(S1-C4) A New Beginning

This was it. No going back now. Well, of course, that's not entirely true. Marshall could always just not show up. However, if he ever wanted Everest to even look at him for the rest of his lifetime, that would not be a good idea. Besides, he would never do something like that. Not to someone who meant as much to him as she did.

By now, it was six. Only thirty minutes left until their date. Both Chase and Ryder had helped him get ready, both physically and mentally. Thanks to those two, along with some help from the other guys, Marshall felt determined. By all means, he was beyond nervous, but nonetheless, he was determined.

"Well bud, you should probably get going now. Definitely don't wanna be late." Chase told him, but not before giving him a brotherly hug for good luck, which the dally returned. "Don't be too nervous, everything will work out fine, I promise." He added in reassurance.

"Yeah you're right, wish me luck guys!" He called out as he turned to walk out of the lookout. Everyone wished him luck one last time. Taking a deep breath, he jumped into his fire truck and spend off into town.

Although he was a few minutes early, he spotted Everest's snowcat pulling into the restaurant parking lot. Very convieniet timing, having to wait is never fun. Plus, the more he waited, the more stressed out he'd end up getting himself.

Once he pulled up, the two both got out of their respective vehicles and  walked up to each other. "Hey Everest, you read- oh wow, y-you look amazing!" He praised once seeing her. He wasn't just trying to sound nice either, she really did good. Then again, he always thought she looked good.

Everest giggled at his reaction to her. "Thanks Marshall, you look good yourself." She told the blushing the Marshall, but she was almost positive she was blushing just as much. She just hoped that this date would go as well as she hoped it would.

Ever since she laid eyes on the dally, she had dreamed that this day would come, especially since she knew he returned her feelings since he wasn't very good at hiding them. Everest prayed that Marshall would finally confess and ask to become mates with her, but then again she knew how shy he was. In the end, only time could tell.

They walked into the restaurant, only to be greeted by Mr. Porter. "Well hello you two, here for that date Ryder called me about I assume?" He asked. Although a bit embarrassed that he knew why they were there, they both nodded.

Mr. Porter smiled at the two as he brought the two over to a table, without many people nearby. Once he got them there, he also grabbed two menus. "Order whatever you like, it's on the house." He informed, much to the pup's surprise.

"Wait really?" They both questioned in sync, a bit caught off guar by the sudden offer.

"Of course, it's the least I can do for you guys do for this town." He replied as the two thanked him for his generosity.

The two ordered their food, Marshall getting a steak and Everest getting some liver, which he didn't even know was an option, but was happy for her sake that it was. While they waited for their food, they simply enjoyed each other's company and talked. Eventually, their conversations lead to Marshall telling her about his life before joining the Paw Patrol.

"Me and Chase's parents were very close to each other, which is why me and him are as close as we are." He told her, thinking about the time they used to spend together before they met Ryder.

"Aw that's cute, where are they now?" Everest asked curiously. The second she said that she noticed an upset expression appear on his face. "Oh no, I'm sorry, you don't have to tell me if you don't want to." She said, worried that she had hit a soft spot for him.

"No, it's fine. I trust you. Well, they......they were killed." He explained to her sadly. "Both of them. Me and Chase's owners were neighbors, and some idiotic dog lit our houses on fire. Me and Chase were only small pups at the time, so we had no idea what was happening. Eventually, we were both brought to the pound, and that's when we ended up meeting Ryder. That's why we both picked the jobs we did, Chase to stop the criminals, and me to stop the fires." He added.

Everest got up and gave him a quick hug, seeing that he probably needed it. She hadn't necessarily had her parents die, but she knew it must've hurt."I'm so sorry Marshall. I'm sure that must've hurt."She told him sympathetically.

"It's ok, we've both gotten over it. It hurt Chase more than it did me. I think I was too young to really grasp the concept of losing someone." He replied, knowing how upset the shepherd was when it happened.

"Well, don't worry. You'll never have to lose anyone again." Everest cooed. The dally smiled and nodded, knowing she would probably be right. Death was something he never wanted to see again.

