It's been six months. Six months of traveling. Six months of struggling for survival and safety. So what's happened during those six months? Well, Caesar's baby son has gotten his name: Cornelius. Blue Eyes has met a female ape that he likes: Lake. (Y/N) has replaced her old clothes with leather wrappings used as leggings, and a long-sleeve-top, fox skin wrapped around her forearms and neck/half her face and she used the bandages that Ellie put around her wing as a bra. The only thing she didn't make was the black combat boots she stole before escaping the man who kidnapped her.
The ape population had grown a little larger, more children to keep track off. Cornelius and (Y/N) had gotten extremely close over the past few months. If he wasn't with his dad, mum or brother, he was with her, cuddling in her magnificently large and comfortable wings. The colony had been moving up to a different forest, away from their previous home. They hated leaving all they had built behind but they knew it was for the best.
Food and water had been hard to get. Food was easier, they caught animals they found and tried to share them around as best they could and some of the fur went to (Y/N) for her clothes and weapons, the rest went to everyone else warmth.
Water, however, was a different story.
They found lakes and rivers along the way but it was dangerous being out in the open, especially with so many of them. And with nothing to carry the water with, made it very difficult, but they managed. They made it to their new home in around seven months of traveling. The seventh month was the hardest.
In the seventh month, finding water had become extremely difficult. There were only a few rivers where they were walking, and only a few animals were around because of the lack of water. So the apes had to stop for many breaks and regain all their strength before they could move away from the river. It seemed like they were walking forever. But eventually they made it up to a hill covered by trees. They climbed higher and went over and soon they found... a walkway? A small tunnel, obviously created by humans. And what they saw was amazing.
A massive waterfall that flew down past a large rock formation. A path lead the apes towards the giant rocks and they found a huge clearing, like a cave. With a few alterations, this would be a perfect place to live. It had enough room for hundreds of apes, separate areas in the caves, and most importantly: safe, if nobody found it.
So Caesar had made his decision, they would stay here until they found a better place to live.
Majority of the apes slept in the largest area, some slept on ledges on the walls. Caesar and his family lived in another part of the cave. A tunnel/walkway was found in the rocks, leading to another 'room'. It was large but not as big as the other 'room', an open wall was covered by the waterfall that ran calmly past it, a huge rock was in the middle of the space and ledges where all around the walls.
A bigger ledge caught (Y/N)'s eye so she flew up and looked around. It was the size of a large bed, she would draw different carvings on the walls and maybe even create a makeshift pillow out of plants.
Overall, the apes were happy with what they found. But they also knew that it would be temporary. One of the things (Y/N) had noticed is that everyone had started families. Many of Caesar's friends had wives and children. She knew that Caesar thought of her as a part of his family and she does too, but she would like someone to, well, love. But since there were no humans around, it was sort of impossible. She's thought of some of the male apes that she's gotten close with but she doesn't feel anything except strong friend connections. Eventually, (Y/N) had given up looking for a boyfriend or mate or whatever. She thought that it wasn't worth desperately trying to look for a partner. Maybe in the future, she would think.
In the time of six to eight months, the apes had built structures, including a massive, huge wall that stood on the top of the hill just before the entrance of the actual 'home'. It was built using logs and spears. Logs for the actual wall and spears poking out from the bottom outside part of the wall for defence.
Just on the other side of the wall, the side with the waterfall, was a small but long building for resting apes who were on lookout duty. Since (Y/N) had become close with the gorilla guard, she was made second in command. Luca, of course, was first in command. (Y/N) still had her job as sky lookout and would tell the gorillas what to do and where to go if there was an attack.
It had now been 15 months since leaving the Redwoods in San Francisco. One year and three months with no attacks. It had been a peaceful time in their temporary home. Easy to catch food because of the water that lured the animals. Easy water, for obvious reasons. And one interesting thing (Y/N) found was that she could communicate with birds.
One of the things that helped this was her wings showing the birds that she was one of them. So in her spare time she would sit in her favourite tree, which was just above the wall by a few metres, on her favourite branch and talk to the birds. Her personal favourite, (B/N), a hawk with beautiful light and dark brown feathers. They became best friends and were always there for each other. (B/N) would scare off the little annoying birds that pestered (Y/N) and (Y/N) would protect (B/N) while (B/G) was on the ground with her.
Overall, (Y/N) loved it here. But she knew they would have to leave sooner or later.
