Chapter 12

Slinging my purse over my shoulder, I took hesitant strides towards Rain's office. Not only had he seen me post-meltdown being dragged out by none other than Park Jimin himself the previous day, I had also failed to perform my work duties he had written me a very big fat check for. While I knew Rain would be understanding of my low emotional state – he saw it with his own eyes how bad I looked – I was pretty sure he would have a lot of questions for me, questions I would have no idea how to answer.

Overcome with nerves and determined to apologize my ass off, because let's be honest – I desperately needed the cash, I grabbed the handle on the door and barged into the room like a bull in a china shop.

Only to let out the loudest gasp of surprise, "Jesus Christ!"

My hand flew up to my face as I frantically tried to cover my eyes, incapable to recover from the sight of my boss on top of some girl he flung to the side, very roughly if I may add, as soon as he noticed me.

"Goddammit Di, have you ever heard of knocking?!" I heard Rain's angry voice which prompted me to peek through my fingers only to see him scrambling to put his shirt back on.

"I'm so sorry!" I apologized again, squeezing my eyes shut.

"What do I need to do, put a sock on the door handle?!" Rain snarled with frustration, buckling his belt.

"You may have to, if you're ever planning on getting it on at work again!" I shot back a snarky comment even though I was desperately trying to stifle my laughter. "Can I look already?"

Without waiting for a confirmation, I removed my hands from my eyes, rubbing them slightly. My vision was a fuzzy blur but even so, I caught a glimpse of the mysterious girl my dashing boss had bent over. She was a brunette, but I couldn't really see her face in all the commotion. Before I could take a better look, Rain opened the bathroom door and shoved her inside, triggering a soft squeak from the poor girl.

"Nice little office sex kitten." I praised, outstretching my arm for a fist bump Rain seemed disgusted to engage in.

"I – uh – can I help you, Di?" he looked away, trying to recover the situation, which I rolled my eyes at.

My look of intrigue crumbled when I realized he wasn't going to join me in my fraternity bro talk. However, the situation was too pleasant for me to drop it so soon.

"You are a very naughty man, Rain. Who is she? How long has this been going on for? I want all the juicy details."

He stared at me blankly before taking a seat behind his desk.

"Diane..." there was warning in the way he spoke my full name, which told me he wasn't really in the mood for talking.

"Come on, give me something!"

"How about you give me something about the fact that you disappeared in your wrinkled princess gown with a very handsome and wealthy man yesterday?" he shot back.

Damn it, he's good.

"Touché," I sank back in my chair, raising my hands next to my face, and bowed my head slightly. "I admit defeat, sir."

He looked satisfied. "Thought so. The reason you marched in here like a whole SWAT team?"

"It's about that same subject actually," I readjusted myself in my chair, giving a nervous cough. "To apologize about yesterday. I am so sorry Bossman. I had a little... incident and because of that I was in no state to work. I am terribly sorry that I caused you inconvenience. I'm okay with working overtime next month-"

He lifted his forefinger, signaling me to stop talking.

"It's already been taken care of, Di. Don't worry about it."

My eyes boggled as I gaped at him, my mouth opening and closing like a goldfish.

"Taken care of?" I asked, dumbfounded.

"Yes. Mr. Park Jimin called me this morning to explain everything. He even offered to cover my financial expenses over losing an employe for the day, but I refused him. Quinn covered all the tables by herself so there was no harm done. If that is all, you may go home and rest now. You have the day off."

A small silence fell between us as I stared at him blankly, my eyebrows raising so high they practically merged with my hairline. He must have noticed my stunned expression because he furrowed his brows in concern.

"Di?"

I looked at him in confusion, "Okay, but let me at least return the money you gave me for-"

"No need. You can keep them."

My brows pulled together as I offered him an incredulous look. "This feels skeevy, Bossman."

He poised himself properly on his chair and interlocked his fingers in his lap.

"Consider me in a generous mood today." he flashed me a beautiful smile.

A small hmphf escaping me, I stood up slowly and collected my purse from my chair, not removing my suspicious stare from Rain as if he had a gun pointed at me. I started taking small steps towards the door, expecting him to tell me to return any second now, but he did no such thing.

"Okay, but-" I spun on my heel and started speaking again.

"Di, I am trying to work." He looked from me to the door.

