•Ch.9•
WINTER HAD TURNED TO SPRING, the frost on the grass had melted away and the coats and scarfs were put away as it grew warmer.
Lillian enjoyed spring time, and as the months went by Thor was growing into a bigger thunderbird. He was growing and growing and was no longer the little hatchling that Lillian saw come out of the egg. Everyday when she would come and visit Hagrid and have tea, she could see Thor grow bigger and bigger. Even though he would still want to sit on Lillian's lap as if he was still a baby.
During this time as well, she began to build her homes in her carpet bag. She had already built an inside forest, planting saplings in a soil that she placed her self and was hoping that bow truckles like Newt, that she saves and find can live, or creatures like Occamy, or Diricrawls. She was hoping later on she could build a large desert home for creatures like Thor, or Runespoors, or Nundu. She had many ideas to where to keep certain creatures, to protect and care for them. Making an aquarium, a field, etc. but she would have to make it bigger and she needed to start little.
She had already started a little bit and hoped to do more during the summers and perhaps start to rescue creatures. If she had to be in hiding, she could spend her time focusing on her carpet bag.
Lillian was in her dorm as Hermione and their other roommates were in the dining hall. Icarus was sitting above her desk as she worked on her homework, Newt was on her shoulder, and Jewel was on her bed and playing with a shiny coin.
Lillian's studies were going well, especially with Hagrid's class. After his class she would always spend time with him afterwards, playing with buckbeak and Thor in the pen. Feeding them pumpkins and giving them all the attention they wanted as Hagrid worked on his garden.
However with all the news with Lillian's parents and with her family home, she grew worried. Wondering if this disastrous year would be her last, she would have to stay with Remus, and even then she couldn't risk the lives of the students at Hogwarts.
Lillian continued to work on her stuff when she heard a tapping at her window and looked to see a bird. She went over to the window and opened it for the bird to come. It was Atticus again and she sighed, knowing another letter was for her. She looked at the letter seeing if it was from Abe or Miss Peregrine.
"Thank you Atticus." Lillian said and gave him a treat and him devouring it quickly.
She opened the letter and saw it wasn't from Abe or Miss Peregrine but Emma. Lillian's eyes widened and began to read the letter from her sister.
Dear Lillian,
Miss Peregrine told us what has happened and everyone in the house is devastated. We hope that we can send letters and gifts, we want you to know we love you. We hope you stay safe from Barron, if he gets his hands on you, we can't imagine what he'll do. This is from all of us from the loop, when you wear it, it'll remind you that you'll always have us.
Love,
Emma
Lillian looked into the letter and saw a necklace inside, she grabbed it out and it was necklace and with a small rock attached to it. She knew it was a rock from the beach in Wales, to keep a little place from home.
She put it around her neck and touched the rock and felt happier to have it with her. To feel her family close with the necklace. She went to Atticus and she began to write a letter.
Dear Emma and Everyone in the house,
I love you all with all my heart and I wish I could come home. It has been a hard year but I'm willing to protect you and hide than risk your lives. I will always wear this necklace and cherish it until I see you all again. Stay safe, and don't forget about baby Theo.
With lots of love,
Lillian.
Lillian places the letter in the envelope and gave it to Atticus.
"Take it to Wales, please." She said and opened the window Atticus.
Atticus hooted and flew out the window and Lillian watching as Atticus flew to her home in Wales, wishing that she could do the same.
••••••••
Lillian couldn't sleep that night, she kept tossing and turning in bed. Her thoughts spinning after thinking about all that has happened.
She still couldn't shake the thought of Barron and the hollows. Every time she close her eyes she was reminded of those bright white eyes staring into her and she couldn't stop thinking about it.
She turned her head to see Newt sleeping in the flowers next to her bed, as well as Jewel sleeping on top of her pillow, and Icarus sleeping soundly next to the window.
Lillian turned to see all her roommates sleeping and she decided to leave the common room. She silently got up from bed and placed her robes around her. She grabbed her wand, and slipped on some slippers and exited the dorm room.
She was glad no one was awake at the hour and when she exited the Hufflepuff common room she held her wand up.
"Lumos." She said and her wand lit up, she looked around to make sure Filch wasn't around and she began her journey to the Gryffindor common room.
It wasn't hard to find where she was going, she went up the many steps and looked at the paintings as they rested peacefully. She smiled when she saw of the people laying down in funny positions or some of them snoring.
She walked up the final step when she was met with the Fat Lady portrait.
"Hello Elizabeth." Lillian said softly and the fat lady looked at Lillian in confusion.
"Dear Lillian, what are you doing up so late?" She asked.
"I can't sleep, I was hoping to come here." Lillian said. "Merlin."
