Chapter 16 -
You were confused. You were discombobulated. You were puzzled. In fact, this whole shenanigan was a puzzle. Who were these - questionable - people? Who was that baby? Why was your Mum there? Why did she have this?
You shook your head quickly, in disbelief. Again, you examined the photograph, trying to convince yourself it wasn't her. But it was. No matter how much you disliked it, that was your Mother.
Most importantly, however, was how dangerous this gang was. You presumed they were gems due to their colourful, abstract appearances and questioned your Mum's relevance to them.
"Garnet! How does she know them? Why does she know them?" You frantically asked, desperate for an answer or some comfort. A tear formed in your left eye as you thought about the worst thing possible. Steven noticed this and quickly crawled over to you to give you a reassuring hug. You didn't feel it.
Garnet looked at the picture she took from your hands. Her facial expressions changed a few times in reaction, but she mostly just frowned at it. Unable to understand, she kept quiet. Amethyst opened her mouth to speak but closed it again, thinking over the joke she was about to make and how it was inappropriate to say in this situation.
"(Y/N), you must understand that gems have used this planet for as long as humans have. It's expected to have some sort of connection between both species. Just look at us." Pearl rested her hand on your shoulder, giving it a light squeeze.
You nodded, seeing how that made sense. Realising you were almost kneeling on the broken glass, you srcambled up abruptly, Steven backing away and startling Pearl momentarily. Your knees had some pieces of the vase remains stuck in them, but merely to the skin. Luckily, your legs didn't come into contact with the especially sharp fragments, but rather the flat-surfaced ones stuck to your knees from the pressure. It was uncomfortable so you brushed them off, watching them shine as they flew from you onto the carpet.
It was dead silent.
Everyone knew who they were. Maybe not personally, but at least knew their ranking. Their mission. Their entire purpose of existence. Pearl had explained before how gems are only made to do a job - to assist the divine. The very thought disgusted you.
Pearl also informed you about how Rose was completely against this and admired how humans were able to grow and develop and change - even from moment to moment. As her best friend, and potentially more, Pearl spoke highly of Rose but as the stories went on, the more suspicious Rose became.
A beautiful, powerful and understanding gem rebelled against the government to protect a puny planet placed in the middle of the universe with her newly-aquired team of gems. To you, Rose seemed almost fictional. She was just perfect. Too perfect.
You hadn't noticed the discussion currently taking place until Amethyst gasped dramatically. She held up the photo to the light, to be sure what she saw was correct.
Wow this is short sorry I don't actually have a storyline I'm just winging it oops
Hopefully I'll think of something during the next chapter uwu
