A Brief History of Astrence

Astrence began as a simple pausing point for ships on their journeys. The nearby Astranza River provided easy access to fresh water and the forests that bristled thickly in those days provided wood and materials for repairing ships. The natural harbor created by the rock jetties of the coast was a safe place to shelter during storms.

Of course, anywhere ships stop, people tend to gather. The trees were felled, no longer just for masts and planks, but also for houses, and to make room for farms. Soon, the sailors could stock up on not just fresh water, but also fresh produce, if they stopped in the right season. Then came the tanners and smithies and weavers, the temples and guilds and taverns. As more people came, caravans began coming regularly, too, establishing the place as a stop along the trade routes.

The conversion of this loose, unruly mess of houses, shops, and caravan markets to an established town, and later a city, is credited to seven people: Madori Nanki, Khai Nahan, Jorn Jebsor, Im'mira l'Fleur, Pura Aleira, Galry Lorandt, and Vicktorn Nahlstrom.

Their descendants became the founding families of our fine city.