"Yeah, I saw." I scoffed in a rather snobby manner. He shifted his gaze away from me, dismissing me silently.

Just as I was about to march to the door, a soft shimmer from Rain's desk caught my attention. With a small frown, I strode towards it, rapidly grabbing the small sparkling object, and brought it closer to my face to further inspect it.

A heavy sigh erupted through me as my astonished gaze cast on a very pale Rain.

"Is that Quinn's earring?" I inquired suspiciously.

"Wha- what?" he said with a flustered expression.

I narrowed my eyes at him defiantly. "You heard me. This is Quinn's earring, isn't it?"

"I have no idea what you're talking about." Rain mumbled, writing something down in a leather notebook.

I felt as if my head was going to burst as the widest grin spread on my mouth. I glanced towards the bathroom door Rain's mysterious lover had disappeared behind, and then back at my boss who was now sweating more profusely than a marathon runner.

I lifted a brow, putting the earring back down. Then I gave him the dirtiest glare I could, pointing at my eyes and then back at him.

"I've got my eyes on both of you," I said in a low threatening voice as I exited his office.

"How can we even afford this place?" Quinn yelled over the roaring music as the both of us made our way through the sea of people in the club.

"Just don't think about it!" I yelled back, taking her hand and leading her through the crowd and to the bar.

I must admit, Jimin really picked the best seats for us tonight. Away from the crowd and with a nice view over the whole club. On top of that, we were close to the bathroom which was wonderful for Quinn who had the bladder of a baby hamster and needed to pee every two seconds.

"I need to pee." She announced the moment she plopped herself on the bar stool.

"Already?" I groaned, waving the bartender down. "But you went just before we left my apartment."

"Wait," she raised a finger next to her face and paused. "Okay, it was a false alarm."

Before I could reply with an eye roll, the bartender came by to take our order. When he was a safe distance away, I leaned in and put on my most serious expression.

"Quinn, are you and Rain doing the horizontal mambo?"

She puffed her cheeks, releasing a long exhale that left her wheezing for air as if she was drowning.

"What?! No! What?! No! What?!" she screeched. "No! Why would you even say that?"

"Oh my God, I cannot believe you!" I slapped her hand slightly. "You are, you really are!"

"I said no such thing!"

"I know when you're lying!" I accused. "Did you forget that?"

She seemed in no hurry to confirm. "You're imagining things."

I snorted, rather unladylike. "Quinn, are you really going to lie to me!"

She looked up from her lap, meeting my intense gaze. It was a tense couple moments as my narrowed stare zeroed in on her, waiting for her to squirm under my scrutiny.

"Okay then!" Quinn finally caved, choking out what sounded like a gasp. Her face grew redder with embarrassment.

"I knew it! I fucking knew it!" I proclaimed, pointing a shaky forefinger at her like an agitated judge in the midst of a heated courtroom.

Quinn seemed defeated. "I admit it. I succumbed to good dick."

"Dear God," I huffed, a smug smile plastered across my face. "Why didn't you tell me? I'm not upset about it, I'm just upset that you felt like you had to hide it from me."

"I have no idea!" she whined with a pout. "I have no idea Di, okay? I... I was embarrassed. He's our boss, and..." she trailed off.

"I cannot believe this," I shook my head. "Jimin was right all along!"

"Say what now?" Quinn shot back. Now it was my turn to fall under her scrutiny.

"Oops." I shielded my mouth with my hand. "I said too much."

A victorious gleam sparked in her eyes.

"That's it!" she pressed, ignoring my obvious discomfort. "That's why we're at the flashiest club in Seoul tonight and you're wearing a fucking Gucci dress! It's Park Jimin, isn't it?"

Okay, she's quick-witted.

I glanced down at my dress awkwardly. All of a sudden it felt like the fabric was on fire, notching on my skin.

I poised my finger in front of my lips and looked around as if to make sure the coast was clear, even thought I was pretty sure no one could hear us in this cramped club.

"Shh, keep your voice down!"

"You slept with him again, didn't you?" Quinn whisper-yelled. "What, are you like his sugar baby now?" she pointed at my dress.

"What, no!" I denied immediately. "I mean yes, I did sleep with him again. But then... something happened. Something's different between us now, Quinn. I don't know, it's weird."

"So he's not your sugar daddy?"

