Chapter XXXIX: Ready

"What is it?" I asked. Frito glanced between Tuff and Wash. "Frito, tell me, dammit."
"He wants to kill you, Mira," Frito said seriously.
"Oh."
"Yeah, 'oh' is right." Frito looked at Tuff. "Did you find out anything else?"
"Well, sir..." Tuff trailed off, looking at the ground as if it were the most interesting thing. "You see sir, one wolf was talking to another about how Ross was planning to attack in a fortnight. But sir, the wolf saw me the day before."
"So you think they could be giving false information..." Frito trailed off. "Hm."
"Yes, very odd sir. However, when he saw me he almost seemed... well, relieved." Tuff frowned, confused.
"Oh?" Frito looked surprised. He turned to Wash. "What do you think?"
Wash tipped his head to the side. "I'm not entirely sure. It seems it could go either way."
"Okay." Frito paused for a moment. "Okay, so here's my idea. We prepare for their attack in a fortnight just in case, but we'll carry on as usual. This attack will happen eventually, it could be very soon. So we must commence preparations."

Camp was buzzing with the news of a possible attack. A few wolves rushed across the clearing with bundles of sticks to help reenforce the bushes surrounding the entrance. Ember and Korea were giving instruction on basic medicine. Wash was schooling the youngest pups on where to hide, as well as basic battle moves in the event that Ross's warriors managed to get into the rear cave. Gravy helped Needle pull brambles across the vines that protected the dens.
I was sitting with Frito, who was overseeing everything, and Tuff, who had been running around delivering instructions.
"So, we'll be ready," I said.
"Yes," Frito replied. "We'll be prepared."

A/N:
So, question: does the plot seem like it still exists?
Cause I was just thinking, Mira's biggest enemy was her mother, but she's dead, and her siblings joined her side, so I feel like this book is just running on and on and on.
I don't know. We'll see.
