All of the hundreds of apes had finally escaped the dreadful Colonel McCullough. Chimpanzees, bonobos, gorillas and orangutans walked together towards their new home with Caesar leading them and Rocket showing them the way. It was a long journey, around a four day walk.

They walked through forests and deserts and soon they eventually made it. Hills with the greenest grass and a large lake in the middle. They all ran around the new place except for Caesar, (Y/N) and Maurice. Caesar and Maurice sat on a rock, overlooking the apes, and (Y/N) sat in a tree that stood behind them.

They all sighed as they watched the apes explore. Caesar sat still before sliding down a little on the rock. Maurice looked him, like nothing was wrong, but then gave a surprised and worried expression as he looked at Caesar's right side. (Y/N) noticed this and jumped down. She kneeled next to Maurice and looked to where he was looking. Half a stick, an arrow, stuck of out Caesar's side. Blood slowly dripped from the wound. (Y/N) gasped.

"Why didn't you tell me?" She whispered. Caesar smiled and held her hand.

"I didn't want you to worry. We..needed to get here as...soon as we could." Maurice sighed in slight annoyance and shook his head as if he was saying/asking 'why'. Caesar then took Maurice's hand.

"Don't worry... Maurice." Tears began to roll down the three faces. "You are all home now." Caesar smiled as he tightened his grip on Maurice's hand. "Apes are strong... With... or without me." Caesar pet Maurice's hand before he watched Nova, Bad Ape and Cornelius chase each other around. Maurice looked back to Caesar.

"Son... will know... who was... father." Maurice spoke clearly for the first time. Caesar gave a slight nod as saying 'thank you'. Maurice continued, "And what... Caesar... did... for us."

Caesar held hands with Maurice tightly then faced his sister. (Y/N) looked to the ground with her eyes closed as tears fell. Caesar put his finger under her chin and lifted her head up.

"Please don't go..." (Y/N) whispered as her voiced cracked. Caesar smiled sadly as he too cried silent tears.

"You are... with your family. You are... safe." Said Caesar.

"But you're my family, my brother... my best friend."

"Sister, you are... my best friend too. And I ask you... to take over... until Cornelius comes of age."

(Y/N) was shocked. Take over? As leader. This was a big favour to ask but, "For you, Caesar...anything." The siblings gave one last heart-filled hug.

"I love you, (Y/N)" Caesar whispered.

"I love you too, Caecae." (Y/N) whispered back. They separated and Caesar gave a deep sigh before he slowly closed his eyes and leaned to the left. He came closer and closer to lying on his shoulder.

"Caesar..." Maurice cried. (Y/N) kneeled in front of Caesar as he drifted away. She placed her hands on his knees and cried.

"Oh no... no... please please." She said repeatedly.

Caesar laid down, completely gone. Maurice cried with (Y/N). Eventually, all the apes had stopped what they were doing and looked up to where their leader was lying. Rocket hooted and walked up to Maurice, Caesar and (Y/N). He looked to (Y/N) who had her head down then he looked to Maurice as Maurice shook his head sadly. Rocket hooted quietly as he sat down next to (Y/N). He rested a hand on her back as he too, let tears fall.

(Y/N) rested her wing around Rocket. All the apes walked up to the fallen leader. (Y/N) stood up which made all the apes go quiet, knowing that the woman must be feeling heartbroken due to her connection with the legendary hero. (Y/N) took a step back and kneeled down. She then reached out her hand. Soon the entire ape colony copied her action to show their respect.

After about 20 seconds of this happening, (Y/N) stood up once again and said to Maurice, "We'll burn his body and scatter the ashes across the lake. So a part of him will always be with us." Maurice stood and nodded.

--------------------------------------------------------

It became dark when Caesar's body was placed onto a wooden platform just above the growing fire. A few minutes past as the flames became bigger and brighter. The apes hooted loudly for their leader, their king. There was no doubt that this was going to have a massive effect on everyone and it would take a decent amount of time to let it pass. Of course, it never would, it would never become easier, it would never leave the minds of those who lived in the time of the ape who changed history. And that was a good thing.

I do have a quick question and I would really appreciate it if you gave your opinion:

Would you like me to continue you this story? Like the future of (Y/N) 'leading' the apes? Her relationships growing with the apes? Please answer!
