•Ch.10•

IT WAS FINALLY THE END OF CHRISTMAS BREAK and sadly it was the beginning of school again. Lillian was in the dining hall with Cedric and Hannah doing their homework and talking about how they spent their Christmas break as they all sat and ate lunch. Newt and Jewel were in her dorm as Newt decided that he wanted to stay in the common room plants for the day. Jewel wanted to come but Lillian knew better and promised the Niffler she would spend time with her.

"I wish I could of stayed at Hogwarts with you." Hannah said sadly. "I was stuck with my parents and my terrible Aunt Minnie. She kept showing me pictures of all her cats."

"It couldn't be that bad." Cedric said as he took a bite of his food.

"She has 10 cats and showed me each costume she put on them." Hannah said. "If I ever become my aunt Minnie, you need to end my life."

"It wasn't much thrilling really, though I can tell I wouldn't want to switch vacation with you." Lillian said, laughing. Lillian looked over to the Gryffindor table and Harry waved over to her and looked at her two Hufflepuff friends.

"Do you mind if I sit with my brother? I'm helping him with some homework and he refuses to ask Hermione after she was "to hard on him" as he puts it." Lillian said and Cedric and Hannah nodded.

"No problem, we'll see you in class or in the common room later." Hannah said and Lillian got up and went over to the Gryffindor table.

Lillian sat beside Harry as Hermione looked at Ron and saw him with his cards he got from those chocolate frogs.

"Look at you! Playing cards, pathetic we've got final exams coming up soon." Hermione said but Ron rolled his eyes.

"I'm ready, ask me any question." He told her and Hermione smirked and Lillian stifled a laugh and both knew it wasn't going to end well.

"Alright, what are the 3 most crucial ingredients for a forgetfulness potion?" She asked.

"I forgot." He responded and Lillian tried not to laugh.

"What may I ask are you going to do when this comes up at the final exam?" Hermione asked him.

"Copy off of you or Lily!" He said and Hermione shook her head.

"No you won't, besides according to Professor McGonagall we are to be given special quills bewitched with an anti cheating spell." Hermione explains.

"That's insulating as if she doesn't trust us." Ron says astonished.

"Yeah, you would never cheat Ron." Lillian says sarcastically. "As you just said you'd copy off of me or Hermione."

Soon the room began to fill with laughter as Neville came into the hall and hopping as if his feet were tied.

"Malfoy." Harry says assuming he had done the deed.

"You have got to start standing up to people Neville." Ron says to him.

"How? I can barely stand at all." Neville says loosing balance and catching himself. Seamus got up excitedly with his wand in hand.

"I'll do the counter curse." Seamus said and Neville grew worried.

"No that's all I need, you to set my bloody kneecaps on fire." Neville said and Seamus puts his wand down in anger.

"I don't appreciate the insinuation Longbottom, besides if anyone currently notice my eyebrows have completely grown back." Seamus says and then takes his stuff and leaves but as he turned around they all noticed a bald spot caused by one of his spells.

Soon Harry grew excited as he grabbed the Dumbledore card and saw Nicholas Flamel.

"I found him!" Harry said and Lillian turned to him.
Ron grabs the card and reads it to Lillian and Hermione,

"Dumbledore is particularly famous for his defeat of the dark wizard Grindelwald in 1945, for his discovery of the twelve uses of dragon blood, and his work on alchemy with his partner Nicholas Flamel!"

"I knew the name sounded familiar I read it on the train that day." Harry explained.

Hermione grabbed all of her items and Lillian did as well as Hermione looked at the boys.

"Follow us." She said.

They all began to leave until Neville tried to hop after them.

"Hey! Where are you going? What about the counter curse?" He shouted and the fell over, Lillian looked back at Neville and told Hermione to go without her since she knew where they were going.

Lillian ran back over and took her wand out and did the counter curse letting Neville's legs be unlocked.

"Thanks Lily." Neville said relieves as he was happy to walk again.

"No problem Neville, if you get into anymore trouble I can help you okay?" Lillian said. "They put you in Gryffindor for a reason, cause somewhere down there is a lion."

Neville nodded and soon Lillian was out the door and going to catch up with the three.

•••••••••

Lillian saw Harry and Ron sitting at a table and she joined them not before finding a few books.

"Hey sorry I took long, I saw these books and wanted to do light reading." She said and placed a lot of books down. Both boys looked at the books and were shocked.

"That's light?" Ron asked and she rolled her eyes and smiled.

"You should see her idea of heavy reading." Hermione said and came around with a book in her arms. "But I had you checking in the wrong section. How could I be so stupid!" She then launched the book onto the table making a loud thud.

