Chapter Four
"I'll throw away my faith babe, just to keep you safe," Angel With A Shotgun ~ The Cab
Helpful hint; push through, no matter what!
The skin crawling sound of gears shifting interrupted Chat from continuing his sentence. High pitched squeaks from the metal rubbing and scratching together filled the air, putting Chat on edge as he felt his eardrums ring from all the noise his heightened hearing picked up on. Adrien instinctively wrapped his arm around Marinette's waist and pulled her flush against his side as he held her tightly, which she allowed for the moment.
"Uh, is it just me, or does this room look smaller?" Chat asked. He held his left hand up, his wrist loose his hand hung forward, his opposite holding his elbow in an almost sassy-like position. Marinette rolled her eyes jokingly as she answered his rhetorical question.
"It's not just you, kitty." Chat Noir grinned at the cute pet name he was dubbed years ago before he turned his attention back to the situation at hand. The two teens looked at their surroundings, trying to discover an escape route.
"Well, this is a small issue."
"That was a really bad pun Chat."
"Ah, but you did know it was a pun," He waggled his brows beneath his mask, which Marinette could clearly tell. She rolled her eyes in a playful annoyance as Chat spoke upon a more. "It's hard, after all, to think of purrfect puns when you're here. I'm always astounded by your beauty, my princess. It renders me speechless."
"Yeah, maybe we should keep it that way." Marinette snipped snarkily, earning herself an overdramatic gasp from her partner just as she noticed something out of the corner of her eye. "Chat look!" She interrupted his speech on how he was wounded by her comment as she ecstatically pointed at the area she was looking at. His gaze followed her finger to the long space for their escape. "There's a space big enough for us to crawl in between the ceiling and the wall!"
"Oh, this is easy. Might be a tight fit though."
"Chat-" He grabbed her waist, forcing her to wrap her arms around his neck as he got a running start towards the wall. He ran as fast as he could before firmly planting his feet on the tiled floor and pushed himself and Marinette up with an incredible force, thanks to his suit.
He turned just in time for them to roll in between, their bodies colliding with the iron wall inside of the small room they had just entered. The floor they were laying on slanted slightly, causing the two to tumble for a few feet before coming to a stop.
Marinette did her best to untangle herself from Chat's limbs before sliding away from him, lying flat on her stomach, the metal roof above her slightly brushing against her head.
"That was too easy... I can't tell if he's doubting my skills, or if this is just a trap." Chat said cautiously, glancing around for any signs of danger.
"Tell me about it. And what is up with this guy and making us climb walls and crawl?!" Marinette yelled in exasperation before an uneasy feeling settled over her stomach. It twisted and churned in pain, a feeling she only gets before something really bad happens.
Teehee, my Ladybug senses are tingling. Her stomach twisted once more, sobering her up. Right, not the time to think about me being a Spider-Man wannabe.
"This doesn't feel right..." As soon as the words left her mouth, the area around Marinette suddenly took a drastic tilt, making her slide down. "Chat!"
"Marinette!" He reached for her outstretched hand, desperately spreading his fingers as far as he could in a futile attempt to grab her. He slid down after her, trying to snatch her hand into his and keep her from falling into the pitch black pit below them but he was too late. Just as their fingers touched, the darkness swallowed her up and a sudden gust of wind blew him back into the angled wall. It was as if the hole were a monster and had just burped after it had eaten Marinette. The floor closed with more iron just before Chat could go through after her.
"Marinette! Marinette!" He slammed his fists against the floor trying to pry the door open with his fingers. "I'm coming Marinette! I promise! I will save you!"
He yelled out a furious "Cataclysm"; the black magic surrounding his tightly closed fist, swirling in an almost agitated manner, almost like it was trying to replicate their wielder's feelings as it bubbled around his fingers. He punched the iron floor with a powerful blow, hard enough to leave his hand aching for several minutes. The instant his knuckles had came in contact with the cold metal, dark orange rust began to flood the entire floor, black following slowly behind.
He acted quickly, jumping on the center of the rusted iron. When his boots connected, the iron gave way and let him fall into the black pit Marinette had previously been dropped into. With a loud thud, he landed on the ground. Pain had laced its way from his heel and up his knee, almost threatening to make him wobble and become bow legged as he forgot to roll before standing. He ignored the throbbing as he looked around in the pitch black room.
"Marinette? Princess!" Chat called into the empty and dark corridor.
"That's not far. You cheated!" Puzzlemaker's voice bounced off the unseen walls, echoing in loud decibels. He sighed in annoyance before telling Chat what was going to happen.
"That means it's punishment time! And punishment time is always fun! For me at least." Purple eyes flashed in the darkness, looking at Chat almost like a demon in a horror movie.
It feels like a horror movie, losing Marinette that is. And this whole damn scheme.
"Sleep, Chat Noir." The hauntingly familiar glowing blue swirls surround the cat themed hero before he fell unconcious, his body falling limp and landing on the hard floor like a cold corpse.
Oh no! Marinette and Chat are both taken AGAIN. What's gonna happen next?
