Chapter 1: Expelled

Skye's POV

It's time to face hell.

School.

I hurried and changed to my uniform. It was a school dress with a violet skirt, a white top and leather black shoes, a beautiful combination of colours but the uniform carried a gloomy and miserable feeling to it, which made me shiver in discomfort.

I gazed upon at the time on my jet black watch that was wrapped around my wrist.

''Shoot, I'm late!'' I panicked, I ran to the kitchen to quickly make my breakfast.

My stomach churned in starvation. I was craving a cereal, perhaps that was due to cereal merely being one of the only breakfast foods present in this empty house.

The fridge opened and I rummaged through the stocked shelves. ''Where's the milk?!'' I checked the fridge again but still couldn't find it.

I definitely needed to stock up, after I find spare cash hidden across the dust piles and crooks of this place.

Now there is no time! I checked my watch, it was 8:23 AM, only 7 more minutes left until I'm late.

Why are my time management skills so horrid?

I went through the cabinits and grabbed a half eaten granola bar, ''I guess this will have to do,''

My feet rushed to the door. I got my pink, slightly ripped coat and zipped it. My purple bag was laying on the floor, I picked it up and opened the front door, the cold air rushing past my face and blowing my hair.

''Bye mum!'' I shouted in a hurry.

My mum doesn't really reply most of the time as she's always fast asleep in bed after a long day's work at the hospital, but the amount of time she sleeps and works worried me and left me suspicious.

I left the house, my eyes darting to the sky. Storm clouds... ''Not again!'' I groaned.

After screaming at the weather, I rushed to school. It takes me 6 minutes to get there and school starts in 5 minutes.

Better hurry, Skye.

A purple banner caught my attention It said, 'Welcome To Humdinger Academy!'

Yet the school didn't seem quite welcoming.

It looked like an abandoned building on steroids.

I took my glaze off the banner and looked at my watch, ''NO! I'm late!'' I groaned.

Why am I the queen of getting distracted almost every time?

I went inside and walked down the hall. Man, I was gonna get in so much trouble. I tried not to think about it and stopped at my first class 'Maths'.

Such a pleasant subject.

I quietly walked inside and avoided eye contact.

Don't look at me, don't look at me.

''SKYE QUILL!'' A annoying voice shot at me.

''I- I'm so sorry, I overslept,'' I apologised and looked at the ground in embarrassment.

The teacher sighed, ''Just shut up and sit down,''

The audacity-

''Oh okay,'' I said awkwardly, rushing towards my dreaded seat.

I felt heads looking at me, mocking my very existence. I could feel their unwanted breath at the back of my neck, whispers sounding deafening in my poor ears, eyes creepily surveying my being.

Laughs and gossips filled the room.

Typical for me.

''SHUT UP!'' The teacher screamed, ''Carry on with your assignment.''

I pressed on my ear from my teacher's constant screaming before sitting down and grabbing paper sitting on my desk, judging with its unanswered questions.

Come on, Skye. Keep up this good girl exterior for just another day. Show them how they shouldn't laugh at you, show them you don't care about their opinions. Remember, just continue having good grades so I can get a job and finally have the money to buy a real breakfast.

I held a pen immediately and started writing.

''Psstt! Skye!'' A girl said next to me.

I flinched, already knowing what her question will be, ''What?'' I asked, annoyance beneath my calm facade.

''I need help,''

I lowered my head back to my sheet in indifference,  ''Alright, so?''

She pursed her lips, irritation clear in her eyes, ''Sooo, can you tell me the answer for question 16?''

''This is independent work, Yelena, not pair work,'' I held my ignorance and continued to write on my paper.

Yelena groaned and carried on.

''Excuse me?'' A scruffy voice said across the dim room. His voice radiating a elephant who's also an addict.

''Oh hello, Humdinger,'' There was a transition in my teacher's usually cold voice. Once bitter, now as sweet as honey.

''I have an announcement to make,'' That carried all the students attention.

''Someone has graffitied In the girls' toilet,'' Humdinger's voice became stern.

''If you know anything about it or you have done it, please report to my office. If you are the person who did it, tell me immediately, I will just give them a simple detention but... If you do not report it, we will find out! and will expel you!''

Everyone looked at each other in fear.

''That's all,'' And Humdinger walked off.

Everyone got back to their papers, whispering about who the culprit might be.

I'm glad I'm not stupid enough to do something like graffiting at school.

It was finally time for break, I walked to the door but was stopped by...

''Sweetie...'' I faked a happy voice

''Ugh, It's so ugly when you say it,'' Sweetie said, She was not wearing the obligated uniform, but was wearing a blinding glimmering pink dress and little pathetic bows stuck to her wavy hair.

Quite a spectacular. Well to anyone except me.

''What is it this time Sweetie?''

''I know you did it!'' She spat.

''Did what?'' I asked in utter confusion, wondering if she hit her head which wouldn't be surprising at all.

''I know you were the one who graffitied in the girls' toilet,'' She said in such confidence, contempt drawling out her mouth as if I was a mere peasant compared to her.

She wasn't wrong unfortunately.

''Sweetie, I didn't even go to the girls' toilet!'' I reasoned with her.

''Lies!'' She screamed, quite dramatically and walked off with her robot minions.

''Oh, how much I hate her,'' My eyes were giving her a stern look.

 ---

Knock knock

''Come In!'' Humdinger's voice projecting.

The door creaked opened.

''I know who did it!'' Sweetie's annoying voice announced.

Humdinger raises his eyebrow, his fingers wrapped around his chin, ''Did what?'' He asked in irritation.

''I know who graffitied In the girls' toilet,''

  ---

It was after school and I was humming while washing the dishes.

