Sage stared at herself in the mirror, processing herself slowly. Her blue dress was tight around the chest, a yellow beltt just under her chest, and another yellow stripe going from her hip to her thigh. The blue opened up about mid-thigh, showing a pale yellow fabric while the blue flowed out of the way.
Her hair was full of braids and twists that went back into a low hanging bun. Her own pair of red apple earrings dangled from her ears and a crown was rested upon her head.
Sage White looked like the royal princess she always was.
The said princess shifted, bringing her blue purse higher up on her shoulder. Yes, it was her best friends' coronation, but she got hungry!
That being said, Sage White and her dad were going to be up front with Mal. Best Friend perks.
Taking a deep breathe, Sage turned towards the door and made her way to the coronation.
Who knew what was going to happen next?
🍎
There was so many people parading the streets, throwing confetti into the air and cheering as Sage White rode by in her carriage. Her smile was bright as she waved at everyone.
Finally, the carriage stopped and she was helped off before walking up the stairs towards King Adam and Queen Belle.
"Why do you guys always feel the need to make me the center of attention, even for a moment. I thought Ben was bad!" Sage joked.
"You deserve so much more than what you receive, sweetie," Belle cooed, grabbing Sage's hands and looking at her outfit. "You look beautiful!"
"I still remember you running around the castle with Ben's old jersey, saying how you were going to be the next big tourney player," Adam laughed.
"Oh, god, please don't remind me!" Sage giggled, shaking her head at the memory. Glancing behind her and seeing Ben's carriage, she turned back towards the King and Queen and curtsied. "If I may,"
"Go right on ahead," Belle smiled, stepping aside and letting Sage pass. The said girl was lead around the building into the side doors and was quick to spot her father.
"Father," Sage greeted with an unsteady smile. Sage and her dad never had the tightest relationship, especially after it was announced that Sage would be married to Chad.
"Sage," Her father replied. King Florian glanced at his daughter, nodding his head. "You looking wonderful, darling."
"Thank you, father,"
And that was it. It was the extent of their conversations. Sage dug around in her bag before pulling out an apple, fiddling with it. They waited patiently for Ben, and only when Mal appeared next to her did Sage know it was time.
The choir was singing from up above - where there was more people standing, including the VK's - and the doors were opened by the butlers.
Ben glided his way down the carpeted path, royals on both sides of his bowing or curtsying in respect. When passing Sage, they made eye contact and she winked. The apple in her hand waved slightly and Ben cracked another big smile before ascending the steps to the Fairy Godmother.
King Adam and Queen Belle were on either side of the magical wand, only getting up when Ben was halfway down the isle and the Fairy Godmother stepped up. She hugged Belle, curtsy to Adam, and when Adam bowed, she took the golden crown from his head.
Ben was on his knees, looking up at the Fairy Godmother as she put the crown on his head. Somehow, it fitted perfectly and she smiled proudly down at Ben.
"Do you solemnly swear to govern the peoples of Auradon with justice and mercy as long as you shall reign?" Fairy Godmother asked, holding her wan delicately in her two hands.
"I do solemnly swear," Ben answered.
"Then it is my honor and my joy to bless our new kings," Fairy Godmother said, taking the wand and tapping Ben's shoulders. She raised the wand up, but it was ripped from her grasp.
Everyone gasped, including Sage as Jane held the wand tightly in her hands. The power was too much for the girl, as it spun her around and sent sparks out of the tip of the wand.
"Child, what are you doing?" Fairy Godmother demanded, stepping around Jane. Sage stumbled back as Jane staggered down the steps.
"If you won't make me beautiful, I'll do it myself!" Jane declared. "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo!"
Screams and gasps were heard as Jane spun around again, the sparks flying everywhere. Ben rushed down and stood in front of Mal protectively.
"Take cover!" Adam ordered, protecting Belle. Sage shrieked as a spark landed on her dress, but thankfully nothing happened. While still fighting for the power of the wand, Jane spun once more before Mal rushed forwards.
"Be careful, Mal!" Belle warned.
The two were in a grappling match before Mal ripped the wand out of Jane's hands. The crowd gasped as Mal held the wand higher. Sparks stopped flying from the wand and it seemed like Mal had complete control over the wand.
