Chapter 21: To the City
A/N
(Y/N) Your Name
"Signing"
"Talking"
Everyone was asleep. All except Caesar, he woke up at around 4:00am. He walked around the house then made his way up into the attic. While he was looking around, (Y/N) sensed a noise and woke up and saw that Caesar wasn't on the couch. She slowly and quietly got down from the ceiling beam that she laid on and made her way to find Caesar. As she was walking around, she saw the attic stairs were open. She smiled and made her way up the stairs and saw Caesar sitting on the edge of their old bed.
"Hey." (Y/N) said quietly as she walked over to him. She noticed Caesar was holding an old filming camera. "What you watching?" She asked. Caesar stopped the video and put it to the start. He moved to the left a little to make room for (Y/N). (Y/N) sat down next to him and watched the video. It was of them when they were learning to sign different words on the kitchen table with Will.
"Okay guys, look. Apple. Apple." Will repeated. The children copied what their father did. "Good. Now, home. Home." (Y/N) did the action while Caesar stared into space. She told him to focus but Caesar laughed and they began a small fight. "Hey, hey. Come on, stop." Will said. (Y/N) and Caesar laughed as they watched the video and recalled the memory. The kids stopped fighting and faced Will then hugged him. The three sat there for a second before the video ended.
(Y/N) and Caesar let silent tears roll down their cheeks. They smiled at each other before Caesar put the camera down on the bed. "I miss him so much..." (Y/N) said with a shaky voice.
"Me too." Caesar said. Then they heard footsteps behind them.
"Sorry... I didn't mean to intrude. It's been three days. He still is not back yet?" Relating to Blue Eyes and his recent departure, Malcolm came through the attic and stood near the ape and winged girl. "Who was that? In the video?" Malcolm asked hesitantly. (Y/N) looked down as Caesar put a hand on her knee.
"A... good man. Like you." He said. Then they all froze. Noise came from outside the front of the house. Caesar looked out the window and saw Blue Eyes, Maurice, Rocket, Luca and other loyal apes. He smiled at (Y/N) and said, "They're here." Then they made their way down and outside the house.
Caesar went first while (Y/N) followed. Caesar stood next to his son and and the others. Blue Eyes hugged his father then hugged (Y/N). After being so worried about the both of them, he was glad to see that they were okay.
"They need to get to the tower without being seen. I'll take them through the subway." Malcolm said before kissing Ellie.
"I love you." She whispered.
"Koba sent for the females and young. They're on their way. Mother too." Blue Eyes signed.
"Must go. Now." Caesar said to Malcolm.
Malcolm led the apes through the subway and near the tower that was surrounded by Koba and the rest of the apes. As they walked across the subway tracks, Caesar stumbled but (Y/N) was next to him every time. Then suddenly, sounds of gunshots were heard. They all ducked and went over to a small covered area next to the tracks.
"Who's there?! If you're human you better say so!" A man yelled.
"It's me! It's Malcolm! Don't shoot!" Malcolm yelled back. "Stairs, take the stairs. They'll be rounding up on the street okay? Go." He said to Caesar.
"Thank you." Caesar replied with a breathy voice.
"Trust." Malcolm said before the apes let Caesar past and walk up the stairs. (Y/N) gave a nod to Malcolm then followed the rest of the apes. "Alright I'm coming out! Don't shoot!" Malcolm yelled then walked over to where the other humans were calling from.
Caesar, (Y/N) and the apes walked through the turning bars at the front of the building and walked outside to see small fires, blood and bodies everywhere. Humans and apes. Dead. They made their way over to the building that the other apes were on. A long ladder led up to the top and that's how they were going to get there. Caesar went up first and about three quarters up, he got tired and began to slow down. (Y/N) was waiting at the bottom of the ladder for all the apes to go up first. She wanted to wait as long as possible before using her wings, then she saw the apes slow down.
(Y/N) looked up and saw Caesar struggling. She gave a quick breath and raised her wings and beat them as hard she could. She soared into the air and stopped once she reached Caesar level. "You got this, okay? Only a little more to go... Caecae." (Y/N) said the nickname smugly. Caesar faced her and smiled while she smirked, so he kept going. At the top, all the apes looked down to and watched them climb but there was one ape who wasn't pleased.
Once all the apes got up to the top, Caesar stood strong but exhausted. Luca put a hand on his shoulder but Caesar gave a friendly nod, showing he was fine. He continued his way towards Koba. They both stood on a bar that held the tower together. They death stared each other, Koba holding a rifle in his right hand.
"Caesar has... no... place here. Apes follow... Koba now." He said darkly.
"Follow... Koba... to war." Caesar said back.
"Apes win war! Apes together strong!" Koba yelled. "Caesar... weak." He said with an evil smile on his face, gun in hand as he slowly stepped closer to the leader of the apes. Caesar didn't change his expression.
"Koba... weaker."
(Y/N) remained standing next to Blue Eyes and Maurice and whispered, "oh shit."
