(Pearl's POV)

I was the dork of the school. I was the one everyone bullied. I was the one everyone laughed at. I was the one who was stupid. An idiot. No one cared about me.

And that's the way things are. And how they're going to stay.

I've already accepted it. All of it. I knew nobody would change. Why would they?

My thoughts were interrupted when I bumped into my locker and dropped my books. "Oof!"

Everyone laughed. Like I expected. I leaned down to pick up my books, when some one pushed me over and I fell onto the floor. Everyone laughed louder.

As I got up, tears pricked my eyes. I set my books into my locker, pulled out some other ones, and then quickly walked to my other class. (Lol is that how it works idek) I was always a bit late, thanks to incidents like the one before.

I walked into class and sat in my seat. The teacher looked at me sympathetically, before looking back at the board and writing something down. She always made me smile...

(Tiiiiiiime Skip)

After school, I got an unsettling feeling. I mean, I never felt good after school, but this time it felt... Weird. Like something was supposed to happen.

As I walked, the feeling started to grow stronger, until it actually kind of hurt me...

I was suddenly tackled to the ground. I couldn't see who did it, but whoever did dragged me to an alleyway and threw me against the wall. "O-Ow..."

They laughed, and kept throwing me against the wall. Of course, a puny, depressed twerp like me couldn't do anything to stop it.

They pushed me down on the concrete floor, and started chocking me. I tried to pull their hands away. One of them got out a pocket knife and drove a fine cut down my cheek.

I tried my best to scream, until one of them spoke, "Depressed, eh?!" Two others started kicking and punching me, while the one with the pocket knife raised the knife above my wrist, "Why don't I just do your job for you!"

They shoved the knife into my wrist, as a hand covered my mouth to muffle my screams.

They stabbed both my wrists three times. I cried, and cried. It was so painful, but I couldn't stop it. I was helpless.

Yet I see this as no surprise. I've always been helpless.

They kept kicking. And kicking. And with each and every kick it hurt even more. Every kick had more tears form in my eyes. Until I couldn't bear the pain anymore. My vision began to grow blurry, and I fell unconscious.

(Garnet's POV)

'What a nice afternoon for a jog!' I thought, as I jogged down the street. Since I was homeschooled, I never left the house much. That's why I went out jogging every afternoon! So I could at least admire the sun and the colors and alleyways and- hOLY

There's a girl here! She... She looks really hurt...

I ran into the alleyway and turned her over. She was cut and bleeding, battered and bruised. She had obviously been hit multiple times, until it hurt so much she fell unconscious.

I have to help her! I cannot leave her here like this! She needs help.

I picked her up, bridal style, and ran back in the way of my house.

Every few minutes I looked down at her. Why would someone hurt her? She's pretty! It's always the pretty people who get hurt! Which I don't get at all.

When I got to my house, I pushed through the door, where I saw my mom sitting on the couch watching something.

"Mom! Mom, I found this girl in an alleyway, she was unconscious."

My mom ran over to me and looked at her, with a panicked expression.

"She's really hurt, mom, we need to help her!"

She nodded, "I'll get the First Aid!" She ran upstairs to the bathroom.

I walked over to the couch and laid the girl down. She looked peaceful, yet hurt. Like she didn't care about herself...

My mom ran back down the stairs with the First Aid kit and quickly started to patch her up. She cleaned her cuts, stitched them up, and covered them.

'Thank God my mom used to be a doctor...'

She finished up and closed the kit. "Well, that's it. Now we'll just have to wait until she wakes up. Then we can take her home."

"Thanks mom."

She smiled and went back upstairs to put away the kit.

After a few minutes, the girl started to shift. She opened her eyes slowly.

"Hello..." I said, as she looked up at me.

She struggled to keep her eyes open.

"Are you all right?"

She nodded, and carefully sat up. "Who are you?"

"I'm Garnet! A-And you are...?"

"P-Pearl..."

"Pearl?" I stared at her.

"I-I know... It's a terrible--"

"No, no no! I love it. It's a beautiful name." I smiled. She looked at me confused, "Why are you being so nice to me?"

"What do you mean?"

"Nobody likes me... I'm just a stupid twerp... No one loves me."

"Well... I do! I think you're really pretty! And whatever happened to you definitely shouldn't have happened!"

Pearl smiled and blushed. "Th-Thank you... I'm not used to getting compliments."

"You're very welcome! Now... Can you call your parents? We have to get you home--"

"No, no. I live alone... I only get money from my sister, Sardonyx... I have my own tiny apartment..."

"O-Oh... Well, do you ever get lonely?"

"Always..."

I frowned. I didn't want her living alone. She didn't deserve to. She deserved to live in a real house, with real friends, real family.

I breathed in sharply, "...What if I told you, you could live somewhere else, live with someone?"

"What?"

"I could just ask my mom! She's very considerate! I'm sure she'll let you stay, I--"

"Oh, no no. I can't do that... You don't want someone like me in your life..."

I sighed, "You're right. I don't want someone like you in my life."

She nodded, but I quickly wrapped my arms around her, hugging her tightly.

"I need someone like you in my life..."

She sniffed. She was crying...

"Look... I don't have any friends... But if you're here, I feel like you'll be the only friend I need! We've only known each other for a few minutes, and we've barely talked, but I feel like you will make my life so much better, and I'll make yours just as amazing!"

Pearl smiled and cried some more. "I-I'm sorry for crying... I know I'm really emotional..."

"You're fine, Pearl. Don't apologize! You don't need to."

"Thank you. Thank you, so, so much!"

She laughed, and I got up and yelled for my mom.

"MOM! WE HAVE A NEW MEMBER OF THE FAMILY!!"

I could hear my mom scream from upstairs, laughing.

"That's wonderful! I never caught her name, though," she ran to the couch and asked, "Excuse me, what's your name?"

"Pearl."

"Well, Pearl," she held out a hand for her to shake, "Welcome to the Stelle family!"

"Th-Thank you, Ms.Stelle!"

"Oh, please. Call me MOM!"

She laughed and hugged her. Pearl giggled nervously as she hugged her back.

Pearl then ran to me and hugged me tightly, "Thank you..."

I chuckled, "You've said that enough..."
