Pitter patter - Tommy x Reader
(Y/n) made her way down the surprisingly busy street; aware that the air of the capital was not the best for her, but London was far enough away from the family, so that her little appointment would hopefully not get back to Birmingham. Well......that was unless someone were to recognise her as Tommy Shelby's girl; but given the wig and glasses that she had donned, she doubted it. He heart beating quicker, as she came to a stop outside the shiny black door, that was embellished with a rather impressive brass knocker, street numbers, and door knob. (Y/n) taking a deep breath and straightening out her simple outfit, before stepping forward and knocking on the door. A small smile pulling at her lips, as a young woman, in a maid's uniform opened the ingress.
"Miss..........?"
"Good morning. I have an appointment with Doctor Fitzpatrick......" (Y/n) replied. The maid nodding and gesturing for her to enter the rather striking Victorian terrace house, as she opened the ingress, fully. (Y/n) doing her best to control her nerves, as the young maid, who already appeared to have been running around for hours, despite the time of day; showed her into a small waiting room. Another woman, this time in a nurse's uniform, making her way over to her.
"Good morning, again, Miss (Y/l/n)......."
"Good morning........"
"Please take a seat. The doctor is currently with another lady; but he shouldn't be too much longer. Just take a seat.........." The older nurse explained, gesturing over to the chairs in the room. (Y/n) nodding and moving to take a seat.
This wasn't the first time that she had journeyed all the way from Birmingham; yet she still felt as alone as she had done the first time. She would have much preferred it if Polly or Ada was with her, so that she felt as though she had some support; but if the tests came back as she thought they would, (Y/n) really wanted Tommy to be the first to know. And that was why she was in the capital in the first place. Sure, that if she had been seen by anyone going into any doctor in Small Heath, the whole town, never mind the family, would know about it. And before she could even say anything, she would have been sat down at the table, with all the Shelby's around her, wanting to know what was going on. (Y/n) knowing that when you get one Shelby, you got all of them; but still, a little privacy and no family interrogation, would be nice, once in a while.
"Miss (Y/l/n)........." (Y/n) looking up at the sound of her name. The nurse pointing to a door.
"The doctor will see you now........." The older woman continued. (Y/n) taking a deep breath, before getting to her feet and making her way to the door. Her hand hesitating for a moment, as her mind raced.
A part of her wanted the tests to be positive; but then another part, the part that was eating away at her gut, at that moment, was not sure how Tommy would take it. Not sure whether he would be happy with the news. Not sure whether he would accept it or want her gone. She knew that she was being stupid; she knew that Tommy loved her, he had told her on so many occasions, but still.......
"Come........." A voice called out. (Y/n) not having even realised that she had knocked on the door; but she had, and now she had to face it. The pale haired doctor smiling broadly at her, as she entered the room.
"Good morning, my dear. Please, take a seat.........."

"She's fine, Pol..........." Tommy insisted; doing his best to concentrate on the paperwork in front of him, despite the fact that his aunt was pacing back and forth in his office.
"She has just gone ta London ta meet up with an old friend and do some shopping.........." He insisted, even though he had to admit that (Y/n) had not been herself recently.
"Men don't see these things, Thomas. It takes a woman ta know; and I know there is something wrong with (Y/n). I know that she is unwell, even though she has been doing her best ta hide it. And it hasn't just been days, it's been weeks, and now she has gone to London, for tha second time, even though she always says that she doesn't really like the place." Polly explained, taking one last drag on her cigarette, before butting it out. Tommy relenting and sitting back in his chair; knowing that he wouldn't be getting anything done until this was settled. Especially given how close Polly and (Y/n) had become.
"So, what are ya saying, Pol............?"
"That I am worried, Tommy. That (Y/n) isn't telling us something............"
"Polly.........." A voice interjected. Polly and Tommy turning to look at the woman in the doorway.
"(Y/n), sweetheart.........." Polly said, rushing over to her, and pulling her into the office.
"What's wrong, I know there is something........."
"Polly, please..........I promise I will explain everything in a minute; but I have to speak to Tommy first.........." (Y/n) countered, taking the older woman's hands in hers, and offering Polly a smile. Polly reluctantly nodding; giving (Y/n) a look that told her 'you better', before leaving the room.
"(Y/n).............?"
"Please Tommy. I need to say something, and I know that it is silly; but I have to get it out, before I lose my nerve and start crying........."
"(Y/n), what..........?" Tommy now feeling concerned. Getting to his feet and coming around to her.
"I'm pregnant.........." She blurted out, not able to keep it in any longer; the long journey back from the capital giving her time to think. To realise how happy she was to know that there was a child growing inside her, and that it was Tommy's. That whether he was happy about it or not, she was going to keep the child and love it enough for two parents. A tear coming to her eyes, as Tommy dropped to sit on the side of his desk; his eyes focused on.........nothing.
"I know I should have said something; but I wanted to make sure before I told you. I went to London to see a doctor, because I didn't want rumours getting around town. So that Polly didn't interrogate me. I wanted you to be the first to know.........."
"Ya pregnant..........?"
"Yes, the doctor confirmed it this morning.........." (Y/n) replied. Sure, that she was going to be sick, as Tommy just continued to stare off into the distance. Just waiting for him to tell her that she had to go, that she had to get out.
"Ya pregnant.........I.....I'm gonna be a father........." A smile making its way onto his lips, (Y/n)'s eyes widening for a moment, as he pulled her to her feet and took her into his arms.
"Ya pregnant.......I'm gonna be a father......?" (Y/n) nodding. Tommy kissing her, before dropping to his knees and looking at her stomach.
"Hello........I.......I'm ya dad........" Tommy said. A tear coming to (Y/n)'s eye as Tommy carefully placed his hand over her belly.
"I'm gonna look after ya; you and ya mum. No one, and nothin, is ever gonna hurt ya, I swear. I'm gonna love ya both fa tha rest of my life, and when ya join us, I am gonna show ya off ta tha whole of Birmingham. But before ya do, I better make an honest woman of ya mother. So, give me a chance ta marry her, before ya make an appearance, yeah.........?" Tommy continued, before looking up.
"I should have asked ya a long time ago, (Y/n)........" The tears now quickly making their way down her cheeks.
"I love you. I want ya ta marry me. So........." He continued, as he took her hand.
"Will you............?"
"Tommy, I don't want anyone but you. I want us to be a family. You, me and the baby. So, yes, yes, I will marry you..........." (Y/n) replied, Tommy getting to his feet and pulling her back into his arms. The pair kissing, before he reluctantly pulled away, giving her another smile then leaving her and making his way out into the betting shop. Loud shouts and calls of congratulations, being heard as Tommy announced that not only was there going to be a wedding, but a baby too. (Y/n) aware that she still had a lot of explaining to do to the rest of the family, especially Polly; but as Tommy came back into the office and told her that he was going to get everyone, and they were all going to celebrate, she knew that she couldn't wait for the sound for the pitter patter of little footsteps, to come into their lives; and nor could Tommy.
