must have been some folly by one of these punks in the room. I smirked and scoffed and reduced the acceleration to a considerable amount and soon the reading went down.
As the problem was fixed, I raked my thumb onto my chin to see what else could make it more utilisable and more facilitative. The rusted noise of the door opening made me and others snap our visions onto the entrance to see the alpha entering the lab. He was all tensed up with all the pressure visibly depicted by his frowned up eyebrows. He came and sat on his seat and the first call he made was,
"Zero-Six" And that couldn't help much more than it did, for me to step up from my posture and move forward in the direction of his chair. As usual, he sat on the chair with one of his ankle placed on his thigh and his elbow on his leg, And his thumb and index finger on his chin. He always sits like the mf king he is...
"Sup?" I said casually while dragging a chair infront of him and placed my butt onto the wooden piece.
"Sup? Bloody sup you're saying?" He said with a disbelief full-on displayed on his face. I just shrugged and sat with my hands interwined with each other and elbows on my knees.
"Tell me the f*cking reason behind your project's deficiency" He said, he aking out his annoyance through his words, plainly knowing that I won't ever mind.
"It's just okay." I said, although the words may seem careless but my tone of speaking and expressions were clearly not such, but serious.
"We don't need something okay! We need it to be perfect! Everyone's projects have been completed and by this weekend, we're moving on to the next set and only you'll be left with so much work! Why the f*ck can't you take this serious! We've been working on it since an year yet our progress charts are so low!" He said with his feathers ruffled up, beads of sweat proceeding out of his sweat pores behind the boundary of his forehead. He was really pissed off, Truth be told.
"I'm actually working on it, Sir. We'll be fine till the weekend. I'll definitely update it upto your expectations, I assure you" I said convincingly, Trying to coerce him into keeping faith in me.
"I'm telling you, dude. This is way too vast for trivial mistakes or lacking. The practicality of your project is not suitable for the job it is being used for. Please work on it and give me results, Please" His voice was clearly quivering and very much coming out forcedly. We would never miss a chance to comfort him, So did I, Keeping my hand on his shoulder.
"Hyung, It's gonna be excellent. Make sure to have us at shots-heaven plaza" I said, faced by a sudden smile on his tensed up face, He nodded and gave a pat on my shoulder, indicating me to continue my work.
I sat on my table for hours and hours and observed each and every function of this model, How would it be connected with WiFi and How can it be portable in any place. The requirements given by the chief were for it to be convertible, connectable, indestructible and inexplicable. Two of the above were already available, Connectivity, convertibility. We all don't know why we were being ordered to construct these kind of gadgets but I could tell it for sure that this was to combat our enemy.
In order to bring about the ability of cannot-be-destroyed, It was necessary for me to use very hard kind of metal and for this purpose, I've selected Tungsten, Owing to it's qualities of resistance, longevity and strength, and most importantly, Environment friendly.
It's the most suitable metal I could use to make it but it still has limitations, it can easily be rusted and then may lack in working. This sample needs to be perfect so that more like this could be made. Tungsten has the largest tensile strength, ability of resisting being pulled apart. But it still yields less.
"Why didn't you use Tungsten Carbide" Said the male keeping his large hand on my shoulder, almost freaking me out.
"That's a good suggestion but how could I use a carbide? It's not suitable for sustain shocks or relieved loads" I put up my opinions for him to rake his finger on his chin, Commonest habit of his.
"But it can resist deformation and deflection easily" He argued back, to which I couldn't deny to agree.
"You're right in your place. But wouldn't it be a very enervating task to convert Tungsten into it's carbide?"
"Would it be easy to make the same thing using another metal? You don't even have that much time, Zero-Six"
"I'll consider that fact, Zero-Two. Thanks for your suggestion, I'm really grateful."
"It's okay, Do complete it with perfection. We don't want to leave you behind on the weekend when we'll be having fun" He said winking at me and giggled cutely with his hoarse voice.
"When is Zero-three arriving? I'm missing him already."
"He's off to get the queen back into the troop"
