(S1-C3) The First Step

Unlike the other times Marshall thought he had finally built up enough courage to tell Everest, this time he was positive he would do it. However, he decided it would be best to talk to Chase beforehand. They were like brothers, the two trusted each other with their lives. That and the fact that the Shepherd was the only other member of the Paw Patrol who actually had a mate.

"Ok, so you're sure that this will work, right?" The Dalmatian questioned nervously. The last thing he would want to do is make himself look like an idiot in front of Everest and screw up his chance of getting with her.

"Yes, I'm sure Marshall. Like I told you, don't stress out. I promise you that she'll feel the same way, you got this." Chase reassured. Unfortunately, Marshall wasn't taking his advice too well as he was still getting himself worked up.

"Ugh, but what if she hates me afterward? I don't know if I can do this, this might not be a good idea." He nearly yelled out in frustration. Although he knew he had to tell her, and deep down he truly wanted to, there was always that one part of him that decided to disagree and tell him that all of this was a bad idea.

"Marshall, look at me." Chase ordered him, his eyes showing determination. Whether the dally liked it or not, he was not going to back out this time. Luckily, Marshall stopped stressing out enough to do as he asked and made eye contact.

"Listen to me, bro. You. Got. This. Do you remember how nervous I was planning on telling Skye?" Marshall nodded in response, knowing how terrified the shepherd was himself. "Right, and I asked her, and it was probably the greatest decision I've ever made. You'll never truly know if you don't try. We believe in you, all of us do. You've got nothing to worry about." Chase stated, finishing his little pep talk.

Before Marshall had the chance to respond, he was cut off by their leader, who had just walked back inside the tower, thankfully alone. "He's right Marshall, we all believe in you, you've got to tell her pup. I've seen you two together, you're practically made for each other." Ryder added.

Marshall smirked at him. "You're one to talk, you still haven't asked out Katie yet." Ryder blushed while Chase tried very hard to hide his laughter, and thankfully, he managed to hold it in.

"W-well, t-that's different." Ryder stammered out, playfully glaring at the two. Although he couldn't help chuckle a little bit from his pup's witty comeback.

"No no, your right, that's different." Marshall replied. The boy let out a small sigh of relief, thankful that he wasn't going to be teased anymore. Unfortunately, he had made the mistake of letting his guard down.

"It really should be easier for you. You're a human, I'm a dog. You only have to ask her to be your girlfriend, not your freaking mate." The dally added, which made the three laugh more.

"With all due respect Ryder sir, he has a point. Our relationships don't work the same way as yours do."Chase added, still laughing himself at the situation.

Once they all stopped laughing and calmed down, Marshall was the first to speak up. "All jokes aside, you guys are right. I'll never know if I don't try. I have to tell her, and I will. Tonight I'll ask her out to dinner, then I'll do it." He vowed to himself out loud.

Ryder bent down and gave him a scratch on the ear. "That's the spirit pup, good luck." He said to him. The dally smiled at his owner's reassurance, as right now, it was something he really needed if he wanted the courage to finally make a move on the husky.

"Agreed, you got this bro." Chase added as the two walked away leaving Marshall alone with his thoughts. He stayed there in silence for a few moments before giving in and mentally preparing himself to go ask Everest out to dinner.

After getting himself as ready as he could, he walked outside and almost immediately he spotted Everest and Skye talking outside. Marshall took a deep breath and walked up to them. "H-hey girls." He said causing them both to turn around.

"Oh hey, what's up?" Skye questioned. She could easily see how nervous he was, so it didn't take her long to put the pieces together. Although she was beyond excited for her best friend, she stayed quiet as to not ruin the moment or Marshall's confidence.

"W-well, can I talk to Everest for a sec? Alone?" He asked. Skye shot a quick wink at the husky, who was trying her best to not get her hopes up for anything. After all, maybe he just wanted to talk to her as a friend.

"Yeah, knock yourself out." The cockapoo replied as she got up and walked away. As she passed the dally, she leaned over and whispered some encouragement in his ear, making sure Everest didn't hear her. "She's all yours, go get her."

Marshall looked back, a bit surprised at how Skye seemed to know exactly what he was trying to do. But by now, she was already gone, leaving both pups alone with only each other for company now.

"So, what did you need to talk about?" Everest asked, deciding to cut straight to the chase. Even though she made herself look calm on the outside, on the inside, she bursting with excitement at the thought of what might happen.

