Reader's P.O.V.

After the crazy incident between Pearl and I, the Gems were in a heated discussion over how Pearl and I fused in the first place. Garnet gave me a really detailed description of fusion so that way I was caught up. Everything made so such sense now. Of course Garnet could get me to understand since she was a fusion herself but after I brought up the idea about my ring, it just created more questions on the matter.

Garnet: Exactly where did you get the ring (Y/N)?

(Y/n): I honestly don't know it's origin. It's just an old family heirloom and I recently got it from my grandmother when she passed away.

Pearl: Did she have any special connections related to the ring.

(Y/N): I don't think she knew anything about gems or knew any, out family would know. As far as we knew, it's just a regular ring.

Amethyst: It's obviously gem related though. What do you think Peri?

Peridot: I have a theory, although it might be sketchy but it may answer most of our questions.

Steven: Go ahead Peridot. Explain.

Peridot: I have  theory that the ring is in fact gem related. It's possible that the ring is from an onyx gem on home world who was sent to Earth for purposes unknown. The gem could have been attacked if it came during the time of the war. A shard from the onyx gem would have broken off but the shard wasn't big enough to actual create real damage, thus cracking it and rendering it. The gem shard would have most likely been found by a human and used to make jewelry where (Y/N)'s ancestors would have gained possession of it and passed it on from generation to generation.

Pearl: This is a great possibility but that doesn't explain how a tiny shard from gem still has power when it isn't whole.

Steven: Well just look at Lapis. Even though she was cracked, she was still active even though I fixed her gem for her later on.

Pearl: But a shard is like a body without a head.

Peridot: But think about it. The black onyx is thought to have protective properties and to bring inner strength, self-confidence and mental discipline. Additionally, the onyx is said to help to release negative emotions and alieve many illnesses. It's also believe that the onyx is unlucky, but others consider it to be virtuous and to protect against black magic. Every Gem is made for different reasons. Pearls are servants, rubies are soldiers but what if this shard IS the onyx's special purpose?

Garnet: The ability to lose shards of it's gem but still have those shards contain magic. It's perfect.

Amethyst: But what would be the purpose of that?

Pearl: That way, even if an onyx Gem is broken down, it can still work  unlike other gems. Once we are shattered, we are gone

Steven: Shouldn't you all know this already?

Peridot: Onyx's aren't really talked about much, since they really don't serve a more valuable purpose. Their more like gems that are better used as charms. Their still considering the production of onyx gems so their description is still a little hazy.

Amethyst: I think I get it. So basically, each shard sort of has a mind of it's own.

Garnet: Exactly.

Pearl: If that's the case, then the shard still has some magical abilities but not all of them since it's not with it's entire gem anymore. Fusion is still capable but without it's whole gem it doesn't have a body to contribute to a fusion and thus used (Y/n)'s body as an embodiment.

(Y/N): That does make a lot of sense. Though it doesn't do much now. I never really noticed when it would glow. It seemed like it was trying to do something but couldn't but when I'm wearing it, it seems to glow rapidly when I'm with Pearl and I'm starting to think that it was trying to make e fuse on numerous occasions but that was during the time that Pearl and I didn't have the same feelings for each other.

Steven: So it has feelings too. It's so considerate. It wanted the perfect fusion, not just one with a random gem that you didn't have anything in common with.

(Y/n): Because then it wouldn't be as powerful. With a perfect fusion, it can let it's abilities flow through me.

Steven: And that kind of makes you a gem hybrid like me!!! or does the jewelry have to contain an onyx.

(Y/n): So does that mean that human can fuse with gems if they have jewelry.

Peridot: But we wouldn't be able to test this idea since that ring of yours is almost one of the few or IS the only piece of jewelry on Earth. No Ge would allow themselves to become a human's accessory and even if they are shards whose to say that the original gem still works or if their shard just turns out to be useless.

(Y/n): It's like the more answers we solve, the more questions will pop up. Still, I'm glad we discovered this sooner. It kind changes a lot of the things we believe about gems up until now.

Pearl: I know. Just think of all the possibilities. I wonder if Rose knew about something like this?

Garnet: Probably not. This doesn't seem to be a very serious matter and also a secret one that we just so happen to discover.

Peridot: But at least now we know. We have more help now that (Y/n) is capable of protecting himself, us, and the Earth.

Garnet: Peridots right and I think the two of you should become more comfortable in your fusion. You'll have to teach (Y/n) to link his mind with yours Pearl so that you two can become one without falling apart. I'm very proud of the both of you but even more than that, I'm happy for you. You get to experience what it's like to be bond to someone you care so deeply about.

(Y/N): I-I see.

Fusion must be a really serious and beautiful thing, sort of like the equivalent to a human marriage. Though being one with Pearl didn't seem like a bad idea at all. it kind of felt like one of my life dreams. It may take time to get use to but eventually we'll be an effective pair, I was sure of it.....
