Chapter III: Stay Away
Chapter III: Stay Away
A growl rose in my throat. "Stay away from her."
The wolf looked up at me. "I wouldn't do that if I were you. You shouldn't challenge the wolf with the power."
He ran a paw across Tanisha's throat. I tensed.
"Anyway, you can have her back."
I blinked. "What?"
"I said you can have her back," he repeated. "I'm not the wolf who took her. That was the Omega, he was promised a better rank if he could abduct enough rogues."
I sat down. "And what does that have to do with me?"
"Well, your pup here-"
"She's not my pup."
"Fine. This pup here is one of those rogues." He pushed her towards me a little, standing. "I'll be on my way now."
"Wait!" I called as he started walking. He turned. "Who are you?"
"That's unimportant." He turned away again. "Go home, stay away from the pack, and keep your pup close by your side."
"She's not my pup!" I exclaimed.
He turned around again. "Then whose is she?"
"My sister's," I said.
"Anyway, go home-"
"Who are you?" I asked again.
He sighed, sitting down and licking a paw. "Why do you ask so many questions?"
"I said, who are you?"
"I'm just another wolf."
"And why did you take her from this Omega?"
"To save her from a life she doesn't want."
"What does that mean?"
"The one taken by the Omega becomes the Omega."
"What's an Omega, anyway?"
"You really are clueless, aren't you?" He asked.
I snarled.
He rolled his eyes. "The Omega is the lowest rank in the pack."
I nodded slightly. "Oh."
"Anyway," he said, drawing out the last syllable. "I'll be going now."
As he turned to walk away again, I asked, "Who are you?"
And he smiled. "Don't ask so many questions, Mira. Stay away from the pack."
I blinked, and he was gone.
"Mira," Tanisha whined. "Can we please go home now?"
I nodded absently. "Sure."
I grabbed her by the scruff and turned, his words echoing in my head the whole way home.
