Chapter 5

Patches ran and ran as fast as he could. If he was correct, he was a god! And considering things are different, then his time of repeating things must be up!

He tore through the forest as fast as he could, jumping over fallen logs and overgrown vines. Patches's heart raced, and he hoped that he was correct. Of course, it was a childish dream, but it lined up perfectly with what he remembered from history.

Once Patches saw the break in the trees that entered towards the field, he slowed down some for a break. Getting to the middle of the field was hard, yes, but he needed to at least slow down if he wanted to get there safely.

Winter's roots grew everywhere in the field, no matter how empty it seemed. One wrong move, and if Patches were to be running, he'd trip and fall, potentially spraining a paw. Or worse.

Patches took his time during his trip to the center, yes, however he was very impatient on his way there.

After a long walk, Patches saw Winter, and ran towards him. "Winter! Winter!" Patches called. Winter looked up and told Patches to keep silent with the flick of his tail. Patches nodded and got as close as possible without it bothering Winter.

The vines on Winter seemed to be finally lessening in grip too, which was nice. "Out of the three timelines, you're finally in the present one. Isn't that nice? You can stop repeating your life over and over." Winter mumbled to Patches.

Patches nodded. "Yeah, I have to tell you-" Patches was silenced once more by Winter, who was looking at what was going on in the present.

Patches did the same, and looked at what was going on.

Phoenix was happy being with Ghostly. It felt like it's been forever since the two hung out! Last time they did, it was a practice for flight!

She happily followed him around, asking questions about his time as a pirate, and just a few silly questions.

He answered them swiftly, which was entertaining, but it did surely bring up one big question. "Ghostly, do you miss your crew? Your family?" Phoenix asked. She was curious, after all. He's had so much time without them, but yet losing someone you care about is never easy, so it truly had Phoenix wondering.

"Sometimes. I miss some of my crew, like Winter and Patchy, but others like Fawnling and MottlePaw." Ghostly answered. "My mom and dad never were really there for me, so I don't have much to say about them." Ghostly added. Phoenix nodded, yet a few more questions arose.

"Who's Fawnling? They never were mentioned in any historical records as far as I could tell." Phoenix asked. Ghostly sighed and looked towards the cloudless blue sky. "Fawnling, Merekat, Gold, and Sunray were the cats I had in my crew during the raid of Spire. Gold never made it long due to an illness, but things like that happen," Ghostly started.

He seemed to be recounting his tales with them. "I met Sunray after my father died. Sunray joined my crew, and brought along a friend, Fawnling. Merekat joined us after a bit of sailing too, and he quite easily got along with everyone. Always brightened the mood." Ghostly smiled at the memory, and Phoenix couldn't help but smile too!

Despite Ghostly's face being half-skull, a smile meant everything to her. "But Fawnling was a troublemaker, and really, never did any damage." Ghostly continued. Phoenix was ready to listen, no matter where the story would go, however, a new scent entered their area. Not one that smelled like a rotting corpse, not one that smelled like a campfire, no, this one was new.