I was elated as I passed my test In Math, yet again. I chuckled, ''I'm so good at math,'' Perhaps, I was a bit too smug about it. However, I was one small step closer to leaving this school and getting a job.

Ring ring, ring ring

I placed a washed place on the rack, wiping my soaked hands on my clothes, as I ran out of tissues, ''Huh?''

I spotted the telephone vibrating. I muttered under my breath, and picked it off the table, answering.

''Hello?'' I said dreamily in a sing song voice.

''I regret to inform you but...You have been EXPELLED  from the Humdinger Academy,'' The receptionist said a stern voice.

''Wait what?!'' I broke off, the euphoria in my voice retreating, ''Th- This must be a mistake!''

''This is no mistake Miss Quill,''

''Why?'' My voice cracked.

''Someone has reported to the Principal that you have graffitied In the girls' toilet,''

''I did no such thing!'' I protested

''Well a group of girls' said you did,'' The receptionist stubbornly objected. "They are heavily known for being the role models of the school, they have never lied before.

''What were their names?!'' I asked, suspicion hinted in my tone.

''Miss Baileys and a group of girls,'' The receptionist stated, fatigue fully presented in her voice.

''Sweetie and her group of minions...'' I muttered

''They lied! they hate me! Especially Sweetie. You must understand. I didn't do it,'' I spoke, hoping the person on the other end of the phone would understand.

''I cannot help you Miss Quill, I just do the calls,''

''Then tell Principal Humdinger!'' My voice became agitated.

''I'll make a call hold on,''

''Thank you,'' I smiled, a beaken of hope bestowing upon me.

A few minutes later the receptionist came back to the line.

''I called him bu-'' Her voice was cut off

''So I can go back to school?'' I was grinning

''I called him but... he did not believe you,''

My smile turned cold, ''No. Please let me stay,'' I retreated to begging, even though I sounded inadequate.

''As I said I just do the calls, Miss Quill, nothing else,'' Annoyance clear in her voice.

''No, no please-''

''Goodnight Miss Quill,'' The receptionist hung up.

''Wait! No!'' I screamed in defeat.

I stomped to my room and shut the door behind me, tears threatening to break out of my eyes.

''Skye, are you alright?'' A sweet, comforting voice asked

It was my mum, the nicest person I've ever met, she's the only person who understands me. I could tell her anything and she wouldn't show any anger.

I opened the door to let her in, she always looked gloomy and heartbroken, but her kindness showed.

She resembled me, though her hair was more edging to brunette to blonde, her hair was extremely short and unkempt. Dark eyebags deep and eyes low and tentative. Scars painted around her underweight body though one of my arms was severely swelling and crimson. Nonetheless, she was still beautiful.

I usually felt there was something wrong with her but she always said 'it was nothing' but I knew it wasn't, I gave her a worried look and spoke:

''I- I've been expelled...'' I spat out

''It's alright,'' She gave me a smile

It seemed for the past year, she has been accepting, too accepting. I knew deep down, she felt heartbroken but was too afraid to show it.

I smiled back

''Why don't we search for a new school?'' She suggested

''Okay,'' I followed her downstairs to the living room, it wasn't much. Just worn out sofas with a ancient television sitting in front of them.

It looked incredibly sad.

I sat down and my mum handed me the laptop which seemed like it was hanging by the thread.

''Thanks,'' I opened the laptop and went on search I typed 'School's In my location'

There were tons! I scrolled down until one caught my eye

''Patrol High,''

''5 star reviews?'' My mum asked, surprised.

''Yeah, shockingly,'' Though there was suspicion in my tone.

I pressed on their website, and was immediately welcomed by it.

It looked beautiful and safe though that seemed like a lie.

''Mum?'' I asked.

''Yes?''

''May we please call this school?''

''You wanna attend?''

''Yes,''

''Of course!'' My mum grinned, hugging me tightly with all of her strength even when there wasn't much.

I hugged her back, not trying to hurt her in the process. I let go and nodded, dialing their number.

BEEP BEEP, BEEP BEEP

''Hello?'' A cheery woman said, a comforting aura radiating from her tone.

''Oh hi!'' I greeted, excitement making my heart pound.

''Hello, is there another complaint you wish to speak about?''

Complaint?

''No, I-,'' I got cut off.

''Ohh are you planning to join our school?'' She asked with genuine joy.

''Yes!'' I nodded even though she couldn't see me.

''Very well, let me introduce myself. My name is Principal Goodway. I'm the head teacher of this school,'' She introduced herself, with kindness that was never presented by Principal Humdinger.

''I'm Skye Quill,''

''Oh, what a nice name!'' She complimented.

''Thanks, my mother took pride in it.,'' My mum gave me a weak smile

''Okay, now we would like you to fill a form If you want to attend,''

''Oh alright,'' I nodded again.

''Ok great! I'll send it to you,'' She spoke with joy.

And she hung up.

I checked my phone and was recieved an email from Goodway, I pressed it and filled out the form with my mum.

''Done!'' I cheered

''Let's call your new principal!'' My mum said excitedly, the word ''Your Principal'' stood out to me.

I took the phone and called my 'Principal' again.

BUZZ

''Hello?''

''Who is this?'' The familiar voice questioned.

''Skye Quill,'' I replied

''Oh yes! Skye. I have seen your form and you may attend school next week,'' Her words filled me with joy, a new school!

''Wow! Thank you!''

I mentally screamed In joy.

''No problem. Well goodnight. See you next week,'' She hung up.

Oh my...this was going to be my new school, I bet I'll make a lot of friends! No more drama and bullies will get in my way.

Nothing can stand in my way in making my mother proud and give her the life she deserves.

The first chapter is done! Hope you enjoyed it even with the clear grammatical errors. Please leave a comment they fill me with joy when I read it. Anywho... bye:)