"Umm, well, w-would you wanna go get dinner with me tonight? He responded nervously. He looked up at the husky, who immediately smiled at his question. It was a good sign, but he still felt worried about it what her final answer would be.

"Is this a date?" She question, which made Marshall blush even more than he was already. This either meant she was wanting to go on a date, or she would think he was an idiot for ever trying to do this. Fearing the second option, he still made himself force out the words.

"W-well, I-I mean, do you want it to be?" He asked, already prepared for her to upset with him. To his delight, the husky laughed, which could only mean she wasn't angry.

"Of course silly! What time?" She questioned. The dally immediately regained some of his confidence, not to mention the obvious happiness he was feeling. The love of his life has just agreed to go out with him on a date, who wouldn't be excited about that?

"Uhh, how about Mr. Porters, at 6:30?" Marshall barely managed to get out. Everest thought for a second about the time. It would give her a couple of hours to get ready, which should be more than enough. So, she smiled and faced the blushing Dalmatian.

"Alright then, it's a date. I'll go get ready." She said as she ran away, leaving a very nervous and very excited Dalmatian alone.

Everest ran as fast as she could over to the cockapoo, her tail walking a million miles an hour. Skye, seeing the excitement in her friend's eyes jumped up and ran over to her.it wasn't hard to tell what had happened. "SKYE WE'RE GOING ON A DATE TONIGHT!" The husky practically screamed, which made Skye giggle a bit.

"That's amazing Everest! When is it?" She asked, knowing she'd have to get herself ready soon as it was already getting close to the evening, and chances are Marshall didn't ask her on a date for tomorrow.

"He said 6:30 at Mr. Porters. I need to get ready." Everest replied, almost talking to fast for the cockapoo to fully understand.

"Alright then, let's go to Katie's, I'm sure she can help you out." Skye said. The husky nodded in agreement, and the two jumped into their vehicle, then drove off to go get her ready for her big night.

Once they got there, they both went inside and were relieved to see that no other customers were there. "Oh hey girls, what's up?" Katie asked as she walked into the lobby.

"Well, Marshall just asked me on a date for later tonight, so I need to get ready. I want to look my best so I can impress him because hopefully, he'll end up confessing." Everest explained, having to slow herself so she could talk straight.

"Oh really? That's great! I can get you ready in no time. Oh and Skye, how did that date with Chase turn out?" Katie questioned, remembering that the two had come to her just the other day for that occasion.

"It was better than I would've ever expected. We're finally together now!" She replied. The girl smiled and gave both pups pats on the head, happy with how well their love life seemed to be going recently.

"Wow that's awesome, things really seem to going well for you two huh?" Katie said as the pups giggled a bit and nodded in agreement. "Well, enough talk, Let's get you ready Everest."

Back at the lookout, Marshall finally snapped himself out of his daze and he ran straight back into the lookout, where Ryder and the rest of the pups were watching TV. Whatever they were watching was quickly interrupted by Marshall barreling in and tripping on a toy, which surprised none of them.

"Sooooo?" Asked Chase, intrigued to see how his conversation went, even though he knew no one else besides Ryder would get what he was talking about. That being said, he could see obvious happiness radiating from the dally, so that was already a good sign.

"SHE SAID YES!" Marshall replied with excitement, and of course, the two who were aware of the situation congratulated him, glad to see his little burst of confidence had paid off. If it hadn't, it probably wouldn't have been great for his self-esteem.

"Uh, dudes? I think I speak fow all of us when I say this, but what exactly did Mawshall do?" Zuma asked, having no clue what was happening, just like the others.

"I asked Everest for a date for later tonight, and she actually said yes!" He responded, in which the rest of the pups also congratulated him on finally asking her out since even though it was just recently confirmed, they all knew he had liked her since he set eyes on her.

"Ryder, can you help me get ready? It's in a couple of hours." Marshall asked, wanting to look good. This would be his first-ever date with her, and he didn't want it to be his last either.

"Yeah sure, let's do this!" Ryder answered. The boy felt happy for his pup, even if it was just the beginning of the process of the two getting together. He knew that for Marshall, being as shy as he is, just getting a date with Everest was a huge accomplishment.

As long as he held on to the confidence he seemed to finally have, it would be smooth sailing from there.