"Mal, give me the wand," Ben said softly, stepping in between his parents and Mal. Sage was quick to join his side, staring at Mal with a pleading look.
"Stand back," Mal threaten halfheartedly.
"Mal, come on," Sage whispered quietly. "Just-"
"Stand back!"
The doors behind Mal burst open and Carlos, Evie, and Jay came running next to Mal's side protectively.
"It's okay." Ben tried again.
"Ben, I said stand back!"
"I told you so!" Audrey snapped from the sidelines. Mal turned towards her and the crowd screamed.
"Audrey, for once in your life, shut up!" Sage snapped at the beauty, keeping her hands up in front of her. Might it also be pointed out, that Sage still had an apple in her grasp. Audrey swallowed her retort.
"Let's go!" Carlos exclaimed.
"Revenge time." Jay added.
"You really want to do this?" Ben asked.
"We have no choice, Ben!" Mal cried.
"You always have a choice, Mal," Sage argued, looking at each of the villain's children. "All of you do."
"Our parents--"
"Your parents made their choice," Ben interrupted. "Now you make yours."
Realization seem to strike Mal as she looked over at everyone, her hand slowly lowering the wand. Sage sent her a bright, comforting smile as they made eye contact.
"I'm with you guys, remember?" She said softly.
Mal hesitated before admitting, "I think I want to be good."
"You are good!" Ben declared.
"How do you know that?!" Mal demanded.
"Because. . ." Ben swallowed. "Because I'm listening to my heart."
"I want to listen to my heart, too," Mal whispered. Ben and her kept eye contact before Mal spoke louder. "And my heart is telling me that we are not our parents."
"Someone besides me finally said it," Sage muttered under her breathe, Ben giving her a sharp jab in the side, but a small smile crept on his face.
Mal faced her friends. "I mean, stealing things doesn't make you happy," She said to Jay. "Tourney and victory pizza with the team makes you happy."
"Yeah!" Someone cheered in the background. Sage snorted, covering it with a cough.
"And you!" Mal looked at Carlos. "Scratching Dude's belly makes you happy. Who would've thought?"
Her gaze landed on her best friend. "And Evie, you do not have to play dumb to get a guy. You have a girl pinning after you! You are so smart!"
Sage and Evie locked gazes, both of them smiling at each other.
"And I don't want to take over the world with evil. It doesn't make me happy. I want to go to school and be with Ben," Mal declared and turned towards Ben and showing him the beast ring. "Because Ben makes me really happy."
Sage grinned, linking her pinkie with Ben's and squeezing it tight.
"Us being friends makes me really happy," Mal said and turned back to her friends. "Not destroying things. I choose good, you guys."
With that, Mal put her hand in the middle of them, making a fist. Fairy Godmother gasped, and no one moved for a moment.
Before Jay put his fist in. "I choose good, too."
"I choose good," Evie sniffed, eyes still watering.
"So, just to be clear," Carlos started. "We don't have to be worried about how really mad our parents will be?" The group laughed. "Because thy're gonna be really, really mad."
"Your parents can't reach you here," Ben started.
"And even if they did find a way off that Isle - you're going to have an army of friends behind you." Sage finished.
"Okay, then," Carlos put his fist in. "Good."
Mal laughed and turned towards Ben, waving her head for him to join. "Come on."
Ben smiled, walking over and putting his fist in. Sag clapped, laughing happily before Carlos peaked his head over Ben's shoulder.
"Don't think we forgot about you, Sage! Get over here!"
"You heard the man!" Ben smiled, waving his best friend over. "Come on!"
Sage shook her head with a smile, placing herself next to Evie and Ben and putting her fist in. "You guys will be the death of me," She joked.
The group laughed, Mal resting her head on Ben's shoulder. Sage, seeing this, smile at her best friend before fingers hesitantly brushed over her knuckles. Looking over, Evie was already staring at Sage with a questioning look.
A loud swoosh interrupted the moment as a lime green cloud pushed its way into the giant building and landed right in between the villain's kids, Ben and Sage.
"I'm back!!" Maleficent sang joyously with her staff in hand. Sage backed up slowly, the grip on her apple tightening.
