A Heart of Gold

Location: Ecruteak City

I hopped off of Tropius, and then returned him into his Poke Ball. I looked up. Welp, here I am.

The Bell Tower.

I took a deep breath, and went inside. It's now or never.

The Bell Tower looked exactly like it was in my dreams. The floor was wooden like the walls, and there were ladders everywhere. The lanterns glowed with a dim light. I took a deep breath, and started my way to the top.

When I reached the second floor, I found a false bottom on the floor. There was a small cupboard containing a brown leather journal bound shut with string, and did you know what was also bound with the journal?

A feather striped red, white, and green, but it shined like a rainbow when it hit the light. I put the feather in my bag and then looked at the writing on the front of the journal: Property of Leo Kai and his descendants.

Leo Kai...That's Dad! My eyes widened at the journal. This isn't any journal. It's Dad's! But why would Dad keep a hidden journal in the Bell Tower? I eagerly looked at the journal. Should I? I shook my head. Nah, I can look at it later. I stuffed the journal in my bag and continued my journey to the top.

-X-

After climbing the ten floors, I found myself on the roof. In front of me were five Kimono Girls, looking at me. We stared at each other in silence. Then, the middle one started to speak.

"You must be the boy Ho-oh chose. This is where we welcome the Rainbow Pokemon herself. When the dance we practiced for days becomes on with the Clear Bell we have, then Ho-oh shall come down from the great arch of the sky once again!"

The middle one gave me a silver bell and told me to ring it. I obeyed, as the Kimono Girls started to dance. Maple leaves started to fall down as the lanterns started to light up.

Just then, a blur of red, green, white, and gold appeared in the sky, flying towards the tower. Ho-oh. She soared over the tower before landing in front of me. She let out a shrill cry.

My eyes widened. "Is that-" The Kimono Girl nodded. That is indeed Ho-oh. The guardian of the sky around here from ancient times..." She looked at the Rainbow Pokemon. "So many have tried and tried, only to fail..." She turned to me. "Your heart and the Clear Bell in harmony have finally made her appear...don't you see, boy? Ho-Oh must have been waiting for someone like you all this time. Wouldn't you agree?"

I slowly walked up to Ho-Oh and looked her in the eye. Now, I knew what Ho-Oh wanted with me. I released all eight of my Pokemon. Ho-Oh must've knew that I understood, because she sent a blazing fireball straight at me and my Pokemon.

I didn't hesitate to give out an order. "Blaziken, Sky Uppercut! Vaporeon, use Iron Tail on that fireball!" My Vaporeon's tail turned silver as he hit the fireball away, while Blaziken jumped the hook Ho-Oh in the chin, but the Rainbow Pokemon swiftly dodged, sending a fireball at Aggron, about to send him flying until Pangoro caught him and sent a Shadow Ball as Arcanine jumped up, using Extreme Speed, hitting Ho-Oh in the stomach, causing the Rainbow Pokemon to send a blast of fire at us, scorching most of my team.

"Are you okay?!" I yelled. My Pokemon struggled to get up as a blur of yellow and blue raced on Donphan and jumped onto Aggron. Minun. Minun jumped off of Aggron and sent a Thunderbolt at Ho-Oh before using Double Team and then unleashing different attacks on Ho-Oh.

I stood there, amazed. Out of all of my Pokemon, I didn't know that Minun had this much power. But I did know that I have to help my Pokemon. I knew that Minun was only distracting Ho-Oh, so I got Vaporeon out. "This is my only chance," I muttered. "Vaporeon, Aurora Beam!" The Bubble Jet Pokemon shot an indigo beam right at Ho-Oh's weak spot, causing Ho-Oh to lose balance and land in front of me. Minun jumped onto my shoulder as Ho-Oh got up and looked at me in the eye and then cawed softly.

Suddenly, a flash of rainbow light came between Ho-Oh and I. When the light faded, there was a sapphire-colored prism in the shape of a feather on a black cord. When the light of the sunset hit the feather, the prism shone just like a rainbow. Ho-Oh looked at me, then the amulet, and then back to me.

"You want me to have this?" I asked. The Legendary Rainbow Pokemon smiled, nodding. I put the amulet around my neck before putting it underneath my shirt, feeling the cold sapphire on my bare chest. Ho-Oh then raised her wings and took off, flying away.

"I'm impressed." I turned to see the Kimono Sisters. The middle on spoke as always. "Not only did you make Ho-Oh appear, you became her Patron as well." "Ho-Oh's Patron?" I asked.

"You defeated Ho-Oh in battle. In return, Ho-Oh gave you her power of fire by giving you that amulet, her Item of Power. Legendary Pokemon have Patrons to avoid being caught. All you have to do is defeat the Legendary Pokemon and hope it doesn't have a Patron yet to become one." She explained. I looked at my amulet. "So, I can manipulate fire?" The Kimono Girl nodded. "Only a little bit. You can only use Ember now. If you train harder, you can become stronger. Just don't surpass your limit. You can sense other Patrons as well. Your father's journal will help you."

I nodded, getting on my Tropius. "Alright. Thank you." I smiled as Tropius flew. I hope I can get stronger, Ho-Oh. I heard a voice in my head. Don't make me regret my choice, boy. I grinned. Oh, I won't.
