Chapter IX: Howl

Ember darted in front of me, baring his teeth. I growled, snapping at the Emperor as I walked up beside Ember.
"My name is one you shall never hear again," I snarled.
"We'll see about that," he spat, beginning to circle.
I matched him step for step, and when eventually he pounced, Ember had vanished. I jumped to the side with only a second to spare, skittering a few feet away before looking back at him again.
"Are you scared, little she-wolf?" He taunted. "Are you?"
"Never," I seethed, barely containing my anger as I waited for him to make another move. "You will never kill me!"
I finally pushed off the ground, fed up with waiting. I almost missed, but managed to catch his hind paw in my teeth.
"Ah, you bitch!" He screamed.
I bit down harder, and he screamed louder. As he dragged me around in hopes to free his leg Frito and a few others burst in. When they saw the situation, however, they simply sat back and snorted.
"Get off me!" The Emperor commanded again.
I ripped my claws across his sides, hooking them into his fur. He writhed in agony as I let go of his leg and pulled myself onto his back, biting his ear. He tried rolling over, but I clung to his fur, tearing up as much skin as I could. Finally he gave up and I bit down on his throat. He died quickly, and was dragged outside to join the other bodies littering the clearing.
Ember walked up beside me. "Nice."
I jumped. "Where'd you go?"
"To fetch Frito," he replied, sitting down and lifting a paw.
I rolled my eyes, opening my mouth to say something, but I was interrupted by a howl.