"It can't be," Mal murmured before speaking up, "Go away mother."
Maleficent laughed. "She's funny," The dark fairy snorted. "Oh, I'm so. . .You're very funny here." She stopped laughing. "Wand me. Chop-chop."
"No!" Ben shouted as Mal moved forward. Being quick, Mal tossed it to Fairy Godmother, who caught it and started to wave it around.
"Bibbidi-Bobbidi. . ."
"Boo." Maleficent finished, raising her specter up. Sage froze, arm covering her eyes and the last thing she saw was a lime green light flashing around her arm.
🍎
Sage blinked. That's all she did, was blink. While Ben rushed forwards with a beast-like roar, she blinked.
What just happened?
"Okay, okay!" Mal patted Ben's chest to calm him down. "We kind of got this all wrapped up here."
Sage shook her head, perked up, and smiled at the sight in front of her. Ben had picked Mal up and started to twirl her around, the two of them screaming and laughing.
"Next time I rescue you, okay?" Ben stated.
"Yeah. Let's not let there be a next time, okay?" Mal placed her hands on his shoulders.
"Please, I rather not," Sage inputted, stepping closer to the group.
"I double that," Evie laughed, stepping closer to Sage. The latter fumbled with her apple a bit, grinning at Evie.
"I will be right back," Mal excused herself, walking over to where Fairy Godmother and Jane were. Sage's eyes wondered before making eye contact with her father, who didn't look too happy.
"Yeah, I'll be a minute, too," She said slowly. Ben followed her gaze to her dad and grimaced.
"Sleepover tonight?"
"Most likely." Sage huffed, turning towards Evie with a hopeful smile. "Can we talk after?"
"Yeah! I-I mean, of course," Evie coughed, trying not to sound too excited. "I-I'll be waiting. Here."
"Good," Sage giggled, reaching up and giving Evie a peck on the cheek. "Don't get lost."
The youngest White slowly made her way closer to her dad, who had his arms crossed. She was barely in front of him when he started to talk.
"What are you thinking?" He asked harshly. "Falling for a girl? The Evil Queen's daughter, no less! I thought we raised you better than this!"
"No, dad," Sage shook her head, fingers drumming the apple in her grasp. "You didn't raise me. Mom raised me. If you bothered to ask about me every great now and again, you would have realized that I have been trying to come out to you guys for a while now!"
"Come out? Don't tell me your going through that gay phase!"
"It's not a phase!" Sage snapped. "I like girls, okay?! Not boys, girls! There isn't anything you can do about it! And I just so happened to really like Evie! So butt out!"
"Your mom and I will have a long talk," Sage's father started. "But I would end whatever you have between you and that carbon copy! You're bond to marry Chad Charming, whether you like to or not!"
"I don't want to, Dad!" Sage bursts. "I don't like boys, much less Chad Charming! Besides, no one does arranged marriages anymore! It's a new generation! Get with the times!"
"Don't you dare raise your voice at me," King Florian dropped his voice. "I am your father. You must do as I say! It's your duty!"
"Screw my duty," Sage hissed. "It's about time I stood up for myself. I'm not marrying Chad, I'm going to love the same sex as me if I want to, and you can't do anything about!"
"I won't accept this," He growled.
"You don't have too, you just have to stand aside," Sage narrowed her eyes in challenge. When her dad didn't say anything, she rose the apple to her lips and took a big bite. "Mom will be waiting for you outside."
"Don't bother coming back to the castle with me," King Florian said in a low tone. His rage was blinding him. "Unless your mom can fix this mess, you can stay here."
"Fine." Sage sniffed, eyes fluttering. "I thought you could be an adult about this, but clearly I was wrong."
King Florian stared his daughter down, watching as she took another bite out of the apple, before he turned around and walked out of the building. Sage let out a sigh, shoulders slumping as she turned towards Ben. He was already heading her way.
"Are you okay?"
"N-No," Sage muttered. "I think I overworked myself. . ." Her eyes rolled to the back of her head and she fell forwards, Ben barely catching her in his arms.
"Sage? Sage, come on now. Sage?!"
The apple that was in her grasp rolled out of her hand and onto the floor. Seemingly harmless.