Seeing that he was fine now, Everest jumped up back into her chair. "If you don't mind me asking, what was your life like before joining?" Marshall asked. The husky froze when he said that. She remembered all that she had been through all those years ago.

"Um, I really don't remember much. I just lived in the South pole for as long as I can remember." She answered. She felt awful lying to Marshall, especially after he had shared his past. However, she thought it would be best to not say anything. Not right now at least. Luckily, the dally didn't press any further.

Soon after their little talk, they both got their food and got to eating. Once they were done, they thanked Mr. Porter again and walked outside.

"Hey, I think the sun is about to set. There's an amazing view by a tree back at the lookout, would you wanna watch it with me?" Marshall offered. It was a spot he had liked to visit often, and it would be even better with Everest with him.

"Of course I would, let's go, we don't wanna miss it." The husky replied as they both got into their vehicles and drove off. As they drove, Marshall only had one thought in his mind. And that was to tell her once they got there.

Once they got there, they jumped out and walked over to the spot. Marshall wasn't kidding about the spot either, it really looked beautiful. A nice tree to sit under next to a cliff overlooking the bay, it truly was something else. Definitely one of, if not the best, views Everest had seen in a long while.

Seeing as the mood was right, Everest leaned onto Marshall, causing them both to blush a bit. For a while, they just enjoyed the view. No words were spoken, but anyone with a brain could tell that love was still in the air.

"Thank you Marshall, this was one of the best nights of my life." Everest told him truthfully, especially considering she never really had the chance to do anything like this. Marshall looked at her and smiled.

"Same here, I'm glad you enjoyed it." He replied. After a few seconds of silence, he mentally prepared himself for whatever was about to happen. Whether it lead to love or rejection, he couldn't hide his feelings forever. He knew if he was gonna do this, now was the time. Hoping he wouldn't mess it up, he turned his attention back to the husky.

"Um, Everest? Can I tell you something?" He asked her nervously. Immediately, her mind began racing with thoughts. Could this be it? Would he finally confess? "Yeah sure, go ahead." She replied, trying her best not to freak out.

"Uh, w-well, the truth is, um, I-I." The dally paused for a moment and took a deep breath before continuing. He didn't want to come off as all jittery and nervous, this was a once in a lifetime oppritunity.

"T-the truth is Everest, is that I love you. Ever since I met you, I just felt this spark. You're the nicest, cutest, funniest, bravest, and just amazing pup I've ever met. I've really wanted to ask you this for a long time, so, um, would you wanna be mates with me?" He confessed.

Everest was awe-struck. She had waited for this day for long as should remember. Although she had dreamt of this moment so many times, and she knew Marshall loved her, it was truly nothing compared to hearing him say it out loud. She wouldn't even have been able to describe how she felt, as this would be probably the happiest moment of her entire life.

She was about to open her mouth to respond but was cut off by Marshall. "And, I understand if you don't feel the same way. Really, I won't be mad. I don't know why anyone would wanna be mates with a pathetic klutz like me. If that's the case then please, can we please at least stay friends?" He added.

Everest was a bit surprised by this. Did he really feel this way about himself? Was he really this unconfident? Well, lucky for him, things were about to work out."Oh Marshall, why would I want to stay friends with you."

Marshall felt his heart shatter as he looked down in disappointment and shame. He thought he had failed, but to his surprise, Everest picked his head back up so he was making direct eye contact with the smiling husky. "Why would I want to stay friends with you, when the pup of my dreams finally asked me to become mates."

"W-what? A-are you, are you saying tha-". He didn't get the finish his sentence has Everest cut him off. However, it wasn't the type of interuption he would've expected, even if he could've seen it coming

"Oh come here you." She demanded happily as she grabbed his collar and pulled the dally into a deep, passionate kiss, to which he couldn't have been any happier to return. The two sank into it and let it happen, seeing as what they had always wanted was finally happening

After all this time, they had gotten their moment, and the two couldn't be happier. She was his, and he was hers. The second their lips met, they both silently made a promise to themselves. That no matter what, they would be there for each other. That they would always protect each other. That they would always make sure that the other felt the love they wanted them to until the day that they left this earth.

And that was a promise they would both keep.
