Din Djarin-Two Of A Kind
You're a Mandalorian and you don't trust anyone else. You just keep to yourself and stay clear of anyone who makes you feel suspicious.
Then one day, you come across another Mandalorian. And things get complicated.
Swearing, innuendo and violence, but not much.
.....................
You don't need anyone. You're a one person band. You go where you please and do whatever the hell you want.
Sure, you took the damn Mandalorian creed and you follow it to the best of your ability.
But that doesn't mean that you can't live life your way, either. You hadn't ran across too many of your own kind since you swore the oath of the Mandalorians.
There's been a few, but whenever you interact with them, they seem just as leery of you as you are of them.
Mandalorians were once a well respected race. Now, if you asked most people, they'd tell you that Mandalorians were just out for themselves.
They weren't completely on the wrong path when they say that. A lot of the other Mandalorians you saw were just that.
Selfish, callused and distrustful of anyone who they crossed paths with. You were no exception.
All you wanted out of life was to do your own thing and try to fly under the radar and keep your head down.
Until one day, everything changed.
.....................
You're on Noth, cold and snowy. You actually never minded the place. If you asked most people, they'd say this place was nothing but a frozen wasteland.
Not in your opinion. You kind of liked it here. Probably because of the fact that it was so damn cold, there usually wasn't too many people out and about, which was just your style.
You enter a dimly lit catina, the noise isn't terrible. There's a few sketchy characters bunched in small groups seated at the small, wooden tables throughout the catina.
You go and order something to eat and drink. You almost change your mind about being hungry after seeing the shit you're served.
Sigh. Oh, well. You'll choke down as much of the shit as you can and go see if maybe you can find something a little more salvageable at the market.
You quickly finish, bit wanting to stuck around this craphole any longer than necessary. Cantina's too often draw too much crap and you don't care to get in the middle of it.
You're slipping out the door when you crash into another heavily clad... Mandalorian.
Since you're both wearing your helmets, it's impossible to know if this a male or female Mandalorian. You quickly discover which because the Mandalorian speaks.
"Watch where the hell you're going." A male. Ohh, you smirk. You'd bet an entire chest full of credits that this asshole thinks he's some tough guy.
"Watch yourself, asshole!" You snap and quickly hurry off, away from him. This is precisely why you fly solo. You have no patience for assholes like him.
......................
You wander around the outdoor market, trying to find something edible to take back with you.
At last, you come upon some people selling some kind of dried, wild berries and meat.
Hell, it looked much better than that shit you tried to choke down at the cantina.
You take your food and head for your ship. It's nothing fancy, but it gets you where you want to go.
You reach your ship, only to find that other Mandalorian leaning against it, arms crossed and clearly studying you.
It pisses you off. You suddenly notice that he has a little green guy with him. You freeze. You remember seeing one just like that, a few years back, when you'd landed on Coruscant.
Except that one was much older than this one. This one was clearly a youngling. You can't help but wonder why he has the child.
"Are you going to be a problem?" You ask, opening up the back hatch of your ship.
"No. I was just curious about you. I haven't come across too many like us in my lifetime."
"Me neither," you admit. "By the way, I noticed your.... little... friend. He reminds me of another one I saw, years ago."
Mando quickly straightens up, almost as though somebody shocked him with a lazer.
"Where?" he demands, coming closer. You immediately reach for your blaster, if this asshole tries anything.
"Back off!" You growl, low. Mando obeys, stepping backwards.
"Maybe if you asked me nicely, Mando, instead of just demanding."
"I'm sorry. It's just I have no idea what species he is. I thought maybe you could help with that."
"Actually, I'm not sure what species he is," you say. "I've only seen one other one about ten years ago. On the planet of Coruscant. That was one was much older."
"I was given the task of returning him to his own kind, The Jedi."
You snort. This guy is definitely a crackpot. There aren't any more Jedi left. They all died out years ago after Darth Vader captured and killed all of them.
"Where the hell have you been, Mando? There aren't any more Jedi left. They're all dead."
"No, they're not. There's still some around. I was told so."
"Okay. Look, I've love to sit around all damn day and shoot the shit with you, but I need to be on my way."
You enter your ship, about to close the back hatch.
"Can't you help me? You're a Mandalorian, same as me. You swore the creed. Please. Let's go to Coruscant. Maybe what I'm looking for is there."
"What do I get out of this?"
"Half a chest of credits." You ponder this.
"All right. Let's go."
.......................
It takes you a couple of hours to reach Coruscant. Once you and Mando land, you go in search of, well, you're not sure what.
"The one I saw, he was involved with the temple." You point to the huge temple set directly in the middle of the vast city.
"That's where we'll start. By the way, I don't normally share this with others, but my name is Din Djarin."
"Y/N," you say.
"How long have you been a Mandalorian?" Din asks.
"Since I was about, twelve."
"Same. Well, closer to ten."
"I like it. I prefer my own company."
"As do I."
"Where'd you find the kid?" You ask.
"He was a bounty and I was supposed to...kill him. But I chose not to."
"He is sort of cute," you say, looking at the child. He looks back at you and you get this weird feeling from him.
"Halt!" Some guard won't let you pass.
"We want to see the older one of his kind." You gesture towards the child.
"That's not possible. Leave."
"Can't we just see him for a minute?"
"No."
"Let us through, or I'll blast my way inside." Mando grips his weapon tightly and aims it at the guard.
"Even if that works, you won't get very far."
Mando suddenly blasts the guard, who drops to the ground, not dead, but severely wounded.
Mando starts running you up the stairs and you have no choice except to follow him.
.......................
"What the hell is wrong with you? This isn't going to work!"
"We're in, aren't we?"
"Until more guards arrive and blast us."
"Just keep your head down and follow me."
You scowl. This is precisely the sort of shit you want to avoid. You follow Mando down a long corridor. Nobody else seems to be around. Strange.
"You two! Halt, in the name of the force!" Shit.
"Don't stop!" Mando growl at you. As if you'd actually be stupid enough to stop.
You start running and end up in some training room. Mando is peeking out the door, blaster ready.
You walk around the room, looking at shit, wondering what sort of training goes on here.
"You know, Mando, if you wanted to make sweet love to me, we could have just stayed on the ship."
"Very funny." Suddenly, a figure in a dark robe approaches you from another end of the room.
"Uh, Din? We got company." Dun whips around, blaster ready.
"Who are you and what are you doing here?"
"We're looking for his kind," Din says quietly.
The figure takes the hood off of his face. It's a man. He looks fairly young, maybe in his thirties.
He approaches Din and the child. A strange expression crosses his face for a moment.
"That would be me."
"Are you Jedi?" Din asks softly.
"Yes. There... there was another like him, but he's...gone now."
The man takes the child from Din.
"Can I at least say... goodbye?"
"Of course."
Din takes the child back and tells him goodbye. You can tell by the sound of his voice, he's struggling not to cry.
The man takes the child back and leaves.
"How the hell are we supposed to get out of here without getting blasted to pieces?" You snap.
The man returns. He smiles.
"Don't worry. Just walk out. No harm will come to you."
You start walking, wanting to get away from here as quickly as possible.
You and Din walk out, u harmed. It's as though you're invisible. (Jedi are a strange sort. Maybe you have been turned invisible.)
"Well. I guess I'll say goodbye. So goodbye."
"Wait! Maybe we could work together?"
"I don't think so, Din. I'm sorry."
"Oh. Okay. Goodbye."
But as you're starting to walk away, you know that you can't do it.
"Wait, Din. We can stick together. For a while anyways. See how things go."
"That sounds good to me."