"I checked out this book weeks ago for light reading." Hermione said. "Lillian recommended it to me."

"What's with you two and reading books?" Ron asked getting a glare from the two girls.

"Of course here it is!" Hermione exclaimed, Lillian looked at the page and read out loud.

"Nicholas Flamel is the only known maker of the philosopher's stone." She said and the boys were confused.

"What?" The two boys asked.

"Honestly don't you boys read?" Hermione asked And they shook their head no.

"As I was saying the philosopher's stone is a legendary substance with astonishing powers it can transform any metal into pure gold, and produces an elixir of life that can make a being immortal." Lillian read.

"Immortal?" Ron says.

"It's means to never die." Hermione explains to Ron but he rolls his eyes in annoyance.

"I know what it means!" Ron exclaims.

Harry shushed him and Lillian continued to read from the book.

"The only stone in existence belongs to Nicholas Flamel the local Alchemist who last year celebrated his 665th birthday." Lillian finished and their eyes widen from the man's age and all looked at each other as they put the pieces together.

"That's what Fluffy is guarding on the third floor, that's what he's guarding under the trap door, the philosopher's stone." Harry said and all of them grew worried.

"We need to talk to Hagrid." Lillian told them. "Since he knows about this then he's our best bet for answers."

The four of them packed their things and decided to make their way to Hagrid's hut after classes. They knew they had to stop whoever was trying to gain the stone. If they took the stone, what would they use it for and if they did, what would happen?

•••••••••••

It was later that evening the four of them went to Hagrid's hut to discuss the new information with him. They all ran up to his hut and knocked on the door waiting for him to answer. Hagrid opened the door abruptly and saw them.

"Hagrid!" Harry said.

"Oh hello, sorry don't wish to be rude but I'm in no fit state to entertain today." He said trying to close the door.

"We know about the philosopher's stone!" They all said and Hagrid then opened the door again, his face shocked and mouth opened. "Alright come in."

Hagrid opened the door more and letting them all in. Harry began to explain everything to Hagrid as they all came in.

Lillian came in last and was greeted by Hagrid's dog, Fang. She let the dog pounce on her and give her sloppy kisses and ran around her. She laughed as she patted Fang's head and went over to the table and Fang followed the girl and laid down by her feet.

"And we think Snape is trying to steal it."Harry said, finishing explaining.

"Your still not on about that are you?" Hagrid said, laughing.

"Hagrid we know he's after the stone, we just don't know why." Harry said, still being persistent.

"Snape is one of the teachers protecting the stone he's not about to steal it." Hagrid said to them with a sigh.

"What?" Ron Asked.

"You heard, come in now I'm a bit preoccupied today." Hagrid said, grabbing his oven mittens.

"What a minute? One of the teachers?" Harry questioned.

"Of course there are other things defending the stones aren't there, spells, enhancements." Lillian says.

"Of course waste of bloody time if you ask me ain't no one gonna get past fluffy, no soul knows how except for me and Dumbledore." Hagrid said and when he realized what he said he shook his head. "I should have not told you that, I should have not told you that, I should have not told you that..."

Soon his pot in the fire pit began to tap and Hagrid went over with a smile on his face and grabbed what looked like an egg. Lillian followed Hagrid to the table and saw him placing it on the table.

"Hagrid what exactly is that?" Harry asked.

"It's a- it's a -" Hagrid began to stutter until Lillian remembered reading about it.

"It's a dragon egg!" She exclaimed getting a look from all four of them.

"Hagrid how did you get one?" Ron asked.

"I won it by a stranger I met at the Pub seem to be glad to get rid of it, matter of fact." Hagrid explained.

Soon the egg began to move and crack, Harry, Ron, and Hermione began to back away from it. Lillian and Hagrid stayed right there and watched as it broke open and a baby dragon appeared stretching its wings as it broke free. It looked around and saw Lillian and immediately went to her for comfort and jumped into her arms.

"Oh, well look at him he's such a sweetheart." Lillian said while petting him and letting him snuggle into her arms. Hagrid smiled and looked at the baby dragon in amazement.

"So it's a dragon." Hermione said still surprised that a baby dragon hatched in front of them.

"Not just any dragon it's a Norwegian Ridgeback." Ron said and looked at Harry. "My brother Charlie works with these in Romania."

"Isn't he beautiful, blessings looks like he knows his mummy is Lillian." Hagrid said went over to Lillian and scratched under his chin.

"Hello Norbert." He said.

"Norbert?" Harry asked.

"Well he has to have a name doesn't he?" Hagrid said.

