Chapter 6 (Ballroom Blitz)

Reader's P.O.V.

Pearl and I were actually just in time for the musical performance to start. As we made our way into the auditorium, we got seats that where eye level with the stage. Who knew so many people actually enjoyed an event like this. Just after a few minutes of waiting, the place was full of people. Eventually the lights started to dim down and the conductor came on stage to introduce himself, the music players and the pieces that they were going to play. The music started out light and soft, meanwhile, on the projector a motion picture was being shown because the music being played was also telling a story.

The story was about a boy who had an obsession with music but the only downside was, he was terrible musician. Still he was determined to make his dream come true to play the instrument he loved so dearly, the violin. Even if the music he played was ear shattering to everyone, to him, it was glorious.

After a minute of watching the performance, I glanced back at Pearl who's eyes seemed utterly glued to the stage in front of her. It was nice to see she was enjoying it, I bet she was thinking that she never knew how talented humans can be when they actually put all their effort into the things they do. It just goes to show that we can be just as surprising. I also knew that Pearl was always prepared when the Piano or violin had their little solos. If Pearl had her own theme song, I bet the piano or the violin would be the main instruments used to create it and in all honesty, that would fit her perfectly.

Sadly, she seemed almost disappointed that the performance ended, as everyone on stage bowed and the crowd cheered. This was actually really nice, being here with Pearl. Still, the day was still young and we had plenty of day light left to do more things together. I just needed to figure our what. A lot of things had to be canceled, like dinner reservations since she doesn't eat. Steven also use to mentioned how Pearl doesn't like things that are considered a waste of valuable tie that could be used more productively so the arcade is out....and certain sporting events....and movies....maybe.....but what about dancing?

Pearl certainly looks like she does ballet or something, not to mention her outfits are further proof on the matter so I decided to bring it up as we left the auditorium.

(Y/N): So, Pearl, how would you like to go dancing? I rented us our very own ball room.

Pearl: That sounds preferable.

(Y/N):Yes!

I cheer in my head. Dancing with Pearl sounds preferable indeed.

Pearl's P.O.V.

I actually enjoyed the first event (Y/N) and I went to. He sure was making an effort to do things I liked. That was very considerate of him. Now I find that we're going to the ball room he was talking about. To think Empire City had so much to offer and with each passing hour, I was actually having a wonderful time. As (Y/N) and I walked back to the car, we now set our minds on our new destination.

Time skip.....

Driving through the streets of Empire City, it was a wonder that we managed to avoid traffic. Vehicles were everywhere as I scoped out the large building of the city. Eventually we came to a stop in front of a large and fancy building. It kind of reminded me of the motel Steven, Greg and I had went to....

(Y/N) got out of the car and quickly led me out like he did a few times previously and we walked inside. It was empty inside, except for a few people who were there to play music for us who gave us warm welcoming smiles. I watched as (Y/N) walked up to them and whisper something. He then distributed a fair amount of money to each of them as they began to play a musical piece that I was unfamiliar with.

(Y/N): A little something to fit your style.

Pearl: It sounds...unique.

(Y/N): Because that's what you are. Now, if I may.

(Y/N) held his hand out to me.

(Y/N): Care to dance with me?

I took his hand as he pulled me closer to him. I was still uncertain about the sudden contact between us and pulled away from him slightly. I noticed that when we're close like this, I have a tendency to blush and I was hiding it, not wanting him to see. He didn't seem to notice it as he led me to the center of the dance floor.

(Y/N): I'll be honest. I may not be a professional dancer like you but I've danced with my mother a few times and I'm pretty confident I can keep up with you.

At least he was confident in what he did. I haven't seen confidence so strong in anyone since...Rose...and as (Y/N) and I glided across the ballroom, she was all I could see. Eventually, I was imagining I was dancing with Rose and not (Y/N) at all. It was like a dream, a dream that once was a reality and not that dream is no longer with me. Rose is gone, the person I was when she was here is gone but I just couldn't accept that and I just felt so alone, so worthless until....

Pearl: NO!

(Y/N): Pearl? Is there something wrong?

I turned away from him.

Pearl: I can't....I can't do this with you....I can't forget about her....

For a moment it was silent and I hoped (Y/N) was angry or sad towards me to the point he would just leave already but as I listened and waited for the sound of his shoes going towards the door, he never moved. His foot steps only became louder and louder, bouncing around the room until I felt his arms wrap around me in the warmest most comforting hug and in that moment it was like I was at the battle field all over again....when Steven had said that he thought I was pretty great.