After Lillian said the password, Elizabeth opened the painting door and let Lillian in. Bidding her a goodnight and Lillian did the same. Elizabeth always liked Lillian, even though many of the students didn't appreciate her, she was glad that Lillian did.
Lillian entered the Gryffindor common room and when she went up the boys dormitory she was torn. She looked to her left and right and she didn't know if she should go to Harry or Fred.
Even though she wanted to be with Harry, her heart wanted to be with Fred. She went to her left, and when she saw the familiar door she opened the it.
Lillian saw the familiar bed, and went over to where fred was and kissed his cheek. She shook Fred and when she did he was a bit startled.
"Wha-" Fred said groggily and then his sight was clearer. "Lillian?"
"I can't sleep." Lillian whispered. "Can I sleep with you?"
"Of course love." He said and scooted over. Lillian took off her robe and removed her slippers and got in bed with him.
Fred held her in his arms and kissed her forehead, she smiled and placed her hands on his chest.
"I'll always be there for you, love." Fred said.
That was the last thing Lillian heard before drifting into sleep. Knowing that she was protected and that Fred was beside her was all the comfort she needed.
••••••••••
It was the next day and Lillian was going to ask Hagrid how Buckbeak's hearing was. Harry, Hermione, and Ron were accompanying her to see how it was as well.
"Beautiful day." Hermione says looking up at the sky.
"Gorgeous, unless you been ripped to pieces." Ron says bitterly.
"Ripped to pieces? What are you talking about?" Harry asked confused, Lillian looking the same.
"Ronald has lost his rat." Hermione said angrily as Ron accused her.
"I haven't lost anything, your cat killed him, or it could have been Lillian's Phoenix." Ron said and Lillian gasped.
"Icarus doesn't like rats, he prefers mice or fish." Lillian told him and Ron shook his head.
"It's rubbish." Hermione said and walked ahead of them and Ron turned to Harry.
"Harry, you've seen the way bloodthirsty beast of hers always lurking about. Scabbers is gone."
"Maybe you should learn how to take care of your pets." Hermione yelled and went over to Lillian the two girls walked further from the boys and to Hagrid's hut as Ron complained to Harry.
Lillian and Hermione went down the steps, and could see Hagrid's hut. Lillian however didn't see Hagrid in his garden as usual. She did see Thor, but no Buckbeak and Lillian could see Thor was sad, Lillian opened the gate and Thor came over and snuggled into her body and she began to pet him.
"Where's Hagrid?" Harry said, looking around his hut.
Lillian looked around and saw that Hagrid was by the lake, skipping huge stones. Lillian pointed and the three of them looked to where Lillian was pointing. They went over to the lake and Lillian lifted her jeans higher and went into the water next to Hagrid. Harry sat down and Hermione and Ron stood.
"How'd it go Hagrid. The hearing?" Lillian said and went next to him.
"Well first off, members of the committee took turns on to why we were there." Hagrid then threw another stone. "And then I got up, spoke my peace said How Buckbeak was a good hippogriff always cleaned his feathers."
Hagrid then sighed and Lillian knew it got worst from there.
"And then Lucius Malloy got up, and well you can imagine he said "Buckbeak was a deadly and dangerous creature who would kill you as soon as he looked at you." Hagrid continued and threw a stone.
"And then?" Hermione Asked.
"And then he asked for the worst, that old Lucius." Hagrid told them.
Lillian gasped and Ron beat her to the question.
"They didn't sack you, did they?" Ron asked.
"No I'm not sacked." Hagrid said sadly, throwing another stone.
Lillian looked up to Hagrid and tears were in his eyes and looked at Lillian.
"Buckbeak's been sentenced to death." Hagrid wailed and he threw a stone not caring if it'd skip.
Lillian gasped and she shook her head, she hugged Hagrid as the both of them cried. Lillian had known Buckbeak since her first year and the news of the Hippogriff being sentence to death broke her heart.
"Isn't there anything we could do?" Lillian said looking up to him. "Buckbeak was only defending himself."
"I'm afraid not, the decision is final." Hagrid said. "Thor can see something is wrong, and now I'm afraid if Draco tells his father about Thor they might take him away."
Lillian shook her head, and she looked at Thor as he laid on the grass.
"They are not taking my baby." Lillian told Hagrid. "They can't." She whispered to herself.
"I just might have to keep him in the pen, or something." Hagrid said. "Perhaps I can talk with Dumbledore and perhaps Scamander's son can take him."
"No, I know where I can keep him safe." Lillian told Hagrid. "Just give me a couple days and I'll be able to take him, I just need to write to someone." She said, lying.
"Okay, just be careful." Hagrid told her.
Lillian nodded and looked at Thor and knew that is was no better time than now, she knew that she would have to get him safe and the only way was a place under her bed.
She was going to put Thor in her Carpet bag, the first creature she would ever put in there.