My face screwed in an unpleasant grimace. "No, he's not. Besides, that's not the point."

"So it's weird, how?"

"I don't know. Yesterday I had a panic attack again," I paused to swallow thickly, something tugging at my heart as I saw Quinn's face curl in sympathy. "He was there the whole time and after that, he comforted me. He bought chocolate for me, he got me home... he even spent the night without making a single move on me."

Quinn crossed her long tanned legs in front of her, leaning forward.

"And then what happened?"

"And then he gets me this fancy dress and makes a reservation for us in this opulent place," I gestured around. "I mean, what is this? Does he care for me now?"

"I thought he told you this was a one-time thing. What exactly is his deal?" Quinn pondered together with me.

"I know, right? I guess it's because in my dazed state, I told him it was my birthday today but I couldn't afford to throw a party. Perhaps he felt sorry for me and wanted to do something... kind of like charity." I gulped. The thought of being Jimin's charity project made me feel mildly unsettled to say the least.

"I don't know what to tell you, Di. To me, it seems like his motives are rather purely selfless. I mean if he expected something from you in exchange for this evening, he would certainly come along with us tonight, right? But he's not here. He made the reservation for you and your friend, me. He isn't forcing himself on you, he's just doing something nice from you. I can't believe I'm saying this... he almost seems like a nice guy."

The thought horrified me as much as it excited me. "But can I trust him? I'm not sure. Maybe he's trying to reel me into some false sense of security before he destroys me."

Quinn sighed. "You're never going to trust a man, are you?"

I let out a heavy groan. "I am so confused, Quinn. I don't even know if I'm ever going to see him again. What if this is just some gesture he felt like doing for me in the spur of a moment and now he'll never reach out ever again?"

"Well... do you want to see him again?"

I gulped, remembering clearly the feeling of Jimin's lips against mine.

"Yes. I think I do."

"You liked being with him?" she smiled.

"I'm pretty sure he sent me to heaven and back, like three times."

Quinn released a dreamy sigh. "That sounds so..." her face shifted into confusion and surprise as her gaze drifted somewhere over my shoulder. "Um, Di, I don't know how to tell you this, but-"

"What?" I frowned slightly just when I felt a light tap on my shoulder.

I turned around, gasping softly as I locked eyes with someone I definitely didn't expect to see there.

Jimin's POV

"Explain to me again why the fuck we drove over here through the shittiest traffic jam ever when we could go to a different club right around the corner?" Jungkook whined, rubbing the back of his neck.

"Shut it." I murmured, slipping through the sea of people as we made our way to our usual booth in the VIP lounge. My eyes kept scanning our surroundings for Diane.

Diane. I scoffed as her name replayed in my mind. And what a beautiful name it was. The most beautiful I had ever heard. Diane, I repeated it mentally again as my mind savored it. It was like my taste buds were having multiple orgasms, that's how sweet her name tasted in my mouth.

Okay, I admit it. It was never my intention to be here tonight. That's not what I did what I did for her. As a matter of fact, I genuinely wanted her to have a good time with her friend at her birthday. It was never my intention to spoil her girls' night out with my male presence or to spy on her and stalk her. No. She seems like a good kid. She deserves to be happy on her birthday.

So why am I here again? Oh, right. Because I just couldn't stop thinking about her.

"Is this about this mysterious girl you've been fucking lately?" Jungkook asked lazily.

"What? No," I denied quickly, taking a seat.

"Man, I can't recognize you," he sighed. "Okay, what are working with?"

"Tall, blonde, black dress." I replied.

He frowned. "How do you know the color of her dress, you creep? Are you stalking her?"

I smacked the back of his head. "No, I know because I bought it for her, you idiot."

"Oh, are you buying clothes for her now?" he grinned, the fucking brat. "What, are you her sugar daddy?"

"Shut your damn mouth!" I glared at him. Jungkook stifled a laugh before his eyes grew wider and he pointed at something in the distance.

"I hate to disappoint you man, but it seems like she already has company."

My eyes trailed the direction he was pointing at. There she is. There is Diane with her beautiful long blond hair and the dress I got her that hugged her curves in all the right places. She's with her best friend, that Quinn girl. But wait, there's some dude there talking to her.

Wait.

Isn't that...

It's the fucking schmuck she brought to that party last week. What the fuck is he doing here?