Hagrid and Lillian still fawned over Norbert until he spit out fire and singed Hagrid's beard. Lillian eyes widened as Hagrid tried to stop the fire and sighed when it went out.

"Well he'll have to be trained up a bit of course." Hagrid said laughing, Lillian laughed as well as Norbert snuggled into her arms again and yawned.

"He seems to like Lily a lot- Uh who's that?" Hagrid said and they all looked at the window and saw Draco Malfoy from the window.

"Malfoy." Harry says with anger.

"Oh dear." Hagrid says. "You lot better get back to the castle, I don't want to be dragged into this."

Lillian tried to give Norbert to Hagrid but Norbert clung onto Lillian for dear life. Lillian's eyes were full of panic and when Hagrid was grabbing Norbert, Norbert began to screech and cry for Lillian.

Lillian couldn't bear to hear the baby cry so she took him back into her arms. He stopped his screeching and the three looked at Lillian.

"Oh dear, that's no good." Hagrid said.

"What?" Harry asked.

"Norbert imprinted on Lillian." Hagrid said.

"Imprint?" Ron asked.

"It means he's attached to Lillian." Hermione explained. "If you try to separate Norbert and Lillian, Norbert won't be a happy dragon."

"What do we do? Draco is running to the professors and I can't bring a dragon with me to school." Lillian said.  Hagrid looked at the four of them and sighed.

"Lillian will need to stay here, I can explain it to Dumbledore." He said and looked Harry, Ron, and Hermione. "Go you don't have much time."

The three looked at Lillian, hesitant to leave her alone but she looked down at Norbert.

"Go, I'll be fine." She said they all knew she was serious and ran out of Hagrid's hut.

••••••••••••

It was about an hour after Harry, Ron, and Hermione left Hagrid's hut. Lillian even tried to put Norbert down but he just kept screeching. Hagrid felt bad and kept apologies but Lillian told him it wasn't his fault that Norbert was attracted to her fiery red hair.

"You can sleep on the couch if you like Lily, don't you worry about Norbert but I worry when-"  Hagrid was cut off when someone knocked on the door. Lillian was still sitting in the chair with Norbert until she saw Professor McGonagall, Professor Sprout, and Headmaster Dumbledore enter the hut.

"There she is." Professor McGonagall says and looked at Lillian.

"We heard that you had a new creature to your household Hagrid." Professor Dumbledore said and looked at the dragon in Lillian's arms.

Hagrid looked nervous when Professor Dumbledore stared at the dragon and then Lillian.

"And Miss Potter We must discuss your punishment."
Professor McGonagall said. "Though that's in the hands of Professor Sprout."

Lillian stood up with Norbert in her arms and walked over to the Professors in shame.

"I understand, I had no right going out during the night and coming down here. I take full responsibility and I'll take any punishment suitable and I'm sorry for worrying you professors and for ruining your sleep." She said and the Professor were pleased with what she said.

"Apology accepted but since you did sneak out 25 points from Hufflepuff will be removed and you will have detention with your classmates tomorrow night." Professor Sprout said.

Lillian nodded and continued to pet the dragon and Dumbledore looked at Norbert sleeping.

"And Hagrid about the dragon, I'm afraid to say this but he must go to Romania to be with his kind and will be under the care of Charlie Weasley." Dumbledore said to Hagrid. "I had Mr.Weasley contact his brother with a letter and shall receive notice soon."

"Please Dumbledore he's already grown attached to me especially to Lillian the reason why she had to stay down here was because every time she leaves he screeches." He said.

"I understand but he cannot stay here unfortunately but he will be safe I promise you." Dumbledore reassured him.

Hagrid tried not to cry and nodded, Lillian began to hum and Norbert curled closer to her.

"Miss Potter, you and the dragon have a close bond, perhaps while he goes I can arrange for you to go and help this little dragon after the year is over." Dumbledore says and Lillian's eyes widened in delight.

"It would be an honor! But can he at least stay tonight so Hagrid and I can spend more time with him before he leaves?" Lillian asked.

"Remember Miss Potter you do have class tomorrow." Professor McGonagall told her.

"I understand and I've actually gotten ahead of all my studies." Lillian explained.

"Then I see no reason why you can't help Hagrid tomorrow, it's alright to be excused from your classes." Dumbledore says with a smile.

Lillian smiled and hugged the Professors without waking up Norbert and soon left Lillian and Hagrid with Norbert.

"Well there goes my dream of letting Norbert roast marshmallows." Lillian says sadly, seeing Hagrid was sadden by the thought of Norbert leaving.
